Another day dawned. Sirius Black seemed to be trapped in some bizarre time loop, one that reset whenever he reached a certain point.
That point was Kane. Whenever he encountered the boy, he would return to a very familiar starting point: this camp.
Of course, it wasn't actually a time loop. Sirius Black had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong identity, and walked straight into Kane's line of fire.
Although his plan to talk to Kane had fallen through yet again, he had at least confirmed one important thing.
This young wizard named Kane might genuinely mean him no harm... Perhaps this bizarre behavior was the result of some prior arrangement with Dumbledore or Lupin, combined with a few strange plans.
As for which of them it was...
Sirius Black leaned more toward Lupin. He didn't think Dumbledore trusted him all that much.
That worked out nicely. Kane wasn't just rude; the young wizard also had something of a violent streak. Trying to communicate with him was a nightmare, but Lupin was a different story.
Tomorrow night was the full moon. Although Lupin had become a professor, neither he nor Dumbledore would want Hogwarts suddenly filled with dreadful howling in the middle of the night.
That left Lupin with only one option: the Shrieking Shack.
Having worked it all out, Sirius Black transformed into a dog and trotted toward the Shrieking Shack, a place he knew all too well.
He intended to lie in wait.
And so he waited until the following evening.
Since Professor Trelawney's syllabus included moonlight divination, she would select one lucky year group whenever the moon was full and give them exclusive use of the moonlight for their lesson.
