Xu Yanche looked at Director Hao with sparkling eyes. "Director, how much is my salary?"
Director Hao chuckled. "It depends on what you accomplish each month. It ranges from three thousand to eight thousand. If you make any major contributions, there'll be additional rewards."
Xu Yanche was so happy he practically wanted to fly. "Then can I start working now?"
That left Director Hao speechless.
It was his first time seeing someone so eager to go to work.
Whenever other people mentioned work, they looked as though their very souls had been drained. Yet Xu Yanche seemed like he could not wait to start immediately.
If Director Hao had not known that Xu Yanche's family was not short on money and that he was worth several hundred million—
he would have thought Xu Yanche was only this enthusiastic about working because he needed the money.
Director Hao looked at Xu Yanche kindly, feeling that the young man had an admirable level of political awareness.
If it had been someone else, they might not have handed such an ability over to the state.
"Little Xu, work hard. It just so happens to be Sunday today. Ling, go arrange a dedicated workstation for Little Xu. Little Xu's proactive attitude toward work is something we should all learn from."
Half an hour later, Xu Yanche stared silently at his workstation.
His workstation was in the corner of the lobby, with a desk and chair.
It came equipped with a computer.
There was also a printer beside it.
He felt like a mascot.
Ling Xu patted Xu Yanche on the shoulder. "Work hard. Once you've worked for four hours, you can leave. All kinds of cases may come to you in a bit, so be prepared. Don't reveal your abilities in front of outsiders."
Xu Yanche nodded.
He sat before the desk, turned on the computer, and started playing Spider Solitaire.
He had not even played for two minutes when someone came to get him.
They asked him to look at the family members involved in a child trafficking case.
The case had been under investigation since last month, but there had still been no progress.
Now, one of the victims' family members had come to ask about the situation again.
Their instincts told them that the couple was suspicious.
Xu Yanche looked through the glass at the people inside.
He said to the captain beside him, "This couple is the mastermind behind this child trafficking case. They're playing the victim while committing the crime. The kidnapped children are being hidden in an abandoned factory in the suburbs, along with ten accomplices."
"Their daughter was never missing at all. She's an accomplice too, helping them trick other children."
The captain in charge of the case looked grave.
"Alright, understood. Can you type out the specifics?"
Xu Yanche finally understood why there was a printer beside his workstation and why they had specifically assigned him such a good computer.
So that was what it was for.
"Alright. Right away."
Xu Yanche was extremely enthusiastic.
His fingers clattered across the keyboard. Ten minutes later, he handed the printed pages to the captain. "Here's what you wanted."
During those four hours, Xu Yanche felt like a spinning top, busy beyond belief.
His typing never stopped.
When work ended, Xu Yanche hummed happily as he shut down the computer.
Before doing so, he specifically set up a program to protect the files on his computer.
After Xu Yanche left the police station humming a tune—
Director Hao had the technicians inspect Xu Yanche's computer.
An hour later, the technician looked so worried he was nearly bald. "Director, Xu Yanche really knows his stuff. We can't crack it."
Director Hao was in a good mood. "Understood." Hahaha, it looked like they had truly found a treasure this time.
Xu Yanche scanned a shared bike and rode it to the night market.
He bought five servings of tofu pudding and twenty-five lamb skewers.
When he saw someone selling zeng cake,
he bought ten yuan's worth.
Then he happily rode the shared bike home.
The weather in September was still somewhat hot.
Especially since Xu Yanche was pedaling a shared bike right now.
A thin layer of sweat had already formed on his forehead.
Xu Yanche regretted it now. If he had known, he would have hailed a taxi and spared himself this suffering.
Once he got home, he would take a nice shower and enjoy the air conditioning.
Half an hour later, Xu Yanche finally pedaled his way home.
He parked the bike, carried his purchases, entered the passcode, and went inside.
The moment he entered, cool air rushed toward him.
The heat on his body faded away. It felt so comfortable that he wanted to lie down and sleep immediately.
He felt like he had come back to life.
He was sweaty now, which made him feel rather uncomfortable.
The He Household was sitting on the couch watching television when they saw Xu Yanche return.
Jiang Qian nudged her son sitting beside her with her foot, signaling for him to be more proactive.
He Qing placed the peeled orange in his mother's hand. "Got it."
He stood up and walked over to Xu Yanche, taking the things Xu Yanche was carrying and placing them on the table.
Then he scooped Xu Yanche up and headed upstairs.
Huh? What's gotten into He Qing? Why is he suddenly so proactive? He actually carried me upstairs on his own. What's he trying to do? Does he want to eat me again like he did a few nights ago? Has he been holding it in too long? Once he got a taste, he couldn't stop?
Jiang Qian, who was eating an orange, choked when she heard Xu Yanche's thoughts.
"Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough."
He Yumo, who had been watching the news nearby, hurriedly patted Jiang Qian's back and handed her the warm water on the table. "What happened? You choked just eating an orange? Are you still uncomfortable? Should I take you to the hospital?"
Jiang Qian rolled her eyes at He Yumo without holding back. "I only coughed twice. I don't need to go to the hospital. Those two really do have a good relationship."
He Yumo said, "I heard from people at the company today that Yanyan even brought lunch to that brat He Qing at noon. That kid looks all cold and aloof, but he was probably already over the moon inside."
Jiang Qian said, "Definitely."
Xu Yanche looked at He Qing, reached out to touch his Adam's apple, then leaned close and blew into his ear. "Qingqing Darling, are you hungry?"
He Qing lowered his eyes at Xu Yanche, who was teasing him, but said nothing.
He carried him into the bathroom. "Shower."
After setting Xu Yanche down, He Qing wanted to leave.
But he did not succeed.
Xu Yanche grabbed He Qing's hand and pinned him against the wall. "Qingqing Darling, this is where you're in the wrong. I originally planned to shower after dinner, but you carried me upstairs without asking, so you have to see it through and give me a bath."
"Anyway, we've already seen everything we should and shouldn't see. There's no need to be embarrassed."
What is this dog of a man pretending to be so reserved for? Why wasn't he this reserved last night? He must be enjoying himself to death inside right now.
He Qing said, "..." Though he did not want to admit it, Xu Yanche was right.
He calmed himself down, wrapped an arm around Xu Yanche's waist, and kissed his lips. "Mm. I'll wash you."
Xu Yanche went along with it. "Washing one person is washing, and washing two people is washing too. How about we shower together? Take a lovers' bath."
As He Qing listened to Xu Yanche's words, the tips of his ears burned.
A blush spread across his abstinent-looking face, softening his cold features slightly.
