[December 24th. Afternoon. Outside Jujutsu High's barrier.]
Maki stood on the hillside, gripping her longsword tightly as she stared fiercely at the silent streets in the distance.
"Makoto, are you sure you want to leave me here?" Her voice was somewhat impatient through the earpiece. "Jujutsu High needs combat power more on the inside, doesn't it? Since Geto's target is Yuta, I should be guarding Yuta!"
"Maki-chan~ Jujutsu High doesn't need 'upright' combat power inside. It only needs 'heart' combat power."
Mizuki Makoto slumped on a bench at the training grounds, fiddling with a phone that did not even have a signal. "Your assignment is more important than fighting. Remember, the moment you see a Curtain rise over Jujutsu High, immediately signal Gojo-sensei—my little life is in your hands."
I knew Suguru Geto was a meticulous madman. Since he dared strike on this day, he must have arranged a piece in Shinjuku capable of holding Gojo Satoru back—Miguel, the Mamba.
He was a ruthless opponent who could use the specially made cursed tool, Black Rope, to hold Gojo Satoru off for a full twenty minutes, when Gojo could not unleash his full firepower in a bustling city area—such as Unlimited Void, or large-scale Blue, Red, and Purple.
And inside Jujutsu High, I was about to have a duel with Miguel called "a race against time." We would see whether our "Semi-Grade 1 squad" could hold Suguru Geto back longer, or whether Miguel could hold Gojo Satoru back longer.
Mizuki Makoto took a deep breath. Miguel, why did you have to get involved in the mess of DK5 and Suguru Geto, those star-crossed lovebirds? Now you were taking Gojo Satoru's elbows in Shinjuku, while I had to use my skull to block Suguru Geto's Playful Cloud at Jujutsu High. What a pair of smiling tigers, two horned sharks.
Although I had freeloaded Gojo-sensei's power through [Limitless], I was not that man with the Six Eyes cheat. Keep Limitless constantly active? Automatically regulate output? Give me a break. If I tried an operation of that caliber, my brain would blow up like an overloaded microwave.
At present, my limit was this: within one hour, I could use "three" absolute Limitless defenses, each lasting three seconds.
Three seconds was enough to die a hundred times in a Special-Grade Sorcerer's eyes.
As for my total cursed energy, it was probably enough for three nerfed versions of Blue or Red.
Three defenses, three attacks.
With just those, I had to last twenty minutes against Suguru Geto, a Special-Grade curse user with several thousand cursed spirits who casually threw around Maximum Technique...
"This isn't a race at all. This is playing Fast and Furious with Meng Po on Yellow Springs Road..."
Mizuki Makoto wiped the cold sweat from his palm and gulped down the last mouthful of cola, ice shards and all. Since his combat strength had been utterly crushed in every dimension, he could only choose another fighting style, one more fitting for a "weakling"—
Use the intelligence gap between humans and gorillas to hurl the boomerang right into his face!
—Bzz!
An incredibly oppressive vibration spread through the air. Mizuki Makoto abruptly looked up and saw the black Curtain rapidly spreading like ink above Jujutsu High, devouring the last of the sunlight.
It worked. Maki's signal should have already been sent.
"So you've come, our 'victim of a broken home,' 'abandoned husband of Jujutsu High,' 'peerless genius of shocking wisdom.'"
Mizuki Makoto rose to his feet and stretched his somewhat stiff neck. He shoved his still-trembling hands into his pockets, a faintly relieved smile curling across his face.
The training ground's gate silently opened.
Suguru Geto entered in that loose cassock, his long hair half-tied. His narrow eyes carried a compassion that seemed detached from worldly affairs, as well as an utter disgust for "non-sorcerers" hidden behind that godlike facade. His gaze swept over the empty training grounds before finally settling on Mizuki Makoto.
"Mizuki Makoto... Satoru actually left a counterfeit like you behind to guard the gate? It seems Jujutsu High really has no one left."
