Ch. 1Vampire Fruit

After awakening in the body of Karl D. Sephiroth on a deserted island, the reincarnated youth found and ate the Vampire Fruit to gain strength. He collapsed after eating it and was discovered by three men who planned to sell him to nobles.

  • Sephiroth recalled how pirates attacked the ship and his father sacrificed himself to send him to safety.
  • Sephiroth realized he had arrived in the world of Gol D. Roger during the fifth year of the Great Pirate Era and went into the forest to find food.
  • Sephiroth found the purplish-red Vampire Fruit and ate the entire fruit despite its awful taste.
  • Sephiroth vomited and collapsed unconscious in the grass.
  • Three men carrying barrels of water found Sephiroth and decided to take him aboard as merchandise to sell to nobles.

Ch. 2Pirate Empress Boa Hancock

Sephiroth woke aboard a slave ship alongside the young Boa Hancock and her sisters, then discovered that his Vampire Fruit power let him escape his shackles. He freed the girls and asked what they knew about their captors, leaving them ready to plan their escape.

  • Sephiroth woke in a locked cabin, ate fish soup and black bread, and introduced himself to Boa Hancock, Boa Sandersonia, and Boa Marigold.
  • Sephiroth learned the girls had been captured by human traffickers and realized his own shackles could not be broken by strength alone.
  • Sephiroth transformed his hands into bats, which dropped his shackles, and discovered he could control the bats.
  • Sephiroth turned into a swarm of bats, passed through the cabin bars, retrieved the keys, and unlocked the girls' cabin and shackles.
  • Boa Hancock told Sephiroth that she had seen nine captors armed with swords and guns.

Ch. 3Gunfight

Sephiroth and the three girls fought armed intruders aboard the ship as he awakened more of his Vampire Fruit abilities by drinking blood. After healing from a gunshot wound, he remained behind the cargo crates while the enemies waited for their captain.

  • Hancock ambushed a bald man on the stairs, kicking him unconscious as armed men came to investigate.
  • Sephiroth drank the bald man's blood, triggering his Vampiric Transformation and restoring his strength.
  • Sephiroth rushed upstairs and dodged gunfire, discovering that his Vampire Fruit let him heal a graze almost instantly.
  • Hancock threw Sephiroth a pistol, and he shot toward the doorway as the intruders reloaded, killing a man named Kevin.
  • An enemy shot Sephiroth in the wrist, and he dug out the bullet before his wound rapidly healed.

Ch. 4Conqueror's Haki Awakens

Sephiroth awakened Conqueror's Haki while saving Hancock from Captain Peter, then helped secure the slave ship. After deciding the slave traders deserved no mercy, he drained their life force and threw them into the sea, leaving the four young fighters in control of the vessel.

  • Captain Peter's armor and strength overwhelmed Sephiroth and the Boa sisters, leaving Hancock in danger as he prepared to strike her.
  • Sephiroth unleashed Conqueror's Haki in a burst of remorse and rage, knocking everyone aboard unconscious except himself and Hancock.
  • Sephiroth and Hancock tied up the crew, woke Sandersonia and Marigold, and discussed using the ship to reach the next island.
  • Sandersonia said she could navigate the ship, and Sephiroth decided to deal with the six slave traders himself.
  • Sephiroth drained the six traders' life force with the Vampire Fruit and threw them into the sea.

Ch. 5Be Rigorous, Be Scientific

Sandersonia guided the ship through a dangerous storm into a cold winter sea, where the four survivors rested and Sephiroth cooked dinner. After anchoring for the night, Sephiroth and Hancock took the first watch.

  • Sandersonia warned that a massive whirlpool lay ahead, and Marigold, Sephiroth, and Hancock adjusted the ship’s sails and helm to avoid it.
  • The four sailed through the storm into a winter sea, found warm clothes aboard, and prepared to rest.
  • Sephiroth cooked a meal that impressed the three sisters, then explained that he was a doctor rather than a chef.
  • Sandersonia decided to anchor for safety, and the four split into two pairs for night watch, with Sephiroth and Hancock taking the first shift.

Ch. 6What Exactly Is Haki?

While building snowmen with Hancock and the others, Sephiroth asked how to use Haki after awakening Conqueror’s Haki. Hancock explained the types of Haki and demonstrated Armament Haki, leaving Sephiroth eager to begin training.

