Background / History

Tang Hao is Tang Chen’s grandson, Tang Zhen’s son, and Tang Xiao’s younger brother. He and Tang Xiao were regarded as Clear Sky Sect’s greatest talents of their generation, both possessing Innate Full Soul Power and being expected to obtain Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Rings after reaching rank 90. 3 32

After leaving Slaughter City, Tang Hao awakened memories of a previous life. In that life, Tang San rose to godhood, Spirit Hall fell, and Tang Hao eventually became Plane Lord of Douluo Continent alongside Ah Yin. Reborn in the past, Tang Hao initially intended only to secure Ah Yin, ensure Tang San’s birth, and allow the Tang family’s former future to recur. 31

He chose not to interfere with Tang Chen’s fate because he feared disrupting the Asura God’s arrangements. He also searched unsuccessfully for the Icefire Yin Yang Well, concluding that it would not emerge until Tang San’s birth. 32

Ah Yin and the sacrifice plot

While traveling with Tang Xiao, Tang Hao believed Ah Yin had chosen him after both brothers confessed to her. Tang Xiao ultimately agreed to witness their wedding before returning to the sect. 31

Tang Hao’s memories made Ah Yin central to his plans: he wanted Tang San to inherit the Blue Silver Emperor’s potential while also coveting a Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Ring. 31 32

However, the wedding and subsequent relationship were distorted by an identity-swapping illusion. Tang Hao entered the bridal chamber with A-Xi, a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Scabby Giant Lizard whom he mistook for Ah Yin, while the real Ah Yin was with Qian Xunyi. Tang Hao consequently treated the child born from A-Xi as his own son, Tang San. 33 34 44

Tang Hao deliberately crippled Mad Rhinoceros Douluo rather than killing him, intending for the elder to report back to Spirit Hall and trigger a pursuit. His plan was to manufacture a desperate situation in which the woman he believed to be Ah Yin would sacrifice herself to him. 38 39

During the confrontation at Heavenly Valley Ridge, A-Xi ultimately sacrificed herself to protect Tang Hao and Tang San. The sacrifice gave Tang Hao a Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Ring, raised him to Title Douluo level, and enabled him to counter-kill Golden Bell and Silver Hammer Douluos before seriously injuring Qian Xunji. 43 44 47

Separation from the Clear Sky Sect

Following the conflict with Spirit Hall, Tang Hao was named the new Clear Sky Douluo. The Clear Sky Sect celebrated his achievement, believing his red Soul Ring would allow him to eventually reach Tang Chen’s level. 47

As Spirit Hall demanded that the sect surrender him, Tang Hao voluntarily withdrew from the Clear Sky Sect. He declared that he alone would bear the consequences of his actions and sent that message through a Spirit Hall deacon whose Martial Soul he crippled. 60 61

Spirit Hall nevertheless used Tang Hao’s actions as justification to attack the Clear Sky Sect, rejecting the legitimacy of his withdrawal because he retained the Clear Sky Hammer, his cultivation, and his title. 76 The sect was devastated, and Tang Hao and Tang Yuehua were described as its only remaining bloodline outside Spirit Hall’s custody. 87

Afterward, Tang Hao settled Tang San in Sacred Soul Village and hid the Seed of Life and Soul Bone he believed belonged to Ah Yin in the Water Curtain Cave. 88

Appearance

Tang Hao is repeatedly described as a burly, broad-backed man. 60

  • Carries and fights with the Clear Sky Hammer. 38
  • His eight-ring configuration as a Soul Douluo was yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, black. 38
  • He later displayed nine red Soul Rings while ambushing Spirit Hall’s convoy. 354 355
  • In his Black Fury state, he is described as pitch-black all over. 328

Personality

Tang Hao is prideful and intensely convinced of his own future importance. His memories as a former Plane Lord make him dismiss many opponents as beneath him, and he repeatedly expects Tang San to resolve problems that he himself does not wish to analyze. 31 115

