The cold glint in the wolf's eyes was almost tangible, stabbing straight into Ni Lue's own. In an instant, he felt as though he had lost his balance, as if his whole body were floating through the air before suddenly plunging down!
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
The shrill rush of wind swept past his ears!
"Not good!"
The sudden sensation of weightlessness stirred up a feeling in Ni Lue's heart that he could find no solid ground beneath his feet. He instinctively flailed his arms, trying to find something to brace himself against, but to no avail.
Boom!
With a tremendous crash, Ni Lue's back struck something. Dust billowed up all around him, jolting his muddled mind back to clarity. Then, with a swift kip-up, he sprang to his feet and looked around. What met his eyes was a dim, gloomy hall, surrounded by cold, hard brick walls and shrouded in darkness.
Brushing the dust from his body, Ni Lue began to think.
"I seem to have fallen from above and landed in this hall. But these walls look extremely hard, and there is plenty of dust on the ground. It feels as though this place has been abandoned for a long time. There is barely any light, and no sunlight reaches here. Could it be underground?"
As he thought, he looked up—and froze where he stood.
The hall's ceiling was very high, arched, and built of stone. Such construction was rare in the world today, and only the royal family of Great Fall, along with certain great nobles and powerful feudal lords, could afford an undertaking like this while keeping it from collapsing. But that was not what surprised Ni Lue. His true confusion lay elsewhere...
"I clearly fell from above, yet the vaulted ceiling is completely intact, without even
