Medusa ruled the Snake-People Tribe while seeking the Green Lotus Core Flame as the catalyst for an evolution that could elevate both her bloodline and strength. She had the flame removed from the magma world before Xiao Yan could claim it, then prepared to use it within the tribe's temple. 31 32

The Snake-People Tribe's secret art allowed her to transform into a Purple Nether Flame Snake by drawing on a sealed serpentine magical-beast soul. With Xiao Yan's medicinal preparations—Earthfire Lotus Seeds, Ice Spirit Cold Spring, and a specialized pill—she entered the Green Lotus Core Flame and endured its tempering. The evolution produced a tiny Seven-Colored Heaven-Swallowing Python and left her original body apparently dead. 130 161

Her new form retained Medusa's consciousness but also housed the evolved Heaven-Swallowing Python's soul. This dual-soul symbiosis caused the two souls to contend for control of one body, prompting Medusa to seek Xiao Yan's help and a Soul Melting Pill. 49 50 162
