To help Old Pym solve the problem of finding office space, Daisy led agents and two San Francisco city councilors to the Life Foundation. Extraterrestrial life invading Earth fell entirely under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s jurisdiction. Everyone involved had to be taken away for questioning. They might even find clues to the two escaped symbiotes. Even if they found nothing, getting hold of some specific intelligence in advance would help them prepare for the worst.

San Francisco's morning glow was still bright and beautiful.

After discussing the accidents at Pym Industries and the Life Foundation, the citizens returned to their lives and work. Laboratories and foundations were far too distant from them. It was enough to treat it as news; no one intended to investigate further.

"Ha! That idiot Drake! So this is his day too!" Eddie Brock grinned as he held a newspaper. He read the news about Dr. Drake and the Life Foundation twice over. It felt great. It was satisfying. Thinking of the way that Indian man had looked at him as if he were some lower life-form made him ecstatic.

Eddie Brock had been living quite well lately. It could even be said that he was happy in both body and mind.

When everyone else was happy and you were the one having bad luck, the pain was magnified tenfold by your surroundings. But when everyone was unlucky, the first person to suffer misfortune gained a psychological advantage.

The Great Depression naturally did not spare San Francisco. The people at the top of the economic pyramid could shift their risks elsewhere, while those at the bottom had nothing to begin with. No matter how badly the stock market crashed,
