Background

Yao Xuan is a transmigrator reborn into a collateral branch of the Yao Clan in the Medicine Realm. Though his branch possessed negligible Dou Emperor Bloodline and lacked the direct line’s resources, he was born with a perfect fire-and-wood battle-qi ratio and superior soul power, giving him exceptional potential as an alchemist 1.

He was raised to serve as Yao Ling’s bodyguard, but the two became childhood companions. Yao Ling repeatedly shared direct-line pills with him and treated his work with complete trust despite the clan’s prejudice against collateral descendants 1.

Yao Xuan entered the Medicine Assembly intending to alter his standing within the clan. With Yao Ling’s secretly supplied Myriad Veins Origin-Bearing Pill formula and ingredients, he defeated direct-line contender Yao Xingji and became the first collateral-branch champion in the assembly’s history 3 7 8.

Yao Wangu nevertheless accused him of stealing the direct-line formula. Refusing to falsely confess, Yao Xuan was stripped of Yao Clan membership, expelled from the Medicine Realm, and left to survive in the Shennong Mountain Range 8 9.

Old Man Shennong discovered Yao Xuan after his exile, tested his ability, and accepted him for one year of instruction. Under Shennong’s teachings, Yao Xuan abandoned rigid Yao Clan methods, developed a more intuitive approach to alchemy, and gained the Origin-Returning Spirit Art, rare formulas, and a map to the Yellow Mysterious Flame 11 12 13.

Yao Xuan is ambitious but measured. His determination to rise beyond collateral-branch status drives him to enter the Medicine Assembly, accept Shennong’s demanding training, and repeatedly pursue dangerous Heavenly Flames rather than rely on temporary shortcuts such as the Life Devouring Pill 3 13 30.

He values those who treat him sincerely. He remains protective of Yao Ling even when her assistance risks clan punishment, searches across the Northwest Continent for Yao Lao, and treats Xiao Yan as a brother rather than a subordinate 3 20 24.

His compassion is practical rather than indiscriminate. He saves Little Doctor Fairy during her poison-body eruption, purchases Qing Lin out of danger, and assists remnant souls such as Heavenly Flame Venerable and Dan Yuanzi; however, he also eradicates the Mo Clan to prevent surviving enemies from retaliating 35 51 63 124.
