Xuan Zhe wasn't blind.
Earlier, the room had been dimly lit, and Wen Shuang was much smaller than him. Hidden beneath the suit jacket, he had been completely covered. Xuan Zhe had also been preoccupied, so he hadn't noticed at first. But when he reached for the jacket, the back of his hand caught a trace of warm breath. In that instant, every alarm in Xuan Zhe's body went off.
Someone stood pressed against the wall. To make his concealment successful, Wen Shuang had even arranged himself as neatly as the suit jacket, looking inexplicably bizarre and ridiculous.
The two of them stared wide-eyed at each other. Wen Shuang even stopped breathing.
This also gave him a clear look at Xuan Zhe's face. The original novel's descriptions had been so exaggerated that whenever Xuan Zhe appeared, Wen Shuang imagined some nouveau riche guy wearing a huge gold chain. But that was not the case. Xuan Zhe was around six foot three, with a well-proportioned, lean frame. His taut muscle lines were packed with explosive power. Even someone like Wen Shuang, who ordinarily had no interest in physiques, thought he looked exceptionally good. His face was very youthful, with sharp brows and bright eyes, radiating heroic spirit. Though he stood in complete silence, he somehow made one glimpse a surging river of stars beneath a dark night sky.
Suddenly, Xuan Zhe narrowed his eyes.
It seemed like a signal. Wen Shuang's heart immediately raced, his blood rushing straight to his head! Thinking quickly in his panic, he trembled as he forced out an awkward yet polite smile. "If I said I came to serve as your human clothes hanger, free of charge, would you believe me?"
Xuan Zhe finally moved. He casually tossed the suit jacket onto the bed, covered his lower body with the bathrobe, and tied it at his waist.
Wen Shuang thought he was about to hit him. He was so frightened his features nearly shifted out of place, and he waved his hands frantically. "No, no, no! I'm very soft. If you punch me, I'll cry for ages! Don't you hate seeing people cry the most?"
That was exactly how it had been described in the original novel! Xuan Zhe could lose his appetite for ages after seeing someone cry.
Xuan Zhe stared at him upon hearing that, his voice low and sexy. "Do you think you're funny?"
Wen Shuang didn't even dare open his eyes.
Honestly, seeing a living person suddenly appear in his room was rather creepy. But over the past few years, quite a few people had sent others to his bed in an attempt to curry favor with him. Xuan Zhe only assumed someone had fearlessly tried the same old trick again. Yet the more he looked, the more something felt off. Those beauties from before, male or female, had all worn seductive expressions. Unlike the person before him, whose expression could only be described as "utterly falling apart."
"How did you get in?" Xuan Zhe asked.
Seeing that Xuan Zhe had no intention of hitting him, Wen Shuang grew bolder. He pulled a black card from his pocket, bearing a simple chibi avatar. Xuan Zhe recognized it at once and gritted his teeth. "Jiang Suqing!"
Jiang Suqing was Xuan Zhe's friend. According to the original novel, Wen Shuang had stolen this card from Jiang Suqing while he was drunk.
But Wen Shuang hadn't said that he stole it. So, from Xuan Zhe's perspective, Jiang Suqing must have given it to him. That guy sure had some nerve. Just because Xuan Zhe was nearly twenty-eight and showed no sign of wanting to date, he thought he could randomly stuff people into his life?
Thinking this, Xuan Zhe shot Wen Shuang another disdainful glance. If he was going to send someone over, why send one like this?
When Wen Shuang saw Xuan Zhe turn to put on his shirt, he immediately edged along the wall toward the door. For the second time, he was just one step away from the doorknob when Xuan Zhe coldly said, "Did I say you could leave?"
Wen Shuang immediately stood properly and obediently, no longer making a sound.
After a rustling noise, Wen Shuang didn't dare look around. Before long, a pair of straight legs entered his field of vision, wrapped in black trousers. As expected of the male lead from the novel—good-looking, Wen Shuang silently judged.
Xuan Zhe studied the person before him. He only came up to Xuan Zhe's shoulder, with black hair and black eyes. Most eye-catching of all was the red mole on his right ear, utterly at odds with his naturally blank and cute appearance. Yet Xuan Zhe had a feeling that if this person smiled, he would bring people a surprise.
As Xuan Zhe approached, Wen Shuang shrank back slightly, like a fluffy little quail.
He must have been frightened badly too, Xuan Zhe thought. Jiang Suqing was a well-known playboy. His heart was not bad, but his family had spoiled him so much that he acted without considering the consequences. He had probably thought Xuan Zhe would like this type and forcibly dragged someone over.
Jiang Suqing was unreasonable, but Xuan Zhe was not. He pulled a bank card from his wallet and was about to hand it to Wen Shuang when the young man's body suddenly stiffened. Then he began trembling uncontrollably. The next second, he tilted his head and collapsed. A shoe cabinet stood beside him, and crashing into it would be no small matter. Seeing that he didn't seem to be pretending, Xuan Zhe quickly caught him.
Wen Shuang leaned against Xuan Zhe's chest, his pearly teeth biting his lower lip, his face pale as paper. Even so, he did not make a sound. Only the red mole on his ear seemed dazzlingly vivid.
Wen Shuang's head felt as though it were splitting apart. He was receiving the original owner's memories.
In this world, Wen Shuang had been a poor boy from a remote mountain village. The first time he saw the prosperity outside, he had been speechless for a long while. Once the words "terrified of poverty" had been carved into one's bones, falling into desire was only one step away.
Originally, getting into university had meant a way out for Wen Shuang. Not only could he bring honor to his family, but he could also carve out a world of his own. But after entering campus and seeing those rich second-generation heirs who spent money like water, seeing how easily they rode roughshod over others, he realized how naive his thinking had been. Sometimes, the distance between people was determined from birth. Even if he exhausted his entire life, it would be difficult to make up for it. If he did not climb upward, he would be met with contempt and trampled underfoot—and he did not want to live like that for even a moment longer!
So Wen Shuang had worked himself to the bone to worm his way into the circle of rich heirs, becoming a dog at their side. The first time he used his pretty face to hook a gullible fool, he tasted the benefits and became impossible to stop. He enjoyed a life without worrying about money. A grand feast of high-stakes gambling reached out to him, and he was certain he would be the winner.
In the hospital, Wen Shuang slowly opened his eyes. His soul had completely absorbed the original owner's past, but he truly could not agree with the way that person had lived.
There were countless joys in life. There was no need to mold oneself into a monster for the sake of some cold, lifeless things. The original owner had plotted every step carefully, but what had been the result?
In the novel, he failed to seduce Xuan Zhe and was stripped naked and thrown out. Then he ran into an old enemy he had once offended, who took photos of him and spread them throughout their circle. His reputation became utterly rotten, and his life was worse than death.
Why bother? Wen Shuang sighed.
Not long after, a nurse came in, removed Wen Shuang's IV needle, and told him there was nothing wrong with his body. He only needed to go home and rest well. His medical bills had already been paid too.
He hadn't expected Xuan Zhe to actually be pretty nice.
