Ch. 281King Mu of Zhou bestowed a title, Jiang Ziya appeared
Plot points and events
- King Mu of Zhou credits the Demon God with saving his life and bestows on him the title Supreme Demon God of the Primordial Beginning. Later generations reinterpret the event as a sacrifice that helped King Mu defeat rival tribes. King Mu then lives a long, comfortable life, becoming known for his healthy habits.
- Jiang Ziya, now an elderly, solitary guardian, has spent centuries keeping the Ancient Gods sealed away. These gods once fed on the terror and suffering of human sacrifices, and they taunt him as his strength fails.
- As Jiang Ziya collapses, Ye Zhuo arrives, restores his vitality, and destroys the imprisoned Ancient Gods, erasing them from the minds of their worshippers so they can no longer receive sacrifices.
- Ye Zhuo gives Jiang Ziya genuine alchemy methods, the Great Golden Immortal Art, and transformation arts. Jiang Ziya returns the God-Beating Whip and resolves to cultivate and seek people suited to serve humanity.
- The quest system confirms Jiang Ziya has passed his trial and sends Ye Zhuo to the final years of Great Shang, where King Zhou is being influenced by the Ancient Gods. Ye Zhuo’s new task is to take Daji away and strengthen King Zhou’s resolve; the reward is a powerful spatial technique.
Character developments
- Ye Zhuo remains confused by the story and by Jiang Ziya’s devotion, but acts decisively to save him and eliminate the Ancient Gods. He also discovers that the old and new God-Beating Whips are identical apart from their age.
- Jiang Ziya is revealed as a long-suffering protector who has endured centuries of the incense faith that sustains him, despite its risks. Restored to youth, he is deeply moved to see Ye Zhuo again and recommits himself to humanity’s future.
- King Mu of Zhou is portrayed as a grateful ruler whose reverence for the Demon God becomes part of later myth.
