Background / History

Donghua is a continent marked by unusual change. Outside powers identify it as a place where a Human Path dynasty is reforming, great powers reincarnate, Star Lords are imprisoned, and Ancient Gods revive. Its possible elevation into the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands makes it both an opportunity and a danger to those watching from beyond 857.

Before its ascension crisis, Qiu Yan’s development altered Donghua’s balance. His Literary Web connected Donghua’s scholars with projections of Grand Confucians and Grandmasters from Blood Purgatory, exposing the continent’s Human Path to other doctrines and creating debate between schools across continents 972 973. Qiu Yan used the convergence of Orders to force Donghua’s learned figures into an alliance for Dao debates rather than simply subduing them by force 977.

Donghua later became the target of direct celestial intervention. Black Wind Great Venerable invaded to seize its Fortune and merge with the continent, while Qiu Yan—then Donghua’s Star Lord—organized resistance through the Human Path, divine powers, Dragon Qi, and the Myriad People Pill 1210 1221. Qiu Yan’s victory and subsequent ascent to Heaven Lord status reshaped Donghua’s history: a second sun appeared, and its influence altered the people’s memories so that it seemed to have always existed 1227.

As Donghua’s Fortune rose, Heaven Will Continent, Candle Dragon’s Scale-Armored Tribe, Mohist forces, Divine Path powers, and multiple Heaven Lords began competing for influence over it 1272 1327 1329. These conflicts accelerated the continent’s transformation and culminated in an ongoing ascension toward Greater World status 1452.

Fortune and Ascension

Donghua’s Fortune is the central prize in the struggle surrounding the continent. Its native Fortune, the Fortune brought by Beyond-Heaven Mohist forces, and the Fortune of the Scale-Armored Tribe clash within and around the land, increasing the total Fortune while destabilizing the balance of power 1330.

The continent’s ascension is compared to cultivation: as its rank rises, its laws, space-time, and Fortune must transform. Its inhabitants may gain immense benefits from this process, which is why Heaven Lords and Star Lords seek to tie their own Fortune to Donghua 1452.

Donghua’s Human Path is diverse but historically fragmented. Its Divine Path, Immortal Path, and Human Path each possess their own adherents, and division among these groups weakens the continent’s ability to draw upon its full power against invasion 1290.

Literary Web

Qiu Yan established Donghua’s Humanistic Network around the Divine Path, using Literary Thought to connect students and plant Human Path doctrines in their hearts. The network initially depended heavily on his Divine Spirit Body and required years of stable dissemination to reach scholars broadly 863.

The later union of the Donghua Literary Web with the Blood Purgatory Literary Web enabled Grand Confucians and Grandmasters from other continents to project their consciousnesses into Donghua’s intellectual sphere 972. This led to both conflict and learning among schools of thought 973 1020.

Human Hearts and Authority

Donghua’s people can become an active force in defending their land. When Qiu Yan’s power stirred the fears and desire for salvation within the Imperial City, human hearts and the land produced a force of worldly rejection against foreign intruders 1337.

The continent’s Human Path also links Dragon Qi, divine faith, and thought through the Humanistic Network. During the crisis surrounding the Crown Prince’s sacrifice, incense faith destabilized and transformed into Fortune, gradually echoing with Dragon Qi 1216.

Major Conflicts

Black Wind’s Invasion

Black Wind Great Venerable arrived ahead of other powers and sought to swallow Donghua’s Fortune whole, merging himself with the continent 1210. His Heaven Lord-level destructive power threatened to devastate Donghua even when intercepted by Human Path Thunder 1210.

Qiu Yan resisted him by mobilizing Donghua’s Fortune, the Yellow and Black Dragons, seven-colored light, divine power, and the Myriad People Pill into a massive pill furnace 1221. After Black Wind’s defeat, Qiu Yan became Donghua’s Heaven Lord and began assimilating Black Wind’s power 1227.

Heaven Will Continent’s Invasion

The Unified Will of Heaven Will Continent accelerated its planned invasion of Donghua, opening paths through the starry sky and dispatching a grand army 1272. Its Mohist forces relied on Mechanism Arts and Earth-Vein communications, but Donghua eventually used the same Earth Vein Method to issue military orders rapidly and reverse the invaders’ communications advantage 1319.

Donghua’s northern forces later used their terrain, planning, and coordination to nearly annihilate Heaven Will Continent’s largest Grasslands forces 1320.

Candle Dragon and the Scale-Armored Tribe

Candle Dragon advanced toward Donghua with the Scale-Armored Tribe living across his enormous serpent body 1146. His forces attacked cultivators and Mechanism Arts practitioners indiscriminately after spatial fissures opened near the Eastern Sea 1327.

Qiu Yan prevented Candle Dragon’s direct advance by fixing space with the Literary Web. This halted Candle Dragon’s movement through space and, consequently, his temporal advance toward Donghua 1328. Candle Dragon then revived remnants of Donghua’s people inside worlds within his body, using their lingering Fortune and Karma to establish a closer connection to the continent 1328.

Contest of the Heaven Lords

Donghua’s ascension brought Heaven Lords into direct competition. Candle Dragon, Nandou Heaven Lord, Black Heaven, Sun Eater Demon Venerable, Blood Purgatory Venerable Chaos, and others each proposed alliances to Qiu Yan while seeking a share of Donghua’s Fortune 1329.

The resulting deadlock was compared to hungry wolves surrounding a piece of meat: every party desired Donghua, but none could move first without becoming vulnerable to the others 1330. Qiu Yan used this stalemate to preserve time and maintain Donghua’s advantage 1330.

Notable Inhabitants and Defenders

• Qiu Yan / Donghua Heaven Lord — Native Heaven Lord and principal defender of Donghua. He built the Literary Web, directed resistance to Black Wind, and guides the continent through ascension 977 1227 1454.
• Min Yuan — Donghua’s Star Lord during Black Wind’s invasion; rapidly advanced and blocked Black Wind’s initial attack 1210.
