Background

Medusa rules the Snake-People Tribe from its Holy City in the Tagor Desert. Though stronger than the Four Great Elders, she respects their authority and does not openly defy them in council. Her primary concern is the tribe’s future: she considers the desert unsuitable as a permanent homeland and believes a Dou Zong powerhouse is necessary to protect the tribe from outside forces such as the Heavenly Snake Mansion. 12 23 24

Before meeting Mo Yun, Medusa attempted to seize the Azure Lotus Core Flame by force and was apparently injured in the process, leaving behind a Seven-Colored Scale near the flame. 10

When Mo Yun takes the Azure Lotus platform and lotus seeds, Medusa confronts him. She initially attacks him due to her hatred of humans, but notices his Azure Snake Three-Blossom Pupil and spares him. She declares him a member of the Snake-People Tribe, later accepting his formal entry into the tribe. 10 11 12

After Lü Man threatens the tribe with the Heavenly Snake Mansion’s Dou Zong-level elders, Medusa’s determination to break her bloodline’s Dou Huang bottleneck intensifies. The Great Elders oppose the danger of the Strange Fire evolution method, fearing that her death would leave the tribe without its queen. 19 22 23 24

The elders subsequently arrange for Mo Yun to be considered in their plan to continue the Medusa bloodline, using his Azure Snake Three-Blossom Pupil and its ancient beast bloodline connection as justification. Medusa resists the arrangement and resents the elders’ interference with her autonomy. 24 25 27 28

Ignoring the elders’ earlier caution, Medusa proceeds with the Strange Fire evolution ritual. She is engulfed by the Azure Lotus Core Flame in her Purple Nether Flame Snake form and seemingly reduced to ashes, but ultimately survives through her symbiotic beast’s ancestral reversion. 28 29 30 31

Medusa is cold, proud, and intensely hostile toward humans at first. Her presence can immobilize weaker beings through sheer pressure; even the Two-Headed Fire Spirit Snake cowers before her. 11

Behind her arrogance, she is deeply responsible for the Snake-People Tribe. Her pursuit of Dou Zong is motivated not only by personal ambition but by a desire to secure a safer homeland and prevent powerful outside factions from threatening her people. 23 24

She is fiercely protective of those she considers under her authority. When Lü Man attempts to take Mo Yun and Qing Lin, Medusa destroys the Wood Prison confining them, confronts the intruders, and insists that Mo Yun remain with her tribe. 18 19 20

Medusa is also stubborn and willing to take extreme risks. Despite the elders’ warnings, she chooses to attempt evolution with the Azure Lotus Core Flame rather than remain trapped at the peak of Dou Huang. 24 28 29