  • Sephiroth lamented the lack of books aboard the ship before joining Hancock and the others to build snowmen.
  • Sephiroth asked Hancock what Haki was and how he could learn to use it.
  • Hancock explained Conqueror’s, Armament, and Observation Haki, including their abilities and limits.
  • Hancock coated a snowball with Armament Haki and destroyed her snowman with it.
  • Hancock described how to sense and train Armament Haki, while Sephiroth listened closely.

Ch. 7Drink More Hot Water

Sephiroth trained through the night, using his lifespan to recover from the strain of sword practice. When he went to relieve Hancock from watch, he found her feverish and put her back to bed after giving her medicine and hot water.

  • Sephiroth used his Vampire Fruit's life-force ability to recover from an exhausting session of push-ups.
  • Sephiroth completed thirteen thousand basic sword swings, spending half a month of lifespan to endure the training.
  • Sephiroth noticed Hancock had missed their watch shift and went to wake her.
  • Sephiroth found Hancock feverish after she had been soaked and chilled, and told her to rest instead of taking watch.
  • Sephiroth gave Hancock an anti-inflammatory pill with hot water and covered her with an extra blanket.

Ch. 8What Is She Talking About?

After surviving a sudden Grand Line storm, Sephiroth and the two girls ate breakfast aboard their sailboat while he checked on the still-ill Boa Hancock. The chapter ended with Marigold serving Sephiroth a flawed breakfast that he praised despite its shortcomings.

  • Sephiroth recalled how a wave had drained his strength as a Devil Fruit user and reflected that he still had a long way to go before becoming a top fighter.
  • At Sandersonia and Marigold's urging, Sephiroth cooked breakfast and brought a portion to the unconscious Boa Hancock, who woke and spoke with him.
  • Boa Hancock mistook Sephiroth's forehead-to-forehead fever check for a sign he wanted to have children, and he explained that he was checking her temperature.
  • Sandersonia and Marigold ate all the remaining breakfast before realizing Sephiroth had not eaten.
  • Marigold insisted on cooking for Sephiroth, who praised her overcooked, overly salty noodles despite their flaws.

Ch. 9City of Water

After surviving dangerous weather on the Grand Line, Sephiroth and the others reached Water Seven, where he planned to avoid the harbor because the slave traders might have allies there. The group headed for Junkyard Island instead, while Sephiroth remained determined to grow strong enough to avenge his father.

  • Sephiroth recalled that the Beasts Pirates had killed his father and resolved to become strong enough to take revenge.
  • Hancock asked Sephiroth why he trained so hard, and he told her he wanted strength to protect what he cherished and avenge his father.
  • Sandersonia spotted Water Seven and announced that the group had reached the City of Water.
  • Sephiroth warned Marigold not to enter the harbor because the slave traders might have connections in Water Seven.
  • Marigold turned the boat toward Junkyard Island, and Hancock understood why they needed to stay out of sight.

Ch. 10A Bunch of Paupers

Sephiroth confronted Franky after Franky’s cannon damaged their sailboat, then arranged for Tom’s Workers to dismantle it. The group discovered the slave traders had left behind little money, and the sailboat’s salvage became payment for the repairs and labor.

  • Franky accidentally fired a cannonball that shattered the sailboat’s mast, causing Sandersonia to fall onto Sephiroth and briefly break his neck before his healing powers restored him.
  • Iceburg scolded Franky, and Franky admitted responsibility and offered to repair the damaged ship.
  • Sephiroth punched Franky once, declaring them even, then asked Tom’s Workers to dismantle the sailboat.
  • Sephiroth explained that the sailboat’s former crew had tried to enslave them, and Tom approved of Sephiroth throwing the attackers into the sea.
  • Tom’s Workers agreed to dismantle the boat in exchange for its salvaged parts and two animals aboard, while the four found and divided only 463,800 Belly.

Ch. 11Oh no! This is the feeling of a crush...

Sephiroth brought Hancock, Marigold, and Sandersonia into the City of Water, where they rented Arrowfish and explored the struggling city. While Hancock tried on clothes and swimwear, Sephiroth realized he was developing a crush on her.

