Background / History

Ji Quanzhen is an elderly Qingcheng Quanzhen Daoist and the head of the Southwest Security Administration Branch. Having lived for more than a century, he resisted several foreign crises since the founding of the nation. Though physically unimposing and under 1.7 meters tall, he achieved the Clairvoyant Realm through Spirit refinement and Qi cultivation, becoming one of the region’s foremost protectors 157.

His cultivation diverges from the Martial Dao: he believes the physical body is finite while the spirit is limitless, and pursues spiritual transcendence and eternal life. He spent thirty years studying Daoist scriptures and ninety years in meditation and Qi cultivation before attaining Jade Flesh Immortal Bones at roughly one hundred years old 157 159.

While traveling during a period of national turmoil roughly seventy to eighty years earlier, Ji Quanzhen found a surviving Buddhist text in a temple destroyed by pirates. He later rendered the text into colloquial language and passed it to Lu Ren as the Ten-Realm Mahayana Golden Body Bodhisattva Path 159 160.

At Mount Qingcheng, he confronted the otherworldly cultivator Zhuo Feng. Assuming the image of the Antarctic Longevity Great Emperor, Ji Quanzhen manifested the Zhenting domain and froze Zhuo Feng to death, though the exertion rapidly returned him to his aged appearance 164 165.

Years later, Ji Quanzhen joined Lu Ren in excavating Sun Wukong’s sealed tomb. Sun Wukong’s lingering curse gradually remade Ji Quanzhen into an ape-like backup body and altered his cognition so thoroughly that he initially believed himself to have always been a spirit monkey 388 401. He ultimately retained his memories and primary consciousness, choosing to treat the transformation as an opportunity rather than surrender to it 401 412.

Appearance

Ji Quanzhen originally appears as a short, lean, slightly stooped old Daoist with white hair and an outwardly unremarkable presence. His appearance changes drastically when he uses high-level spiritual techniques or after Sun Wukong’s curse takes hold.

  • In his ordinary elderly form, he dresses in broad Daoist robes and supports himself with a slightly hunched posture 157.
  • Jade Flesh Immortal Bones can restore him to the body of an eighteen-year-old, with smooth skin, renewed teeth, and jade-like limbs 159.
  • When manifesting the Antarctic Longevity Great Emperor, he becomes a refined, handsome middle-aged man in an imperial robe, surrounded by purple-gold arcs and Emperor Qi 164 393.
  • His Ape Body is covered in dense brownish-yellow fur, with elongated arms, a tail, and agile ape-like movement 400 412.

Personality

Ji Quanzhen is eccentric, theatrical, and intensely devoted to Spirit refinement. He speaks of abandoning flesh for eternal spiritual existence with fervent conviction, to the point that Lu Ren considers his fixation dangerously extreme 157.

Despite this fanaticism, he is perceptive, intellectually curious, and protective of humanity. He studies ancient tombs, dimensional phenomena, biology, and modern technology in search of methods to prepare Huaxia for returning Celestial Gods and other threats 388 389 414.

He has a teasing, informal rapport with Lu Ren and is capable of humor, vanity, and enthusiasm. After becoming an ape, he grows increasingly pleased with his fur and enthusiastically imagines the possibilities of becoming Sun Wukong 380 401.

Abilities & Skills

Spirit Refinement and Magnetic-Field Control

Ji Quanzhen’s primary path is Spirit Qi cultivation. His powerful Spirit directly disturbs and manipulates magnetic fields, allowing him to impose illusions and influence those within his range.

  • Creates mirage-like visions of celestial palaces, gods, and vast divine figures 157.
  • Exerts spiritual pressure strong enough to affect Lu Ren’s Spirit and passively increase his Spirit Proficiency 157.
  • Establishes a domain-like environment that can calm people and accelerate cultivation for compatible practitioners 157 176.
  • Perceives the world as interwoven seas of colored magnetic fields and a deeper spiritual layer beyond ordinary sight 164.

Jade Flesh Immortal Bones

A Daoist divine ability accessible to Enlightened Quanzhen cultivators of the Clairvoyant Realm.

  • Absorbs and disperses the force of powerful physical attacks through his muscles 158 159.
  • Uses Qi and magnetic-field harmonization to cultivate the illusory into the real 158.
  • Rejuvenates his body, restoring youth, smooth skin, and renewed vitality 159.
  • Cannot be readily taught to outsiders; Ji Quanzhen states that even Lu Ren could not simply learn it 159.

Antarctic Longevity Great Emperor Seal

Ji Quanzhen’s core cultivation method and greatest known spiritual manifestation.

  • Assumes the form and aura of the Antarctic Longevity Great Emperor 164.
  • Produces an imperial Dharma form, celestial palaces, divine attendants, and a heavenly court illusion 164 165.
  • Activates Zhenting, transforming the surrounding environment into a white-jade celestial domain 165.
  • Reverses an enemy’s vitality into deathly stillness, freezing Zhuo Feng and reducing him to ice fragments 165.
  • Places severe strain on Ji Quanzhen, causing rapid aging after major use 165.

Ape Body and Staff Technique

Sun Wukong’s curse transformed Ji Quanzhen into an ape-like body while leaving his consciousness fundamentally intact.
