Zhu Yu followed Shen Jingmo back to Imperial Dragon Bay.
The last time Zhu Yu had come, he had been drunk and hadn't properly examined the house. This time, he took a careful look around. He even suspected the walls were inlaid with gold—they were that bright.
The bodyguards held Shen Jingyan up in the living room.
"Brother! How could you leave Duoduo, a girl, there? It was so dangerous!" Even while being restrained, Shen Jingyan still worried about Su Duoduo, whom they had left in the alley.
Zhu Yu glanced at Shen Jingyan. How could this guy be so oblivious? Couldn't he see that his brother's expression was so dark it was practically dripping ink?
[He still has too much spare money. One day, I'll whisper in the boss's ear and have all his cards frozen. Let's see whether Su Duoduo will still pay attention to him then.]
Shen Jingmo's hand, resting on his leg, twitched when he heard that. Zhu Yu wasn't wrong. Since words wouldn't get through to him, he might as well let him experience some setbacks through action.
"Starting today, I'll freeze every bank card under your name. Listen carefully—every single one." Shen Jingmo looked up at Shen Jingyan, whose face was full of defiance.
"Ah! Why?" Shen Jingyan wasn't an idiot. He knew perfectly well that in their circle, if his brother weren't Shen Jingmo and he didn't have plenty of money in hand, no one would bother currying favor with him.
"There's no why. Think it over yourself. Every month, Assistant Zhu will evaluate your performance and give you a score, then submit it to me. I'll decide whether to restore your cards based on the circumstances." Shen Jingmo folded his hands together.
Zhu Yu pointed at himself in delighted surprise. Me? I'm the one holding Shen Jingyan's financial lifeline now? Oh my god, what kind of wonderful day is this?
"Brother, this isn't fair. The company's closed for half a month. He won't even see me working hard, so doesn't that mean I won't be able to use my bank cards for the next several months?" Shen Jingyan frowned, trying to struggle.
"Assistant Zhu will be staying here with me throughout the holiday. You'll have plenty of time to prove yourself. Of course, whether your performance can earn you the return of your bank cards after a month? Hard to say." Shen Jingmo took a sip of the coffee on the table.
"Me? Staying here?" Before Shen Jingyan could say anything, Zhu Yu blurted out in shock.
[Are you insane? I'm supposed to spend my perfectly wonderful vacation under your watchful eyes? And share a house with this lunatic? No way, absolutely no way. Don't even think about it unless I've gone crazy!]
"Of course, I won't make you do it for nothing. Triple pay." Shen Jingmo raised his eyes.
"As an outstanding employee, my professional standard is to complete every task my boss assigns. I'll certainly do my utmost to supervise Young Master Shen. Please rest assured, Boss."
[I definitely didn't agree because of the triple pay. Triple pay, triple pay!!!]
And so, Zhu Yu successfully began living in a grand villa while earning triple his salary.
When Zhu Yu came downstairs in the morning, he saw the two similar-looking brothers sitting on the sofa. One was reading the newspaper, while the other was looking at a laptop.
Thinking of his main task over the next few days, Zhu Yu quietly walked behind Shen Jingyan. This brat was actually working voluntarily? It looked like it was going to rain red today.
Zhu Yu nodded. He wasn't entirely beyond saving. But when Zhu Yu reached Shen Jingyan's back, he realized the guy wasn't working on his laptop at all. He had logged into a chat app to send Su Duoduo a good morning message.
Just as expected of you! Shen Jingyan had absolutely no idea what remorse was.
"Boss, he's slacking off at work and chatting with Su Duoduo." Zhu Yu didn't indulge him. He immediately tattled, and did so openly.
Shen Jingmo set down his newspaper and looked at Shen Jingyan. Though he said nothing, his expression made his displeasure abundantly clear.
"Shen Jingyan, starting today, Aunt Liu won't cook for you anymore. And don't expect Aunt Wang at Grandfather's place to cook for you either—I'll let her know in advance. From now on, fend for yourself." With that, Shen Jingmo rose and headed for the gym on the first floor.
That left Zhu Yu, who was gleefully enjoying the show, and Shen Jingyan, who looked utterly incredulous, standing in the living room.
"What does my brother mean by that?"
"It means, Young Master Shen, that not only will you have no money in the future, you might not even have food to eat."
"Oh my, what young master in this day and age can't even afford to eat? So it's you, my Young Master Shen. Seeing you unable to eat, I really am..."
"I'm really so happy, hahahahahaha!!! Honk honk honk!!!"
Zhu Yu couldn't stop himself from bursting into laughter. By the end, he was laughing so hard he even let out goose-like honks.
"Zhu Yu! You've gone too far!!! I'll fight you!!!" How could Shen Jingyan endure such provocation? He charged forward with both fists clenched.
With a perfect step back and turn, Zhu Yu successfully dodged Shen Jingyan's attack without a scratch.
Meanwhile, Shen Jingyan couldn't stop in time and crashed straight into a decorative vase on the dining table.
Smash... The vase shattered all over the floor.
Zhu Yu covered his mouth as he looked at the fallen vase and person in front of him. "Uh-oh! Young Master, how could you be so careless? What if the boss makes you pay for the vase?"
"My brother would never make me pay for this stupid vase." Shen Jingyan climbed up from the floor in a sorry state, but his mouth was still as stubborn as ever.
Zhu Yu turned around, took out his phone, and sent a message to the boss in the gym.
After receiving a reply, he turned back with a smile to look at the person who had struggled to get up from the floor.
"Sorry, Young Master, but the boss just replied. He wants you to write an IOU. Would you like me to write it and you sign it, or would you like to write it and sign it yourself?"
Bang!!!
Upon hearing that, Shen Jingyan, who had only just managed to stand up, collapsed back onto the floor.
Watching the scene, Zhu Yu clapped his hands in satisfaction. He sat on the leather sofa with one leg crossed over the other, picked the largest apple from the table, and began eating it. For some reason, today's apple tasted especially sweet.
