What did traditional mages hate most in an opponent?

Warriors with high resistance to magical attacks, or even immunity to them, along with high attack and defense.
With the frail, squishy bodies of traditional mages, once a warrior like that got close, one punch would leave them owing the other guy a whole health bar.
Sorcerers were much the same. Once they encountered an enemy who ignored technique-based attacks, eighty percent of their methods became useless. The advantage sorcerers had over traditional mages was that they could reinforce their bodies with cursed energy, giving them warrior-like toughness and hand-to-hand combat ability. They could trade punches with their opponents.
And the black guy blocking Lin Yi's escape from the barrier was one of Suguru Geto's top subordinates: Miguel O'Dwyer, a foreign sorcerer from Africa.
As mentioned before, sorcerers and Cursed Spirits existed in countries and regions beyond Japan as well. However, because Japan was the massive vortex of cursed energy in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, the number of sorcerers and Cursed Spirits born elsewhere was far lower than in Japan.
The black guy, Miguel O'Dwyer, was a sorcerer from Africa. The entire Africa Region might have only seven or eight sorcerers in total—a pitifully small proportion.
This black guy's technique was called Prayer Song, a peculiar technique. Once activated, a particular rhythm would sound around Miguel. As long as his movements matched that rhythm, combined with his enormous reserves of cursed energy, his physical abilities would be greatly enhanced. He would become tough as nails and slippery as an eel.
But that was not what Lin Yi needed to worry about. His attention was on the black whip wrapped around Miguel's arm.
This thing was called the Black Rope, a Special-Grade Cursed Tool.
A Cursed Tool was a tool constructed from cursed energy, or created by combining cursed energy with physical materials, that possessed a certain special effect.
The shield Lin Yi had just manifested could also be called a Cursed Tool, though it was a one-use item.
The only effect of the Special-Grade Cursed Tool called Black Rope in Miguel's hand was that it could counter all jujutsu, canceling the technique effects attached to them and rendering them ineffective.
The price was that every time the Special-Grade Cursed Tool Black Rope canceled a technique effect, it consumed part of the rope's length.
If Miguel had been alone, Lin Yi would not have feared him even with the Black Rope, a Special-Grade Cursed Tool capable of canceling technique effects.
In this sorcerer form, Lin Yi had no shortage of cursed energy. He could casually throw out skill after skill, and simply wear down the Black Rope in Miguel's hand until it was gone.
But Suguru Geto was eyeing him from the side now. Lin Yi had no time to waste trading techniques with this black guy.
"Hey, bro, calm down. We mean no harm. At least hear Suguru out."
"And if I don't, are you planning to tie me up with that rope and drag me back to your headquarters? Nice. Didn't expect you, black guy, to take up your ancestors' trade."
Lin Yi opened with a vicious barb that stabbed straight into the black guy's heart. The black guy's face immediately darkened—though it had been dark to begin with.
"Mr. Ichiro, don't say such hurtful things. I truly came to you in good faith."
Lin Yi did not answer. He merely watched Suguru Geto and the black guy form a pincer attack around him, then withdrew the cursed energy spilling from his body.
This made Suguru Geto think Lin Yi had calmed down. Just as he was about to step forward and continue talking with him, Suguru Geto's narrow eyes widened as he stared at Lin Yi in confusion and disbelief.
Because in Suguru Geto's perception, the immense cursed energy that had surrounded Lin Yi was rapidly gathering toward his lower abdomen before gradually disappearing.
This transformation of cursed energy from existence to nonexistence was something a formally trained sorcerer like Suguru Geto could not understand.
A sorcerer's Innate Cursed Technique was inborn, engraved in a brain structure different from that of ordinary people. The source of cursed energy, however, was the same as for ordinary people: the dantian in the abdomen.
Sorcerers were powerful because they could use their inborn techniques to guide the flow of cursed energy within their bodies and launch attacks. Ordinary people, lacking techniques, could not control the cursed energy in their bodies, causing it to constantly leak from every part of them.
Whether sorcerer or ordinary person, everyone possessed cursed energy. But one kind of person was an exception.
From the moment they were born, they had passively made a deal with the world. They emptied themselves of all the cursed energy they had been born with and returned it to the world, receiving in exchange a body of flesh with extraordinary physical abilities and immense resistance to jujutsu attacks.
Such people possessed physical abilities far beyond those of a Grade 1 Sorcerer, nearing the level of a Special-Grade Sorcerer reinforced by cursed energy. At the same time, their heightened five senses and sixth sense allowed them to choose between seeing Cursed Spirits with their naked eyes or using their sixth sense to observe the true flow of the world without relying on sight.
With the aid of a physical blade made from cursed energy, they could fight head-on, sneak in, ambush, and assassinate.
To sorcerers, these people were practically sorcerer-killers tailor-made for them by heaven.
Sorcerers did not merely observe things with their eyes. They also used cursed energy to sense areas beyond their vision. Any living being, human or animal, possessed cursed energy—but because these people were born without it, they simply did not exist within a sorcerer's cursed-energy perception.
Combined with the incredible physical abilities heaven had bestowed upon them, once a sorcerer let their guard down and allowed one of them into attack range, death was inevitable.
The Jujutsu Society had a professional name for such people: Heavenly Tyrants!
In Suguru Geto's memories, he had encountered only one Heavenly Tyrant in the first half of his life. That person had nearly beaten his Dao heart to pieces, leaving him unable to rise again.
But now he was seeing another Heavenly Tyrant here?! Just moments ago, Lin Yi had clearly been a sorcerer with the Construction Technique! That surging cursed energy had not been some illusion.
"Oi, Geto, I've never seen anything like this before."
The black guy, Miguel, was starting to panic. He knew the stories of Heavenly Tyrants too. In that case, the Special-Grade Cursed Tool he carried would be completely useless, while his own technique was for physical enhancement. Trading fists with a Heavenly Tyrant born with a body specialized for combat? He wanted no part of that.
"Don't be so tense, you two. This is merely the effect of my technique. My cursed energy is still here; it's simply taking another form. I have no interest in fighting either of you. I just want to get as far away from you as possible."
Lin Yi noticed Suguru Geto's loss of composure. After all, the only time in his life he had been beaten senseless by an ordinary person with absolutely no cursed energy—a person he called a monkey—had been a terrible experience. Seeing Lin Yi in a state without cursed energy naturally stirred up those unpleasant memories.
While Suguru Geto and Miguel were confused by the technique effect Lin Yi had mentioned, Lin Yi raised his right hand and clenched it into a fist. Just as Suguru Geto and Miguel thought he was about to attack, Lin Yi swept his left hand across his abdomen and crossed it with his right.
He roared, "Henshin!"
