Background / History
Pharmacist of Qing Mountain Town
Xiao Yi Xian spent years at Wanyao Pavilion and became a highly regarded pharmacist through perseverance, despite lacking the innate attributes necessary for alchemy. Her medical care earned her considerable goodwill among Qing Mountain Town’s mercenaries 7 11 27.
Before understanding her constitution, she suffered increasingly frequent poison episodes. She concealed herself in a dark room during these attacks and endured the pain alone. Hoping to improve her poison resistance, she sought the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture in a cave she had discovered while gathering herbs 5 6.
Cliffside Cave Expedition
During a herb-gathering expedition into the Magic Beast Mountains, Xiao Yi Xian treated three mercenaries bitten by Scarlet Ice Snakes. Mu Chen then protected her from a Snake-Tail Leopard, sustaining an injury that she tended afterward 4 5.
Mu Chen followed her to the hidden cliffside cave, where they cooperated to explore its stone chamber. She identified valuable herbs and warned him about mechanisms inside the treasure boxes. Their division of the treasures gave her the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture and most of the medicinal herbs 6 7 8.
Their exploration was interrupted by Mu Li, who had obtained the cave’s location from Xiao Yi Xian’s assistant and friend, Lifi. Xiao Yi Xian supplied Sleeping Powder for their defense and warned that climbing the ropes would expose them to an ambush. Instead, she summoned her Blue Eagle, Xiao Lan, allowing them to escape after Mu Chen killed their attackers 9 10 11.
Despite Mu Chen’s warning about retaliation, she returned to the herb-gathering team and Wanyao Pavilion out of gratitude to its owner, Master Yao. Before parting, she kissed Mu Chen on the cheek and urged him not to return to town until he became a Dou Master 11.
Poison Outbreak and Exile
Mu She attempted to capture Xiao Yi Xian and force her into a ghost marriage with his dead son, Mu Li. Cornered, she swallowed poison from the scripture, triggering an outbreak that killed Mu She—a Two-Star Dou Master—and more than fifty members of the Wolf Head Mercenary Group 23.
The townspeople turned against her, including people whose lives she had saved. Master Yao publicly severed Wanyao Pavilion’s ties with her. When Mu Zhuo arrived with imperial troops to capture her, she prepared poison powders and resolved to detonate her poisonous Qi rather than submit 23 24.
Mu Chen intervened, defeated her persecutors, and openly accepted her despite knowing about the Woeful Poison Body. She agreed to leave Qing Mountain Town with him, first taking him to her secluded medicinal-herb valley 24 25 26.
Poison Cultivation and Jun Chenxi
In the valley, Mu Chen offered to absorb her poisonous gas so that she would no longer need to swallow poison to relieve her suffering. Xiao Yi Xian nevertheless chose poison cultivation as a means of gaining the strength to protect herself. Mu Chen accepted her decision and helped her practice using Dou Qi during their ten-day stay 26 27.
After leaving, she learned from Mu Chen that the Poison Core Method could prevent her constitution’s fatal backlash. Their journey was interrupted by Jun Chenxi, a Dou Venerate who rendered Xiao Yi Xian unconscious and claimed her as a disciple 29 30.
Jun Chenxi took her through a spatial gate as part of a five-year agreement with Mu Chen. Xiao Yi Xian would inherit her legacy, while her safety served as leverage to make Mu Chen help control Jun Chenxi’s poison. Jun Chenxi warned that her disciple might face a poison-body crisis in less than five years 31.
Appearance
Xiao Yi Xian is introduced with clear, ethereal beauty and an elegant, orchid-like bearing 3.
- Clothing: A pale white dress 3 23.
- Hair: Long, dark hair flowing like a waterfall 3.
- Build: A slender, willow-like waist 3.
- Face: Fair, jade-like skin and a habitual gentle smile 3.
- Poison-outbreak changes: Her eyes become brilliantly seven-colored while purple-black gas gathers around her 23.
Personality
Initially gentle and compassionate, Xiao Yi Xian treats injured mercenaries and remains considerate even when exhausted. Her gratitude toward Master Yao is strong enough that she returns to Wanyao Pavilion despite the risk of retaliation 4 11.
Betrayal and persecution change her attitude toward strength. She still longs for kindness, but concludes that kindness alone cannot deter those who would harm her. Her decision to cultivate through poison is deliberate: she refuses to surrender a rare opportunity for power merely to preserve Mu Chen’s ideal image of her 26.
Around Mu Chen, she is affectionate but easily embarrassed. She answers his teasing with sharp retorts, threats, and bites when he takes liberties. She also worries about poisoning him and respects his decision to keep the source of his knowledge secret 7 11 26 29.
Abilities & Skills
Medicine and Herbal Knowledge
Xiao Yi Xian is an accomplished pharmacist, rather than an established alchemist 7 27.
- Treats the Cold Poison inflicted by Scarlet Ice Snakes; her patients must avoid fighting while the medicine takes effect 4.
- Recognizes medicinal ingredients including Purple Blue Leaf, White Spirit Ginseng Fruit, Snow Lotus Seed, and Ice Spirit Flame Grass 7.
- Detects the lingering scent of burned herbs in Mu Chen’s medicinal cauldron 27.
- Lacks the trace of Wood Attribute required for alchemy. Her original Fire Attribute begins fading toward a pure Poison Attribute after her constitution awakens 27.
Poison Preparation
Her skill at concocting poisons exceeds her early ability to fight with Dou Qi 24.
- Sleeping Powder: Supplies it to Mu Chen to incapacitate attackers in the cave 9.
- Heart-Eroding Powder: Can kill a Dou Master who carelessly inhales too much 24.
- Travel preparation: Plans to obtain unusual poisons and antidotes in Black Rock City before entering Snake-People territory 29.
- Limit: Awakening the Woeful Poison Body does not make her immune to every poison; sufficiently strong toxins can still threaten her life 29.
Woeful Poison Body
The Woeful Poison Body converts poison consumption into rapid cultivation growth, with stronger poisons producing greater gains 23 26.
- Releases lethal poisonous gas; her first major outbreak kills opponents far above her own cultivation rank 23.
- Can poison another person through physical contact after awakening 24.
- Continually produces poisonous gas, causing pain and risking loss of control 26.
- Eventually suffers fatal backlash if accumulated poison exceeds what the bearer can restrain 29.
- Mu Chen can absorb her poisonous Qi through his Origin Qi Manipulation Art, offering relief without requiring further poison consumption 24 26.
The Poison Core Method offers a way to control the poisonous Dou Qi, but its use on Xiao Yi Xian is not shown 29.
| Required Component | Details |
|---|---|
| Three different Heavenly Flames | The most difficult requirement 29 |

Mechanism Recognition
