History

Past and betrayal

Yao Chen originated from the Medicine Clan, an ancient clan whose members widely pursued alchemy. He became known as the Medicine Venerable and accepted Han Feng as a disciple, only to be betrayed by him and reduced to a soul state. The betrayal left him obsessed with judging prospective disciples' character and determined to personally kill Han Feng after reviving. 68 82 83 92

Encounter with Xiao Yan

While concealed inside Xiao Yan's inherited ring, Medicine Elder absorbed Xiao Yan's Dou Qi for more than three years. This contributed to Xiao Yan's loss of strength and the annulment of his engagement. When he finally emerged and offered assistance, Xiao Yan cursed him; Medicine Elder answered with a slap. 4 5

Xiao Yan eventually accepted his aid after again falling to Three-Stage Dou Qi. Medicine Elder prepared Foundation-Building Spiritual Liquid, Qi Gathering Powder, and other resources to restore Xiao Yan's cultivation, then guided him toward alchemy and the Flame Mantra. 8 9 10 15

Exposure at Canaan Academy

When Xiao Yan's newly condensed Dou Qi Whirl began dissipating, Qian and Bai Elders detected the abnormality and forcibly drew Medicine Elder's ring away. Medicine Elder emerged as an illusory figure, claiming that he had only been testing Xiao Yan's temperament. Su Qian and the elders identified him as the supposedly dead Medicine Venerable, Yao Chen. 68 82

Lin Shuiyao refused to overlook the harm done to her son. She required Medicine Elder to restore Xiao Lin's damaged strength before permitting Xiao Yan to become his disciple. Resurrection and revenge

Qian and Bai Elders determined that Medicine Elder's revival required three Heavenly Flames, a Dou Zong's remains, seventh-tier magical-beast essence blood, and an eighth-grade pill. To protect the Bone Chilling Spirit Flame and strengthen Xiao Yan, Medicine Elder agreed to transfer the flame to him. 83

After Han Feng was defeated, Medicine Elder took his former disciple's soul and became noticeably stronger. However, during a later confrontation with Soul Hall, Wu Protector captured Medicine Elder's soul after he faced the protector without the Bone Chilling Spirit Flame. 98
