Sunlight poured over the walls of Darry Castle, shining on both House Darry's plowman banner and Jon's White Wolf Banner.
A little boy, both reserved and excited, led a black-haired, gray-eyed youth through his family's castle.
Several times, he wanted to take Jon's hand, only to quickly pull his own back just before doing so.
Ever since Jon had rescued Darry Castle from The Mountain's men, Lyman's admiration for Jon had risen to another level. He had originally thought Robb, who had defeated the Kingslayer, was the strongest.
After all, he had not seen Robb's strength with his own eyes, nor had he experienced it firsthand.
But he had personally watched Jon defeat The Mountain from the battlements through a telescope. The two were completely different.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, Lyman said to Jon, "Jon, let me take you somewhere. There are lots of interesting portraits there."
"Portraits? Whose portraits?"
"You'll know when you come with me."
Putting on an air of mystery, Lyman led Jon to a sunlit corridor.
"Look!" Lyman pointed at the portraits and said, "These are all portraits of Targaryen kings! Our family has preserved them all this time."
Jon's heart skipped a beat. Was this really something he was allowed to see?
Just as he was about to find an excuse to leave with Lyman and pretend he had seen nothing, a flustered figure entered his sight.
Monde Rivers.
When Monde saw Jon already standing in the corridor with Lyman, most of the color drained from his face.
Stag, eagle, wolf, fish—the four had been the main forces behind the overthrow of the Targaryens! As "half a Stark," wasn't showing Jon this simply asking for trouble?
Jon looked at the panicked Monde and understood what he was worried about.
