"Beat her to death! Beat this Baleful Star to death!"
"Pah! The sight of that disgusting thing on her body makes me furious. Now that she no longer has the Desert Iron Mercenary Group's protection, we might as well kill her and save ourselves the eyesore."
Several young boys and girls kept raining punches and kicks on a figure curled up by the wall. Wracked by pain, the curled-up figure could not stop crying out in agony.
"Move aside! Move aside! You little brats up ahead, stop right now! Our captain has ordered that the Sand Mercenary Group wants this human-snake hybrid. Get lost, all of you."
Following an arrogant shout, more than a dozen burly mercenaries came down from the other end of the alley, led by a sinister-looking man.
Seeing this, the boys and girls immediately scattered, vanishing in an instant.
At that moment, the figure huddled in the corner sobbed and moved aside her small, battered arms that had been shielding her head. Her pale green clothes were already filthy and tattered. Having wandered the streets for several days, her little face was grimy as well, making her look like a tiny beggar.
Though the little beggar's body was petite, she was unusually well-developed. On her dirty oval face were a pair of clear, jade-green eyes. Looking closely into those eyes, one could see three tiny green dots within those jade-green pupils.
Qing Lin opened her clear eyes wide and watched the dozen or so Sand Mercenary Group men approach with ill intent. She was terrified, but the days she had spent sleeping on the streets and suffering endless beatings and curses had left Qing Lin even more afraid.
Qing Lin timidly looked at the people who had come before her. Enduring the pain from her injuries, she supported herself against the wall and stood up, saying fearfully, "My lords, please take Qing Lin in. Qing Lin can work very hard, and she eats very little."
"Hahaha! Look at how pathetic she is. Seems she has taken quite a beating these past few days," one mercenary mocked loudly.
"She deserves to be beaten to death. Who told her to be a human-snake hybrid?"
"Seeing her so miserable has made me feel much better about losing my entire fortune gambling."
"Hehe, why do you think the captain wants us to bring her back? Could it be... the captain likes this sort of thing?"
"You really dare to say that? Watch out, or the captain will slaughter you. But seriously, despite being so young, she has developed quite nicely. Curves in all the right places, and most importantly, she's tender... Brothers, shall we take care of her together tonight?"
"Ah!" Qing Lin's little face turned deathly pale. Scalding tears streamed from her clear eyes as she turned and fled in panic, no longer daring to hope for anything.
"Trying to run? A few of you, go catch her!" Mo Xing waved his hand and roared viciously. He was practically the second-in-command of the Sand Mercenary Group, and as soon as he spoke, several burly mercenaries rushed out.
Poor Qing Lin was covered in injuries. How could she outrun those strong mercenaries? In just a few seconds, they caught up and blocked her path.
"My lords, please let Qing Lin go. Qing Lin promises never to appear in Stone Desert City again."
Qing Lin pleaded timidly. Tears poured down like a stream, and her small body trembled uncontrollably with fear as several ill-intentioned mercenaries cornered her against the wall.
The mercenaries were about to say something else when a thunderous roar rang out.
"Damn it, you trash! Letting scum like you live is a stain on the air itself. Die!"
One of the mercenaries cursed as he turned around, only to see a fist rapidly enlarging before his eyes.
Mu Chen threw a punch, driving the man's facial features into his skull. The tremendous force sent his body flying, where it crashed into and knocked over several companions.
Mu Chen's face was as cold as frost, and he showed no mercy. Like a tiger charging into a flock of sheep, he quickly smashed the heads of every mercenary surrounding Qing Lin. Blood and brains splattered across the walls and ground as several horribly mangled corpses collapsed, filling the air with a thick stench of blood.
Standing atop the corpses, Mu Chen's eyes brimmed with killing intent. Qing Lin's birth had already been an immense tragedy. She had barely survived the calamity of her congenital weakness, only to be scorned by others from the moment she was born and branded a Baleful Star.
Before transmigrating, Mu Chen had already felt pity for this little girl with such a miserable fate. But only after truly meeting her did he understand just how severe Qing Lin's suffering had been.
If he had not arrived in time, who knew what those scum would have done to Qing Lin.
"Who are you? How dare you kill men from my Sand Mercenary Group?"
Mo Xing asked in shock and fury. His gaze fell upon his dead companions on the ground, and their grisly deaths made him shudder uncontrollably. His eyes, when he looked at Mu Chen, were filled with fear and respect.
"Dead men do not deserve to know my name," Mu Chen said coldly. He swept his eyes over Mo Xing and the others, then continued, "Birds of a feather flock together. With garbage like you in it, it is obvious what sort of people the Sand Mercenary Group is made of. It deserves to be wiped out."
After giving them a glance, Mu Chen only wanted to kill them all.
Fast as the wind, Mu Chen swung his powerful fist, its force whipping up a fierce gust. That heavy blow carried irresistible strength, shattering the desperate defenses of several mercenaries and breaking their bones as they howled in agony.
Mu Chen's hand flashed to a mercenary's neck. With a light squeeze, the man's screams abruptly stopped.
In a flash, he leaped up and brought a kick down across a mercenary's shoulder. The man's shoulder bone shattered at once, forcing him to his knees and slamming him against the wall. Mu Chen thrust his toes forward, and a bone-crunching sound rang out. The mercenary spat blood and let his head droop, his neck crushed to pieces.
Crack!
Mu Chen grabbed another mercenary as if he were a chick and crushed his throat. With a casual toss, the corpse rolled to Mo Xing's feet.
"Gulp!" Mo Xing swallowed hard, his heart and courage frozen with terror as cold sweat covered his forehead.
Where did this Baleful Star come from? Even a Nine-Star Dou Zhe could not withstand a single move before having his neck easily crushed.
His strength is too terrifying. He is at least a peak Dou Master. I am absolutely no match for him.
Forcing out an ugly smile, Mo Xing cupped his fists and said respectfully, "Brother, your strength is formidable. We admire you greatly.
"But we bear no grudge against you. Could you please show mercy for the sake of our Sand Mercenary Group captain, Captain Rob, a Four-Star Da Dou Shi, and let this matter go?
"Of course, you are a young hero, Brother. With you protecting Qing Lin, we naturally will not harbor any further thoughts.
"Then we shall take our leave. Farewell..."
Mo Xing decisively abandoned the idea of taking Qing Lin away. What a joke. That Baleful Star was so protective of the hybrid girl; he had no desire to throw his life away.
Was Rob's order more important than his own life? If Rob wanted this hybrid, he could come himself.
Mu Chen shot Mo Xing a cutting glance and said icily, "Heh. I seem to have said that all of you must die."
As he stamped the ground, a burst of force erupted instantly, shattering the clods of sand and dirt all around him. Mu Chen shot toward Mo Xing and the remaining survivors like an arrow released from a bow.
Mo Xing, who had been on guard all along, immediately changed expression. He grabbed a mercenary beside him and, amid the man's terrified cries, hurled him at the rapidly approaching Mu Chen.
Mu Chen snorted coldly, swiftly leaping into the air. He stomped down hard, crushing the thrown man's head. After landing, he did not slow down and continued charging toward Mo Xing.
Mo Xing's face went pale. Just as he prepared to throw the last remaining mercenary at Mu Chen, that man suddenly accelerated and ran even faster than Mo Xing.
"You fucking bastard, go die yourself!"
Mo Xing spat out a bloody tooth fragment. Feeling as though the foot on his back weighed a thousand pounds, he hurriedly begged, "Brother—no, my lord, spare my life."
"I said all of you must die!"