  • Sephiroth rented two Arrowfish for the group and explained how the City of Water's waterways and submerged buildings came to be.
  • The four traveled to Commercial Street, where Sephiroth described the city's decline and remembered his father's death in a pirate attack.
  • Hancock took Sephiroth shopping and repeatedly asked what he thought of her outfits, while he distractedly watched two other women try on swimsuits.
  • Hancock confronted Sephiroth about staring at the women, then tried on a white bikini and asked what he thought.
  • Sephiroth told Hancock the bikini looked good, looked away, and privately realized his heart was racing.

Ch. 12Seawater's Debilitation of Ability Users

Sephiroth brought Boa Hancock and her sisters to his villa in the City of Water, where Hancock contacted the Kuja Pirates and arranged for them to wait for pickup. While spending time with the girls, Sephiroth considered helping Tom build the Sea Train and discovered how seawater affected his Devil Fruit abilities.

  • Sephiroth climbed over the locked gate, found the villa's spare keys, and let Boa Hancock, Boa Sandersonia, and Boa Marigold inside.
  • Sephiroth showed Boa Hancock the study, where she used the Den Den Mushi to call Belladonna and explain how the sisters had escaped to the City of Water.
  • Belladonna arranged for the three sisters to wait on the island until the Kuja Pirates could come get them.
  • Sephiroth considered replacing the Sea Train's steam engine with an internal combustion engine to help the City of Water and build ties with Tom and his disciples.
  • Sephiroth joined the three girls for water volleyball and found that seawater weakened him and drained his stamina, though he could still use his lifespan-based recovery ability.

Ch. 13Internal Combustion Engine

Sephiroth showed Tom and Franky a rough blueprint for an Internal Combustion Engine to help the Sea Train project, then returned home and told Hughes Shilke that he planned to join the Marines. He left the chapter resolved to pursue strength and influence for revenge against the Beasts Pirates.

  • Tom, Franky, Iceburg, and Yokozuna tested their steam locomotive, but it tipped into the sea before traveling twenty meters, and Tom rescued it.
  • Sephiroth presented Tom with a rough Internal Combustion Engine schematic and explained how it could provide more efficient power for the Sea Train.
  • Tom praised the engine design, while Sephiroth admitted he had no detailed blueprints and then returned home on Arrowfish.
  • Hughes Shilke offered Sephiroth a job at his shipbuilding company, but Sephiroth declined and said he intended to join the Marines to gain strength and support for revenge.
  • Boa Hancock questioned Sephiroth's decision, and Hughes accepted it and offered to help him in the future.

Ch. 14Like?

At Bolton Bar, Shakky explained love to Boa Hancock, Boa Sandersonia, and Boa Marigold, who concluded that they loved Sephiroth. The three drunken sisters later clung to Sephiroth in bed, and he reflected on how much he cared for them.

  • At Bolton Bar, Boa Hancock told Shakky about Sephiroth and asked what love was.
  • Shakky described love, and Boa Hancock, Boa Sandersonia, and Boa Marigold all said they loved Sephiroth.
  • Sephiroth sensed the three sisters returning to the villa while meditating on Observation Haki.
  • The drunken Boa sisters pulled Sephiroth onto the bed, declared their love, and fell asleep holding him.
  • Sephiroth gave up trying to escape and realized he would be deeply saddened if he ever lost the three sisters.

Ch. 15Farewell

Sephiroth and Boa Hancock said goodbye as the Kuja Pirates prepared to leave Junkyard Island. The Perfume Yuda sailed away with Hancock aboard, while Shakky reflected on the danger of facing Garp wherever the crew raided.

  • Boa Hancock asked Sephiroth what he would do if she were captured by the Marines, and he promised he would abandon any position to rescue her.
  • Hancock and Sephiroth made a pinky swear before she ran back to the Perfume Yuda.
  • Shakky teased Sephiroth about his time with the Boa sisters, then thanked him for looking after her crew members.
  • Shakky asked Sephiroth's name, learned he was Karl D. Sephiroth, and boarded the ship as it departed.
  • Hancock watched Sephiroth from the stern and told Shakky she intended to become queen of Amazon Lily and take the captain's position.
  • Shakky privately lamented that Garp's patrols made the Kuja Pirates' captaincy an exhausting job.

