History

Yao Wangu upheld the Yao Clan’s division between direct-line and collateral descendants. During an earlier Medicine Assembly, he switched the collateral-branch alchemist Yao Chen’s ingredients to make his refinement fail, then falsely accused him and secured his expulsion. Grand Elder Yao Wanhuo knew of the affair but did not intervene 4 20.

Years later, Wangu opened the annual Medicine Assembly and initially named the direct-line disciples Yao Ling and Yao Xingji as its likely champions. When collateral-branch contestant Yao Xuan produced a better pill than Xingji, Wanhuo pressed Wangu to judge impartially. Wangu declared Xuan the champion, but after Wanhuo departed, accused Xuan of improperly obtaining a direct-line pill formula and ingredients, revoked his title, and expelled him from the clan 4 7 8.

After Yao Xuan crippled the direct-line disciple Yao Xingtong, Wangu declined Yao Ye’s demand for immediate revenge because the Ancient Clan had intervened on Xuan’s behalf. Later, learning that Xuan controlled six Heavenly Flames, he sought to locate both Xuan and Yao Chen. Wanhuo instead instructed him to invite the two former clan members back 143 177 189.

Wangu arrived at Starfall Pavilion with Yao Ling, Yao Tian, and Yao Xingji. He made readmission conditional on Yao Chen surrendering the Bone Chilling Flame and Yao Xuan surrendering his eight Heavenly Flames. The demand led to a battle: Xuan’s Fire Lotus wounded Wangu, but Wangu’s Four-Star Dou Saint strength left Xuan facing a lethal counterattack. Dan Yuanzi’s remnant soul then possessed and empowered Xuan, who killed Wangu after Wangu seized Yao Ling as a hostage 190 192 193 194.

Wangu’s damaged soul survived the destruction of his body. Yao Xuan captured it in the Human Emperor Banner, erased its independent consciousness, and refined it together with Wangu’s body into an obedient Dou Saint puppet 196 197.

Appearance

• At the Medicine Assembly, Wangu appears as an elderly man wearing a black robe trimmed with gold 4.
• His refined puppet retains his face, but has hollow eyes and no living emotion 197.

Saint-level cultivation

• As a Four-Star Dou Saint, Wangu can exert pressure that restrains Yao Xuan, then an Eight-Star Battle Venerable, and burdens Yao Chen, a One-Star Dou Saint 191.
• He condenses spatial power into an energy sphere that dissolves Xuan’s lightning-fire attack 191.

Soul power

• His Late Heavenly Realm perception pierces the concealment around Yao Xuan’s aura and detects the eight Heavenly Flames within him 190.
• Dan Yuanzi’s soul-suppressing attack severely damages his soul and disrupts his Saint power 194.