He is also calculating and ruthless. He engineered Spirit Hall’s pursuit to pressure A-Xi into sacrificing herself, consciously treating the resulting Spirit Ring and Tang San’s future inheritance as parts of the same plan. 39 43 44

Despite this, Tang Hao frames himself as a protector of his family and sect. He refused to yield A-Xi to Spirit Hall, later accepted responsibility for the crisis surrounding Clear Sky Sect, and continued to place the Tang family’s long-term interests above all else. 42 60 144

His loyalty to Tang San is paired with a readiness to murder perceived threats. He offered to assassinate Yu Tianheng, ambushed Spirit Hall’s Seven-Cannon Team, and later killed independent God Chosen who threatened Tang San’s monopoly over divine inheritance. 354 371 400

Tang Hao is also unexpectedly incapable of protecting Tang San’s secrets under questioning. During his detention by the God of Destruction, he voluntarily and truthfully disclosed the Tang family’s entire scheme to seize Douluo Continent’s Plane Spirit and turn the God Realm into a Tang family dynasty. 359

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Hao’s Martial Soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, the Clear Sky Sect’s signature inheritance. Its combat style emphasizes direct force, dominance, and defense-breaking power. 2 38

  • Defeated Mad Rhinoceros Douluo while still an eight-ring Soul Douluo. 38
  • Forced back Qian Xunji’s Six-Winged Angel through the Chaotic Cloak Hammer Technique. 42
  • Uses Clear Sky Protection to survive heavy attacks. 42
  • Can use Ring Detonation to convert Soul Rings into explosive Soul Power. 44
  • Can channel detonated Ring power into the Great Sumeru Hammer. 44
  • His full-force Ring Detonation and maximized Chaotic Cloak were still casually deflected by Qian Xunyi after Tang Hao had gained God Official-level combat power. 266

Divine Slaughter’s Domain

Tang Hao possesses the Divine Slaughter’s Domain, later learning that the Asura God had enhanced it to make him a suitable guardian for Tang San. 42

  • Multiplies his combat power when activated. 355
  • Was instrumental in his ability to defeat stronger Title Douluo opponents shortly after becoming a Title Douluo. 42
  • Its enhancement is insufficient against Limit Douluo-level foes; Yue Guan and Gui Mei overwhelmed him despite the Domain. 355

Ninth Soul Skill: Scabby Hammer

The sacrifice of A-Xi gave Tang Hao a ninth Soul Skill called Scabby Hammer. 43 44

  • Its power, amplified by Divine Slaughter’s Domain, was sufficient to instantly kill two Title Douluos. 44
  • Tang Hao himself found the skill’s appearance and name repulsive, having expected a life-attribute skill from the Blue Silver Emperor. 44
  • The skill’s lizard-themed nature ultimately reflected that the sacrificed individual was A-Xi rather than the real Ah Yin. 44

Sea God’s Light

After later descending to Douluo Continent, Tang Hao used Sea God’s Light against the Holy Spirit Cult. 356

  • Purified Evil Soul Masters. 356
  • Installed Ye Xishui as the Sea God’s mortal spokesperson and placed a Sea God’s Crown upon him. 356
  • Used the event to strengthen the cult’s worship of Sea God Tang San rather than eradicate the cult outright. 356

Plane Authority

Tang Hao spent ten thousand years inside the Plane Core covertly stealing the authority of Douluo Continent’s Plane Will under Tang San’s arrangements. 265

  • Could contest the Plane Will after accumulating authority for ten thousand years. 265
  • Expected Ah Yin’s possession of the Life Core to accelerate his seizure of the Plane Will. 245 265
  • The illicit mobilization of Plane Authority later became a central charge in his arrest by the God of Destruction. 358

Divine Blacksmithing

Tang Hao is identified as one of the continent’s divine blacksmiths, though blacksmithing is treated as secondary to his identity as a Soul Master and Clear Sky Sect inheritor. 149

