Background / History

Jing Yuan was once a Cloud Knight General and counted himself among the Cloud-Piercer Five alongside Dragon Lord Dan Feng, Sword Master Jingliu, Hundred Arts Ying Xing, and Sky Skill Bai Heng. He describes himself as having joined their ranks “by chance,” regarding his own strengths as strategy rather than martial prowess. 47

In his youth, he befriended a boxer from a remote world who sought aid for his homeland. Jing Yuan reported the crisis to General Tengxiao but was unable to save his friend’s world. He also failed to prevent his master Jingliu from becoming Mara-struck—losses that continue to weigh on him. 47

Bai Heng’s death during the Shuhu calamity shattered the Cloud-Piercer Five. Her sacrifice saved Dan Feng and contributed to the subsequent collapse of the group: Jingliu became Mara-struck, Ying Xing lost his judgment, and Dan Feng’s guilt led toward the Imbibitor Lunae Incident. 51

For seven hundred years, Jing Yuan has governed the Luofu as the General of the Divine March. Despite repeated attacks and political pressure, he has retained his position among the Seven Arbiter-Generals and earned a reputation for exceptional intellect, stable leadership, and meticulous planning. 44

Jing Yuan is composed, strategic, and politically astute. He handles sensitive negotiations with calculated warmth, drawing allies closer while withholding unnecessary information. Even Yukong considers his schemes far beyond her own. 44

His calm demeanor conceals a strong sense of responsibility for the Luofu. He refuses to abdicate while he considers Fu Xuan insufficiently mature for succession, and he wishes for her to eventually rebuild a prosperous Luofu. He is willing to bear personal consequences, including confinement under the Ten Lords Bureau, if necessary. 47

Luofu Stellaron Crisis

Jing Yuan meets Shirou’s group as the Luofu faces the Stellaron threat and evidence of a Lord of Annihilation’s infiltration. He requests their aid as a surprise force, balancing the need for outside support against his own duties managing the Luofu. 44

He privately discusses the Luofu’s depleted state, the Medicine Master’s Legacy, Buli Ren activity, the Lord of Annihilation, and the return of Jingliu. He also begins suffering from Mara-struck symptoms. 45

Nen Research and Mara-struck Treatment

After Shirou develops a Nen-based method intended to reduce the memory burden associated with Mara-struck, Jing Yuan and Fu Xuan report it to the Marshal. Fu Xuan’s successful development of Nen suggests that the method could postpone severe symptoms by one hundred to three hundred years. 46

The Xianzhou Alliance subsequently dispatches expert teams to research and verify the technique’s effectiveness. 50

Imbibitor Lunae Clan Conspiracy

Jing Yuan learns that the Imbibitor Lunae clan allegedly intends to arrange his death, reincarnate him as an Imbibitor Lunae dragon through the Dragon Transformation Profound Method, and claim his merits for their faction. He responds with anger at being treated as a tool whose present and future lives have both been planned by others. 53

Buli Ren and Youqiuyou Operations

Jing Yuan commissions Shirou to investigate and subjugate Buli Ren infiltrators, then advises him amid escalating espionage and unrest on the Luofu. 50 55

He collaborates with Bailu on a plan using Hulei’s venom and a decoy howl to make Buli Ren gather and turn against one another. 57

As the conflict escalates, Jing Yuan coordinates with Welt to lure out hostile leaders and directs the wider battlefield response. 72
