Sirius Black woke in a daze at the campsite the next day. What had happened to him last night?

He seemed to remember planning to sneak into Hogwarts. Honestly, all he had wanted was to find that damned traitor and give him trouble.

Then he had run into a student who was up late...

If only he could do it over. Next time, he would wait until History of Magic class. Kids these days surely slept more soundly through that than they did in the early hours of the morning.

He struggled to his feet and looked around. Since he was at this campsite, Grindelwald must have been the one who saved him.

Grindelwald did not seem to be here, though. Sirius would thank him when he got back.

Sirius sat on a tree stump, hugged his knees, and settled in to wait quietly for Grindelwald to return from hunting.

How did that saying go? Nothing was more handsome than a man who could hunt.

He waited until the following evening.

He was still sitting alone on the stump. Evidently, the moment Grindelwald and Dumbledore met, things had grown intense,

they had lost themselves, and nothing else had mattered. Dumbledore had remembered to take Grindelwald back to the Headmaster's Office, but had conveniently overlooked Sirius and left him at the campsite.

Perhaps Grindelwald had told Dumbledore the truth behind the Sirius Black affair. Perhaps Dumbledore had known all along.

Or perhaps neither was the reason, and Dumbledore simply thought the term would be a little dull without Sirius Black.

Whatever the case, the two old lovebirds had abandoned Sirius at the campsite. Unlike that lonely place, where not even the wind made a sound, the Great Hall at Hogwarts was bustling.
