Root Headquarters
The dark basement, lit by dim yellow candlelight, felt especially sinister. Danzo sat in the seat of honor, his face utterly cold.
"Chasuke, how did the mission go?"
"Reporting, sir, I have successfully gained the target's trust." A Root member knelt on one knee before Danzo and replied expressionlessly.
"Very good..." Danzo tapped his fingers against the armrest, then continued, "Don't botch this mission. As long as you kill that brat according to the plan, I, Danzo, promise that I'll make you captain of a Root Squad."
"Yes, sir!" As Chasuke answered, a vicious glint flashed through his eyes.
Danzo's sinister laughter echoed through the cramped basement as he watched Chasuke disappear.
Tsunade, Tsunade! Don't blame me. You were the one who didn't know your place, so you have no one else to blame. The Thousand Hands Clan has already declined. It's time for you to leave the stage as well.
Hirata Casino!
The clamor of gamblers, the clattering of dice, and the dealers calling the results came from every direction.
Amid the smoke-filled air, Feng Xun could not help frowning.
"Brat, what's gotten into you? You actually dared bring me to a casino on your own?" Tsunade stood with her hands on her hips, staring suspiciously at Feng Xun as though afraid he was up to no good.
In response, Feng Xun shook the money pouch in his hand and said unconcernedly, "If you're scared, we can go back. I won't lose anything anyway."
In truth, he wanted to repay Nawaki for what he had said earlier. That was why he had dragged Tsunade to the casino the moment she returned.
Fortunately, he had less than ten thousand yuan on him. Even if Tsunade squandered every last bit of it, it would not hurt too badly.
"Hmph, who would be afraid of a brat who hasn't even grown all his hair yet?" Tsunade snatched the money pouch away and strode over to a dice table.
"Well, if it isn't our famous Fat Sheep Princess. Haven't seen you in quite a while."
"Wonder whether Fat Sheep Princess brought enough money today."
"Fat Sheep Princess doesn't look too well. Want us to give you a few rounds?"
The moment Tsunade arrived at the table, the gamblers, who were already extremely familiar with her, began teasing her.
"Hmph, you bunch of bastards! Today, I'll beat every last one of you until you piss your pants."
As she spoke, Tsunade poured a handful of coins from the pouch. "I'm betting big."
Upon hearing that, the gamblers all placed their wagers on small. Besides them, a few scattered people placed their bets on triples.
After thinking for a moment, Feng Xun, who stood behind Tsunade, pulled out three coins from his pocket and placed one of them on small.
Since he had already provided the capital, there was nothing wrong with riding Tsunade's "good fortune."
The dealer shaking the dice glanced at the wagers before him and called loudly, "No more bets! Open!!!"
"Three, three, four. Ten points. Big!"
Big?
The dealer's result left not only Feng Xun dumbfounded, but also the gamblers beside him staring wide-eyed in disbelief.
"How could it be big?"
"Yeah, Fat Sheep Princess clearly bet on big. Did I see it wrong?"
"A coincidence. This has to be a coincidence."
"Quit yammering, you lot. Hand over the money already."
Seeing the obvious resentment on everyone's faces, Tsunade was overjoyed. She felt that her luck had finally turned around today.
"Hmph, again, again! Today, I'm going to sweep the board." With that, Tsunade grandly stretched out her hand and placed all the money she had just won back onto big.
Though everyone hesitated this time, they still did not believe that a fat sheep like Tsunade could suddenly become lucky. Thus, they once again placed their money on small.
Feng Xun, standing to the side, did not believe it either, so he placed his second coin on small.
Yet the dealer's result was unexpected once again.
"Three, five, six. Fourteen points. Still big."
The game continued. Feng Xun's three coins had long since been completely wiped out, while Tsunade had returned not only the capital he had lent her, but the winnings as well. In her words—
My luck has turned around. I don't need your pathetic "relief funds."
Feng Xun said nothing in response. He was more than happy with that arrangement.
By then, most of the people in the casino had gathered around. They all wanted to see how long Tsunade, the legendary fat sheep, could keep winning.
Seeing the nearly ten million in assets on Tsunade's side of the table, Feng Xun tugged at her sleeve and advised, "Crazy woman, quit while you're ahead. Don't keep going."
"Shoo, shoo. My luck is at its peak right now. How can I go back just like that?" Tsunade waved him off and flatly rejected his suggestion. She then once again placed all of her nearly ten million in assets on big.
Across from her, a large group of wealthy gamblers who refused to believe it placed their money on small.
Yet when the dealer finally revealed the dice, everyone was left stunned. "Three, three, three. Triples!"
An outcome no one had expected abruptly appeared on the table. Including Tsunade, none of the gamblers came back to their senses for quite some time.
Watching tens of millions vanish into the casino's coffers in an instant, Feng Xun finally understood.
Based on his belated deduction, the reason Tsunade's luck had become so good from the very beginning was simply because the dealer before them had been manipulating the game behind the scenes.
He had deliberately made Tsunade, known as a fat sheep, appear incredibly lucky in order to attract more gamblers who refused to believe it into betting against her. Once the amount wagered by both sides reached the figure the dealer wanted, he would sweep all the money into the casino's hands in one go.
So casinos really were all scams. Feng Xun curled his lip, feeling even more disgusted by gambling.
Feng Xun was not the only one who had figured out the key to it. The seasoned gamblers at the table had caught on as well.
Yet although they were resentful, they did not dare say much. After all, they had not caught the dealer red-handed. Making baseless accusations could very well get them thrown out of the casino.
At that moment, Tsunade came up to Feng Xun and held out her hand again. "Brat, hurry up and give me back the money I just gave you."
"No!" Feng Xun replied firmly.
What a joke. Since he had already guessed the casino's scheme, what would he be if he still handed the money over to Tsunade other than an idiot?
With a cold expression, Feng Xun grabbed Tsunade by the arm and silently dragged her toward the casino exit.
"Hey! You damned brat, what are you doing? I'm not done playing yet! Give me the money already!"
Tsunade shouted as Feng Xun dragged her along, but Feng Xun could not be bothered to pay her any attention now.
