Dining at a Rival's House
Gu Lin walked over and helped him undo his coat. "There's actually no need for this."
As he spoke, he smoothed the wrinkles from the suit with his hand, draped it over his arm, and looked at him. "We're legally married too." Then he raised a hand to straighten Lin Su's crooked tie.
"Let's wait a little longer." Lin Su's voice was soft and soothing. "We still need the right timing."
It wasn't that he was wary of the old man. Since he'd agreed to be together, that meant he was prepared to face things together.
It was just better to take things step by step.
Gu Lin heard every word clearly. He had thought Lin Su was wary of his nominal grandfather, but it turned out he had been narrow-minded.
The corners of his lips lifted as he gazed intently at Lin Su and said softly, "All right."
"Get back to work." With that, he turned and hung the clothes on the rack.
Gu Lin seemed to have become even more cheerful after he said that. Lin Su sat down and pondered his own words, yet he could not figure it out. Out of the corner of his eye, he secretly glanced at Gu Lin, who had already returned to work.
It was probably just his imagination.
Lin Su lowered his head to check the time on his watch, failing to notice someone's faintly upturned lips. By the time Lin Su looked up again, Gu Lin's expression had long since gone flat.
Yesterday had delayed them for half a day. Once he turned on his computer, Lin Su checked his inbox first, but after looking through it for quite a while, he found nothing unusual.
He casually opened the document beside him, took a fountain pen from the pen holder, and prepared to review and approve it.
Just then, a chat window popped up. When he saw those familiar two characters, Lin Su frowned.
Honestly, this was a serious lack of boundaries. Using an injury as an excuse to keep getting close to him was truly irritating, especially when the purpose behind that injury seemed far from innocent.
Han Jin: Brother Su, how about we have lunch together?
Han Jin: I just ordered some groceries. I'll wait for you.
Han Jin: You don't have to reply. You're busy.
The words appeared to ask for his consent, but in truth, Han Jin had already made the decision for him. Lin Su pressed his lips together, his fingers stroking the fountain pen.
All it would take was a surveillance camera, but he did not think there was any need to expose him. At least this was a dignified way to handle things. Now, though...
Go. Take this chance to make things clear to him.
With that thought, he tapped a few keys. The movement drew Gu Lin's attention.
Uh, I got caught slacking off.
He calmly looked away, pretending nothing had happened, and wanted to lower his head and continue working. It was not a good time to say it now. He would tell him after he finished up.
"I'll go with you at noon."
Lin Su looked up at that, only to see Gu Lin lower his head again and stop looking at him. After a brief pause, he murmured, "He happened to invite us for lunch, so there's no need to ask for leave. Registering at the emergency room will be faster."
Gu Lin's hand, which held the pen, paused. A smile touched his lips. "All right. I'll drive."
The conversation ended, and the two returned to work.
They had finished coordinating with the various departments that morning, and most of the documents had been handled as well. Other than the ones Xiao Jiang and the others still needed to submit for a second approval, things were more or less done.
He liked this feeling—getting the most important work of the day done in the morning, then waiting for the boss's instructions in the afternoon and, if possible, slacking off a little.
"Let's go."
Gu Lin had just finished the work at hand as well, and he walked straight to the coat rack to retrieve his suit jacket.
The two of them walked out without trying to hide anything. It was just about time to get off work, and quite a few people were taking the elevator downstairs for lunch.
Right in front of everyone in the elevator, Gu Lin pressed the button for level -1. It was obvious that they were heading out again.
Xiao Jiang and the others happened to be in the elevator. The three exchanged glances, then tacitly picked up their phones.
'Assistant Office Three Musketeers'
Xiao Jiang: I'd say there's an eighty percent chance something happened to Little Rose. Assistant Lin is driving President Gu there~
Xiao Zeng: Maybe they have an appointment with some client!
Xiao Jiang: If a client came to the company, the boss would go first.
Xiao Wang: It could be an important client.
Xiao Jiang: You have to believe me. As a Beta with insanely sharp intuition, there's absolutely something fishy going on here.
Xiao Zeng, Xiao Wang: ...
Naturally, Lin Su had no idea that he and Gu Lin had already been turned into countless versions of melodramatic love stories.
Before long, the car drove into the residential complex. Carrying fruit baskets, the two made their way with practiced ease to Han Jin's door.
When the door opened, Lin Su witnessed a rather dramatic change of expression for the first time.
The frozen smile at the corners of Han Jin's lips rose again. Looking somewhat awkward, he said with a smile, "Brother Su, you're here."
Lin Su smiled and nodded, saying nothing more.
"I didn't expect President Gu to come as well. Please come in." With that, Han Jin pushed his wheelchair aside to make way.
Gu Lin coldly glanced at the person in the wheelchair before walking straight inside. He set the fruit directly on the table, then glanced at the lavish spread of dishes and said coolly, "I didn't expect a student to be such a good cook."
Han Jin looked at Lin Su and scratched his head somewhat sheepishly. "I usually like reading, especially about food."
"It's not like I have much else to offer. Once I've honed my cooking skills, it'll be easier to find a wife."
"Isn't that right, Brother Su?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Han Jin and Gu Lin both looked at him.
Please don't drag me into this. Much obliged.
Hearing his thoughts, the corners of Gu Lin's lips lifted slightly, and the coldness on his face from a moment ago vanished completely.
Lin Su pushed up his glasses, then happened to raise his hand and check his watch. In a gentle voice, he said, "It's getting late. Let's eat quickly and head to the hospital."
"Mm, sounds good," Gu Lin agreed.
As he spoke, he deliberately cast Han Jin a sidelong glance, his lips curling into a cold, mocking smile.
Han Jin's face darkened at the provocation, but the moment Lin Su turned away, a bright smile returned to his face.
Three people, a table full of dishes, and nearly every one of them suited Lin Su's tastes.
Lin Su roughly scanned the dishes on the table, especially the plate of steamed fish in front of him. Not to mention ginger slices, there was not even a shred of ginger in sight.
Strange. How did he know I'm allergic to ginger?
Yes, he was allergic to ginger. Even the slightest bite would give him a rash. Of course, as long as he did not consume it directly, it was fine, so he was always careful to avoid it in daily life.
Other than his fathers, he had never mentioned this to anyone. He was very curious about how Han Jin knew.
Gu Lin's heart sank. This Han Jin was indeed not simple. Could he be like Mu Xiaomu?
These guesses would eventually be confirmed.