Ch. 16Enlisting in the Marines

Sephiroth watched Tom, Franky, and Iceburg test their new Sea Train, then went to a Marine logistics station in the City of Water to enlist. After revealing his Bat Fruit powers, he completed registration and a physical examination, and awaited the review that would determine whether he could begin recruit training at the G-3 Branch.

  • Sephiroth watched the newly built Sea Train run across the sea, and Tom hurled a broken mast through a Sea King Crab that had seized it.
  • Tom thanked Sephiroth for his blueprints, and Sephiroth left for the Marine base at the edge of the City of Water.
  • Sephiroth told the recruiting captain he wanted to enlist, then revealed his Bat Fruit powers to qualify for priority training.
  • Sephiroth filled out the recruitment form and completed a physical examination, learning his strength and speed improved considerably in his transformed form.
  • The captain told Sephiroth that, if his background check cleared, he would join the other recruits at the G-3 Branch in seven days.

Ch. 17Autumn Leaf Blade

Sephiroth bought the Autumn Leaf sword and a live sheep in preparation for Marine recruit training and to replenish the life force he had spent. Before he could pay for the sheep, gunshots rang out as a pirate ship appeared on Commercial Street.

  • Sephiroth visited a weapon shop and chose the Autumn Leaf blade after testing its sharpness, paying 1.5 million Belly.
  • The shop owner offered Sephiroth a revolver, but he refused because he wanted to focus on strengthening his body.
  • Sephiroth went to a market and decided to buy a live sheep so he could extract its life force.
  • Lilith weighed the sheep and told Sephiroth it cost 50,000 Belly.
  • Gunshots erupted on Commercial Street, and panicked people shouted that pirates had arrived.

Ch. 18Pirates Attack

Sephiroth transformed into a vampire and killed the pirates who attacked the mutton shop, but a sniper wounded him as the raid spread across Commercial Street. He realized the pirate ship had reached the City of Water unnoticed and faced an unseen gunman.

  • Andrew Bass shot the blond shopkeeper dead after the young man tried to protect his sister.
  • Sephiroth dragged the blond girl through the back door, took three bullets in the back, and transformed into a vampire.
  • Sephiroth killed two pirates with his Autumn Leaf Blade and beheaded Andrew Bass after the pirate captain split his head into Black Bats.
  • Sephiroth noticed more than forty pirates looting Commercial Street and wondered how their ship had reached the City of Water unnoticed.
  • An unseen sniper shot Sephiroth in the chest, then pierced his left ear despite his attempt to dodge.

Ch. 19Invisible Man

Sephiroth fought the invisible Watson Logan, who tried to recruit him after revealing his armor, pistol, and barbed whip. Sephiroth awakened Observation Haki, killed Watson, and healed his wounds with the Vampire Fruit’s life force.

  • Sephiroth used the sound of Watson Logan’s footsteps to locate him, but Watson’s armor stopped Sephiroth’s sword strike and Watson kicked and whipped him.
  • Watson offered Sephiroth a place as combat captain and threatened to kill him if he refused.
  • Sephiroth lured Watson into a rain-soaked alley and used puddles and sound to estimate his position and find an opening near his face.
  • Sephiroth awakened Observation Haki, dodged Watson’s bullet, and stabbed him through the mouth, killing him.
  • Sephiroth removed the bullets from his body and spent life force to heal his wounds.

Ch. 20The Mysterious Devil Fruit

Sephiroth defeated the Watson Pirates’ leaders and drove off the remaining pirates in City of Water, then searched their ship and found a mysterious Devil Fruit. He kept the unidentified fruit for later study.

  • Sephiroth displayed Watson Logan’s corpse and challenged the Watson Pirates, prompting George Deon to rally the pirates and open fire.
  • Sephiroth evaded the gunfire, cut a bullet in half, and killed George Deon and two more pirates before the rest fled as Marines arrived.
  • A bearded Marine captain recognized Sephiroth, offered to handle the pirate corpses and let him keep the ship’s treasure, and Sephiroth agreed.
  • Sephiroth searched the ship’s Captain’s Cabin, shot open a treasure chest, and found a green, gourd-shaped Devil Fruit in a wooden box.
  • Unable to identify the Devil Fruit, Sephiroth decided to keep it until he could consult a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia.
