Ten minutes later.
Bian He sat pitifully by the bed.
Wan Ying sat at the computer desk without sparing him a single glance.
"Tell me what you did wrong."
Wrong?
Bian He lowered his eyes and thought.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have climbed onto the bed without your permission and secretly hugged you."
Wan Ying tapped the desk lightly with his index finger as he listened to the reflection.
Fine. He wasn't completely stupid. At least he knew he had done something wrong.
Wan Ying had been indulging him more and more, and Bian He had kept testing his limits.
He already dared to sneak onto his bed. What would he do next? Bully him?
"Bian He, don't cross the line."
He could not keep indulging him.
Bian He rested both hands on the edge of the bed and lowered his head.
He did not say a word.
Wan Ying glanced at him.
Was he sulking?
He stood up and opened the door to leave.
He was hungry. He needed something to eat.
When he opened the refrigerator, half the food inside was gone.
He took out two packs of hot dry noodles, washed some greens, and pulled out sliced fatty beef, bacon, and meatballs.
It took him twenty minutes to make a lavish breakfast.
He had made a little too much.
"Come downstairs and eat."
He called out, then immediately heard cheerful footsteps coming down the stairs.
Wan Ying set out the bowls and chopsticks, a faint smile flashing through his eyes.
He really was easy to placate.
Give him a slap, then reward him with half a candied date, and he could be happy like a child.
Bian He stood at the staircase landing and glanced at the dining table.
He jumped down from two steps up and sat in the seat Wan Ying usually used.
He picked up his chopsticks. "You worked hard, Brother."
Smack!
Wan Ying used his chopsticks to tap him on the head. "Wash your hands first. If you're this dirty again, you won't be allowed at the table next time."
Bian He pulled a face and obediently went to wash his hands.
One minute later, he reappeared at the table.
He lifted his chin proudly and waved his hands. "I've washed them clean."
How could Little Treasure be this cute?
He was deliberately trying to get more from Wan Ying.
Wan Ying silently gave his approval, and Little Treasure obediently started eating.
"The food you made is so delicious."
"I can eat three huge bowls."
"Oh no, I forgot to take a picture."
He chattered nonstop as he ate, his mouth never taking a break.
Listening to his rambling, Wan Ying unknowingly ate more than usual.
In the past, he would have found it annoying long ago. No talking while eating or sleeping; when eating, one should quietly keep one's mouth shut.
Bian He was a little greedy with food and ate messily, oil staining the corner of his mouth.
Wan Ying looked twice, then looked away, resisting the urge to wipe his mouth for him.
He could not spoil him until he had no manners. In the end, he would only grow greedier.
Perhaps he was already hovering at the edge of greed.
Having one more creature in his life did not seem too bad. He could warm the bed, and he ran hot.
Every winter before, Wan Ying would wake up cold in the middle of the night. Now, he was experiencing what it felt like to wake up from being too warm.
How could he have so much energy?
He was like a furnace that maintained a constant temperature. Wan Ying's hands and feet would no longer be freezing.
"Wash the dishes after you finish eating." Wan Ying put down his chopsticks, stood, and gave the order.
Bian He blinked his sparkling eyes, as though stars lived in them, and gave a salute. "Yes, sir!"
He was far too good at acting cute.
Wan Ying suppressed his thoughts and went upstairs.
He had two days off, so he would stay home and keep him company.
When he returned to the bedroom, the floor was a complete mess, covered in torn-open snack bags.
Fine. The Little Treasure he was raising could even wreck the house.
The door was open, and he could hear Bian He humming downstairs while washing the dishes.
He gave up on calling him upstairs.
Wan Ying picked up all the bags from the floor and threw them into the trash, tidying up a little while helping digest his food.
He washed up.
Wan Ying lay on the bed and read.
He barely took in any of the book's contents. His mind was full of Puppy.
Why had he not come back yet? Why was washing two bowls taking so long?
Could he have broken the bowls and been too afraid to come upstairs because he feared Wan Ying would be angry?
Or had he accidentally cut his hand while picking up the broken pieces?
Wan Ying wore a cold expression as his thoughts ran wild, wrinkling the book in his hand.
He waited a while longer, but Bian He still did not appear.
He casually tossed the book onto the desk.
Just as he was about to get up,
Footsteps came from downstairs.
Bian He ran all the way upstairs. "I finished washing the bowls and chopsticks. I washed them three times."
Bian He leaned against the doorway and peeked inside, his brows furrowed pitifully. "The water was too cold. My hands are all red. I need Brother to warm them for me."
He waved his fingers, reddened by the cold water, looking as though the word pitiful was written across his face.
Wan Ying sighed. "Come here. Let me see."
Why was he so delicate? Had he never washed dishes before?
"There are two controls on that sink for adjusting the temperature. Have you never washed dishes before?"
Bian He lowered his eyes, a flicker passing through them.
How could he possibly have done chores like washing dishes?
"You can adjust the temperature? Back on the mountain, we didn't have those things. We washed dishes by the stream."
He walked to the bed and placed both hands on it.
His reddened fingers were long, and his nails were neatly trimmed and rounded.
Wan Ying stared at his hands, and that thought surfaced in his mind again.
How could one person's fingers be so long?
At least it would save him some shopping money.
He would not need to buy certain aids.
There were too many distracting thoughts.
He released his pheromones.
Covering Bian He's hands with his own, he said, "I wonder who raised you to be this delicate. You complain even after washing a few dishes."
Bian He shook his head and answered without hesitation, "Brother raised me. You can't abandon me."
How afraid was he of being abandoned again? He had to say it every time.
"I can't raise such a delicate Little Treasure."
He held Bian He's hand and pressed at the knuckles.
"Bian He, has anyone ever told you that your fingers are very long?"
He had merely tried to make casual conversation, but Bian He suddenly became embarrassed. He pulled free from Wan Ying's hand and curled up under the bed, unwilling to come out.
Wan Ying stared at his empty hand, dumbfounded.
Had he... said something he should not have?
"What's wrong?"
A voice came from beneath the bed.
"Do you not like my hands?"
He had just been embarrassed. Why was he crying now?
"They all said long fingers aren't good..."
The sound of his sobbing was especially grating. Wan Ying did not like it.
"Bian He, come out." Wan Ying leaned against the headboard and gave the order coldly.
After waiting a while, Bian He obediently crawled out.
Wan Ying did not need to say anything more.
"Get on the bed."
Little Bian He climbed onto the bed, tear tracks on his face. His eyes were red, and so was his nose.
There were still tears clinging to his eyelashes.
At that moment, Wan Ying found him exceptionally beautiful.
If that day truly came, would he cry even harder? Would he cry himself unconscious?
"I only said that your fingers were long. Why are you crying?"
When Wan Ying voiced his question, Little Bian He's pale face turned red again. His gaze flickered, and he lowered his head instead of looking at him.
"They said my fingers were ugly. My fingers are too long. No one would like them."
His voice was dejected, and his entire body radiated gloom.
Wan Ying grabbed his hand and pressed it against his own face. "Am I not a person? Who said no one would like them?"
His head heated up, and he instinctively comforted him.
He wanted to take the words back.
But Little Bian He looked up at him, blinking those starry eyes.
"Really? Brother likes them? You don't think they're strange?"
Seeing Little Treasure's smiling face, Wan Ying forgot how to react.
Wan Ying continued comforting him. "They're not strange. I really like them. Little Treasure's fingers are long and beautiful, and they feel very nice to touch."