"Mr. Geto."
Mizuki Makoto walked toward him step by step, facing pressure strong enough to scare a Grade 2 Sorcerer senseless. There was no fear in him, only malice that wanted to thoroughly throw the situation into chaos.
"Before you make your move, professional habit compels me to conduct a friendly peer review of your so-called 'great cause.'"
Suguru Geto stopped walking and looked at the boy before him with interest, as though he were watching a monkey trying to wag its tail at him.
"Oh? What do you want to say?"
"I want to say that your plan to 'kill every non-sorcerer and create a world containing only sorcerers'... is simply the century's most shockingly brilliant idea."
He spoke rapidly, every word landing precisely upon Suguru Geto's hollow pride:
"How many jujutsu sorcerers are there in the entire world? A thousand? Two thousand? Ten thousand? And you should know better than anyone that being a sorcerer cannot be stably inherited through bloodlines! Two sorcerers can have a child and still produce an ordinary person without cursed energy! With such a pitiful population base, if you kill all ordinary people, are you planning to play at natural extinction?"
"Gojo-sensei often tells us one thing—'Read more books.'"
Mizuki Makoto stopped, deliberately sighed, and looked utterly sincere. "I think he actually wanted to say that to you, his 'best friend.' After all, what you need most right now is not a Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, but some basic mathematics and biology."
He snorted and spread his hands.
"Just imagine it, Lord Suguru Geto. In your wonderful 'sorcerers-only' world, a minor epidemic arrives—one harmless to non-sorcerers. Because there is no sufficient research base to develop medicine, the entire world is left with only a few Special-Grade Sorcerers who can use Reverse Cursed Technique. Oh, wait, can you use Reverse Cursed Technique? Apparently not. So when the time comes, are you going to tell our dear Ms. Shoko Ieiri, 'Shoko-chan, suffer a little more. I'll bear the infamy'?"
Suguru Geto's smile gradually froze on his face. The air around him began to distort, and several low-grade cursed spirits emerged from the shadows, proof of his emotional turmoil.
"So, Mr. Suguru Geto, to come up with such an 'excellent' and utterly unworkable plan, your intelligence is clearly sufficient for you to wrestle chimpanzees on the African savanna, become the king of their tribe, and lead them to evolve into apes! Instead of standing here and trying to challenge the responsibility of 'the strongest' with several thousand trash cursed spirits."
[Current Time: 00:13. Objective: Hold on for another 19 minutes and 47 seconds.]
The instant his words fell, Mizuki Makoto slipped a hand into his jacket with perfect nonchalance.
—"Whoosh!"
Something sliced through the air, flying straight toward Suguru Geto. Almost instinctively, Suguru Geto reached out and caught it.
It was a golden-yellow, perfectly ripe banana. Firmly taped to it was the crystallization of Mizuki Makoto's life's work—that incredibly realistic, almost Buddhist Gorilla Cult Leader's Great Cause Illustration!
The compassionate great gorilla in the picture wore the same cassock. Together with the banana taped onto it, it silently delivered the ultimate dual certification of "intelligence and species" to this Special-Grade curse user.
Suguru Geto stared fixedly at the "Gorilla Cult Leader Certification Set" in his hand. The air in the entire training ground completely froze at that moment. It was not anger, but a total mental crash caused by an excessively extreme shock.
Suguru Geto slowly lowered his head, his bangs obscuring his expression. When he lifted his head again, the compassion in his eyes had vanished completely, leaving only an icy, absolute killing intent.
"Mizuki Makoto... congratulations. You have successfully changed my mind."
He raised a hand, and a massive Special-Grade cursed spirit covered in fangs let out a thunderous roar from the shadows behind him.
"I'm not going to feed you to cursed spirits anymore. I'll personally tear your mouth off and see what filthy thing is inside it."
"Come on, Mr. Gorilla Cult Leader."
Mizuki Makoto's lips curved upward.