Equipment / Items

  • Clear Sky Hammer — His Martial Soul and primary weapon. 38
  • Full Soul Bone set — Acquired during his earlier travels with Tang Xiao. 31 32
  • Seed of Life and Soul Bone believed to be Ah Yin’s — Hidden in the Water Curtain Cave after A-Xi’s sacrifice; later discovered missing after Qian Xunyi took them. 88 334
  • Whale Rubber — Carried in a Soul Tool and given to Tang San. 145

Relationships

  • Tang Chen — Grandfather and former Clear Sky Sect leader. Tang Hao admired Tang Chen’s ambition to turn the Clear Sky Hammer into a God-Level Martial Soul. 3
  • Tang Zhen — Father and Clear Sky Sect Master. Tang Zhen named him Clear Sky Douluo after A-Xi’s sacrifice. 47
  • Tang Xiao — Older brother, traveling companion, and rival for Ah Yin’s affection. Tang Xiao believed he witnessed Tang Hao and Ah Yin’s wedding, though the event was compromised by the identity-swapping illusion. 31 33 44
  • Tang Yuehua — Younger sister. Tang Hao entrusted her with his decision to leave Clear Sky Sect and face Spirit Hall alone. She was later brainwashed into betraying the sect and ultimately submitted to Qian Xunyi of her own will. 60 68 87 88
  • Ah Yin — Tang Hao considers Ah Yin his wife and Tang San’s mother, but the wedding illusion caused him to spend the marriage with A-Xi while the real Ah Yin was with Qian Xunyi. Ah Yin later aligned herself with Qian Xunyi, assisted in restraining Tang Hao, and openly disparaged Tang Hao as “Rat.” 33 44 264 266
  • A-Xi — A transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Scabby Giant Lizard whom Tang Hao mistook for Ah Yin. She became the woman in his bridal chamber, bore the child Tang Hao named Tang San, and sacrificed herself to provide his ninth Soul Ring and Soul Bone. 34 39 43 44
  • Tang San — The child Tang Hao recognizes as his son and the foundation of his long-term plans. Tang Hao trusts Tang San’s judgment, acts as his enforcer, and helped him pursue control over the Plane Spirit and divine inheritance. 31 115 144 359
  • Qian Xunji — Spirit Hall Pope and early enemy. Tang Hao gravely wounded him after receiving A-Xi’s sacrifice. 44 47
  • Qian Xunyi — Major adversary who later overpowered Tang Hao with ease, held the Seed of Life and Soul Bones as leverage, and gained Ah Yin’s allegiance. 266 334
  • Ye Xishui — Appointed by Tang Hao as the Sea God’s spokesperson within the Holy Spirit Cult. 356
  • Luo San — A Spirit Hall-affiliated youth whose family Tang Hao murdered while seeking shelter after the Heavenly Valley Ridge conflict. Luo San recognizes Tang Hao as his family’s killer and seeks revenge. 140 354
  • God of Destruction — Had Tang Hao arrested and interrogated over his unauthorized descent and use of Plane Authority. 358 359
  • Ye Ming — A self-created Godhood candidate whom Tang Hao killed on Tang San’s orders. Tang Hao subsequently transferred Ye Ming’s intact corpse to the God Realm so Tang San could extract its powerful bloodline and potentially grant Tang Hao Ye Ming’s Body Martial Soul. 371

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rebirth and the Ah Yin pursuit

Tang Hao’s rebirth drives his initial storyline. Armed with memories of becoming Plane Lord in his previous life, he targets the restoration of Tang San’s destined rise and deliberately seeks to secure Ah Yin as his wife. 31 32

The later revelation that he actually married and lived with A-Xi under an identity-swapping illusion undermines Tang Hao’s belief that he had successfully restored his former family. 33 34 44

