Background

Kane escaped the Eternal Realm before arriving in the Muggle world. After his escape, a shadow attached itself to him, leaving him with stolen Shadow Authority and drawing attacks from Shadow Monsters sent to reclaim it 4.

The Dursleys took Kane in for approximately a month. Although he remained grateful for their shelter, he refused to tolerate their emotional abuse and left the household, supporting himself by performing shadow-based magic tricks for Muggles 1 2.
