Background

Zerg emerged from a “dark, dark place” that collapsed shortly after he escaped. His only early companions were three Drones hatched from eggs he had brought with him, and he retains little memory of his birthplace. He initially survived in a ruined underwater city whose barrier limited food to whatever could be scavenged from the abandoned structures. 1 7 11

The Dimensional Chat Group identified him as its leader and enabled his first contact with Kiana Kaslana. Hungry and unfamiliar with even basic social concepts, he accepted Kiana’s help and began traveling between worlds through the group’s portals. 1 3 7

Appearance

Zerg normally appears as a tiny humanoid child with an innocent expression and a body that belies his immense strength. His true form is a massive insect-like Swarm Overlord surrounded by lesser bugs. 5 125

Personality

Zerg is driven foremost by hunger, resource gathering, and the Swarm’s growth. He readily identifies edible matter, Biomass, energy sources, and unusual organisms as potential resources, but does not usually act with personal malice. Those who feed him are quickly considered friends, and he believes the Swarm should protect its friends while devouring its enemies. 3 35 43 49

Having been born recently and received little education, Zerg does not understand modern civilization, money, social etiquette, or many adult implications. He is nevertheless eager to learn: he analyzes unfamiliar powers, machinery, organisms, and energy sources, often attempting to adapt their principles for the Swarm. 3 93 176 236

Despite his childlike behavior, he makes independent strategic decisions, such as creating Hives, securing biological specimens, setting spatial beacons, and developing new Swarm strains. 32 198 203 258
