The man did not answer, instead changing the subject. "That old bastard you mentioned has arrived. What do you plan to do?"
A cold gleam flashed through Yu Xiaofeng's eyes. Suppressing the impulse in his heart, he said to the man, "Do you have any mechanisms here? I plan to have him rescue me."
"Also, he used me as bait, so he must have another purpose. I think he wants to know why all the Body Spirits on the continent have disappeared."
"After so many years, there must be some ancient records about it, and he desperately wants to verify what those records say."
The man nodded. "I was planning to have him rescue you as well. That way, everything will fall into place naturally."
"There should be ancient records, but I have no idea what they contain. You can probe him."
"You can start shouting now. I'll guide him over."
Yu Xiaofeng said, "Don't let him get in too easily. Otherwise, he won't come a second time."
The man smiled. "The people at the entrance are already fighting him, though a victor will be decided soon. This is only a branch hall. Old Fang and the others have already left, and the strongest person here is merely a Soul Douluo."
Yu Xiaofeng stared at the pitch-black space in astonishment. Suddenly, the space began shrinking, and he found himself chained to the wall.
Piles of bones gradually emerged from the ground. Dim lamps suddenly lit up one after another, making Yu Xiaofeng, who had been in darkness all this time, feel somewhat unaccustomed.
Many murals appeared on the walls, their contents blurry and impossible to make out. Suddenly, a powerful light flashed, and Qian Daoliu's figure appeared within the murals.
Already weakened, Yu Xiaofeng slumped to the ground and called out feebly, "Grandpa Qian?"
Yu Xiaofeng's voice was faint, yet it carried outside...
"Was that Xiaofeng's voice?"
After launching an attack, Qian Daoliu turned toward the wall on the right side of the hall. His strike happened to send a Soul Douluo flying into the lever on a skeletal throne. With a crack, the throne's armrest shattered, and the wall on the right rumbled as it slowly rose upward.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A large amount of rubble fell down. Without a second thought, Qian Daoliu rushed inside. Howling winds echoed through the long tunnel, and he noticed that the murals on both sides seemed to record something indistinctly.
When he saw a giant with a body as sturdy as an ox, he hurriedly returned to the entrance. His old face scrunched together so tightly that his features became unrecognizable, and he stammered incoherently, "I knew it, I knew it. All of this is real."
Qian Daoliu cried out, trembling with excitement. In one mural, a black-robed man chopped off a human's legs. After the legs were severed, a mass of something appeared.
Qian Daoliu pressed himself against the wall and moved to the right, his eyes never leaving it. When he looked at the second mural, the object had been delivered by the black-robed man to a tall man.
The tall man took out a crystal ball and sucked the object into it. After absorbing it, the crystal ball gave off a dazzling light.
The man opened his mouth with a sinister grin and swallowed the crystal ball whole.
After swallowing the crystal ball, the man appeared to be in immense pain. In the blink of an eye, he died on the spot, his body instantly exploding apart.
The sight made Qian Daoliu's heart tremble. "That's more like it. How could it possibly succeed on the first try?"
"If it were so easy to transplant a Body Spirit onto someone else, how could Body Spirits be so pitifully rare on Douluo Continent?"
"Keep looking."
As Qian Daoliu muttered to himself, he looked toward the fourth mural. Its scene was the same as before: everyone had exploded and died. The murals had also reached their end.
Qian Daoliu said unwillingly, "How could none of them succeed?"
"Impossible. There must be some hidden secret."
Qian Daoliu returned to the entrance and looked at the wall on the right. The orderly rows of armies and scenes of slaughter depicted there shocked him.
When he saw the final image, there were several lines of small writing beneath it.
Body Spirit Transplantation required the Body Spirit's owner to reach at least level eighty. A level-eightieth Body Spirit would then achieve a balance with the original martial spirit, producing the effect of twin martial spirits.
By this point, Qian Daoliu's blood was surging, his breathing becoming rapid. His eyes continued downward, where it read:
A Body Spirit required a certain probability of success. To achieve perfect compatibility, one had to reach at least level ninety-nine...
The writing ended there. A large section of the wall was missing, and Qian Daoliu was so furious that he howled repeatedly.
"Who was it? Who?"
Qian Daoliu roared for a long while before finally sighing. "After so many years, it's only natural that part of it was lost. If it had been preserved intact, this temple probably would not still exist."
"It seems this temple is only a branch hall. Otherwise, I wouldn't have failed to see the people who kidnapped Yu Xiaofeng earlier."
"There must be a main hall."
Qian Daoliu stated this with certainty.
At this moment, Yu Xiaofeng watched the images displayed on the wall and sneered inwardly. Body Spirit Transplantation?
What utter nonsense.
The man then said to Yu Xiaofeng, "Do you think it's utter nonsense too?"
Yu Xiaofeng asked in surprise, "Isn't it?"
The man said, "It truly exists. I did not build this temple. Back then, their master awakened me through a sacrificial ritual. Only after I descended did I learn of everything."
"They were the Soulless Clan, a group of people who did not belong to this continent. They possessed powerful soul skills, yet they had no martial spirits."
"They could not break through their own limits and achieve what they called ascension to the Immortal Realm."
"So they decided to intermarry with the people of Douluo Continent. Gradually, they gave birth to a new kind of human. Yet those humans had a flaw: every child they bore possessed a martial spirit that was merely a hazy, indistinct mass."
"As time passed, Body Spirits began to appear on Douluo Continent."
Yu Xiaofeng said in astonishment, "You're saying that Body Spirits came from the descendants of the Soulless Clan?"
The man said, "That's right. Every owner of a Body Spirit on Douluo Continent is a descendant of the Soulless Clan."
"Of course, there may be exceptions. After all, you are not one of the Soulless Clan."
Yu Xiaofeng was startled inwardly. He was a transmigrator, so naturally he could not be a descendant of the Soulless Clan.
Qian Daoliu was now feeling along the wall, trying to find some sort of mechanism and see whether there was another path.
As Yu Xiaofeng watched this scene, the man's voice sounded in his ear again.
"Through their own efforts, the Soulless Clan tempered their bodies to such a powerful extent that they could rival gods."
"But they gradually discovered that they had no soul rings. No matter what kind of martial spirit from Douluo Continent they combined with, the children they bore could not break through to level ten."
"Yet even without being able to break through level ten, their strength still remained at the very peak of Douluo Continent."
