Lin Ye is a time traveler present at Gol D. Roger's execution in Loguetown. After absorbing Roger's Haki and Divine Departure, he gains a Golden Finger capable of collecting and upgrading “Entries” from the dead. He resolves to seek powerful deaths in order to grow stronger 1.

During his early rise, Lin Ye joins Gecko Moria's crew but treats pirate battles primarily as opportunities to harvest Blank Entries. He conceals most of his abilities, relying publicly on swordsmanship and Armament Haki while accumulating power in secret 5. His rapid growth allows him to defeat Kozuki Oden with little difficulty and force Kaido into retreat after a prolonged clash 19 39.
