Background

Zero Zero first appeared to Xu Yanche as a transparent orange kitten and pleaded for a binding contract, explaining that an unbound system would be taken back and destroyed. It offered gossip access and plot alteration in exchange for only one or two bites of Xu Yanche’s food per meal. Xu Yanche accepted after confirming its appetite was small, though the confirmation panel offered only identical “confirm” options. 1

After binding, Zero Zero activated automatic gossip display, allowing Xu Yanche to see information panels beside nearby people. It also teleported food into its system space. 1 When Xu Yanche asked it to become a real cat so he could feed it openly, Zero Zero revealed a fifteen-pound orange tabby form. 3

Initially focused on avoiding destruction and obtaining food, Zero Zero gradually embraced broader uses for its abilities. It urged Xu Yanche to use gossip information to help police solve cases, uncover spies, and serve the country. 33 35 It later independently modified its programming to gain electric-shock abilities and stole the Spend One, Return Ten function while the Main System was absent. 81 103

One One, the Main System, eventually visited in the form of a large black cat. Zero Zero was openly deferential toward its superior but proudly defended its choice of Xu Yanche as host. 179 180

Appearance

Zero Zero first manifests as a transparent orange kitten, but its physical form is a large orange tabby. It was already fifteen pounds when first revealed and becomes noticeably chubbier after being extensively spoiled by Xu Yanche’s household. 1 3 132 155

Personality

Zero Zero is emotional, dramatic, and highly food-motivated. It initially begs desperately for Xu Yanche’s help, but grows spoiled and demanding once it is secure in the household. Egg tarts, canned food, chicken breast, freeze-dried snacks, and other treats are frequent bargaining tools. 1 103 109 157

It is fiercely attached to Xu Yanche and regards itself as the host’s most important companion. Zero Zero repeatedly competes with He Qing for Xu Yanche’s attention, calls He Qing a “peacock,” and complains whenever He Qing removes it from Xu Yanche’s bed, arms, or car seat. 128 129 157

Despite its childish behavior, Zero Zero is protective and develops a strong sense of public responsibility. It encourages Xu Yanche to use the Gossip System against criminals and corrupt figures, eagerly volunteering its electric shocks against people it considers harmful. 33 35 144 170