Rise of the Clear Sky Douluo

By provoking Spirit Hall into pursuing A-Xi, Tang Hao engineers the circumstances for her sacrifice. He becomes a Title Douluo with a Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Ring, kills two Spirit Hall elders, wounds Qian Xunji, and receives the title of Clear Sky Douluo. 39 43 44 47

Clear Sky Sect’s fall

Tang Hao leaves the Clear Sky Sect to take responsibility for the conflict, but Spirit Hall refuses to separate him from the sect and launches its extermination campaign. The sect’s destruction remains a defining grievance for Tang Hao and Tang San. 61 76 86

Tang San’s protector and accomplice

Tang Hao raises Tang San in Sacred Soul Village, personally awakens his Martial Souls, and cooperates with him in schemes involving Yu Xiaogang, Soul Ring hunting, and the Tang family’s future interests. 302 308 354

He treats Tang San’s rivals as threats to be removed, offering to kill Yu Tianheng and later acting against several God Chosen to leave Tang San as the sole candidate for the Asura Godhood. 334 400

Plane Core conspiracy

Under Tang San’s direction, Tang Hao remains within the Plane Core for ten thousand years and steals the Plane Will’s authority. His planned seizure of the Plane Spirit was intended to make Douluo Continent a permanent source of fortune, talent, and political power for the Tang family. 245 265 359

Qian Xunyi interrupted this plan by easily suppressing Tang Hao, while Ah Yin restrained him and sided with Qian Xunyi rather than her former husband. 266

Conflict with Spirit Hall’s evolved elders

Tang Hao ambushes a Spirit Hall convoy but is stopped by Tang San’s intervention. Soon afterward, he challenges Yue Guan and Gui Mei, only to be decisively defeated by the two level 99 Limit Douluos despite activating Divine Slaughter’s Domain. 354 355

Sea God-aligned intervention

Acting on Tang San’s strategy, Tang Hao descends before the Holy Spirit Cult as a saint-like figure. He purifies selected Evil Soul Masters, preserves the cult rather than eliminating it, and directs it to spread faith in Sea God Tang San. 356

Arrest and confession before the God Realm Committee

Four God Officials arrested Tang Hao on the God of Destruction’s orders for descending to the Lower Realm and mobilizing Plane Authority. Tang San initially attempted to defend him through legal arguments and a three-day wager. 358

During the interrogation, however, Tang Hao voluntarily exposed Tang San’s plans to control the Plane Spirit, manipulate Douluo Continent’s fortune, collude with Zhou Weiqing, and seize the godhoods of Life and Destruction. His testimony destroyed Tang San’s defense before the God Realm Committee. 359

Suppression of independent godhood

Tang Hao killed Ye Ming after Ye Ming nearly succeeded in creating an independent Godhood. He justified the killing as enforcement of Tang San’s prohibition against outsiders disrupting Douluo Continent’s established divine order. 371

At Tang San’s command, Tang Hao preserved and sent Ye Ming’s body to the God Realm, where Tang San extracted its exceptional bloodline and planned to grant Tang Hao Ye Ming’s Body Martial Soul. 371

Notable Quotes

“I voluntarily withdraw from the sect. I am no longer a disciple of Clear Sky Sect. I take responsibility for my own actions.” 60

“If you want to hurt her, step over my corpse first.” 42

Trivia

  • Tang Hao’s ninth Soul Skill is named Scabby Hammer, a result he personally found baffling given his belief that the sacrificed woman was the Blue Silver Emperor. 44
  • He initially believed the Icefire Yin Yang Well would only appear when Tang San was born, because he considered it an opportunity arranged by the Asura God. 32
  • Tang Hao’s confidence in Divine Slaughter’s Domain was badly shaken when Yue Guan casually stopped his Soaring Heaven Strike with one hand. 355
  • Qian Xunyi and Ah Yin both call Tang Hao “Rat,” a name that Tang Hao takes as an insult. 266
