Background and History
Kakashi is Sakumo Hatake’s younger son. As a child, he shields his frail older brother Muzan from people who mock him and promises to protect him at the Ninja Academy. He is also embarrassed by Muzan’s behavior at school, and their relationship develops a competitive edge as Muzan’s strength emerges 1 2 5.
Sakumo trains both brothers in ninjutsu and the Hatake Sword Technique. Kakashi also spars regularly with Might Guy, improving his taijutsu. Although Muzan defeats him in their first serious spar, Kakashi resolves to surpass his brother’s Blood Demon Art through swordsmanship 6 7.
During the Third Ninja War, Kakashi loses Obito and Rin and is sent to recover after a mission near Kannabi Bridge. He later visits their graves with Muzan, visibly changed by their deaths 97 98 115. When Muzan defects from Konoha, Kakashi attempts to capture him but is defeated. His loyalty is subsequently investigated because of their family connection; once cleared, he returns to missions 157 170.
