Background / History

The Sarkaz are closely tied to Originium: Theresis states that stronger Sarkaz generally have higher infection levels, and that Sarkaz are nearly born integrated with Originium. He describes death as their destiny. 16

Many Sarkaz live as mercenaries or scavengers. Their history of harsh conditions and continual warfare has made them resilient soldiers able to endure environments requiring less logistical support than other armies. Entertainment, however, is treated as a luxury unfamiliar to much of the race. 18 24

During the Londinium occupation, Theresis uses Chen Qi's Yes, Prime Minister to undermine Victorian confidence while exposing political failures for the Sarkaz to study. The series becomes a major shared experience among Sarkaz soldiers, officers, and Royal Court figures, who begin applying its lessons to ideas for Kazdel's future government. 17 24 32

Following Chen Qi's completion of the series, Theresis leads a Sarkaz legion to escort him out of Londinium rather than detain him. He later publicly grants Chen Qi the Royal Court Covenant, recognizing him as the Sarkaz's first foreign friend and placing the race's protection behind him. 38 40 42
