Dijiang let out a sigh, and all the Ancestral Shamans grew anxious. None of them cultivated the Primordial Spirit—how could they understand anything about cultivating one's nature and nurturing one's temperament? Though they were not as hot-tempered as Zhurong, they were not much better...
The Ancestral Shamans chattered all at once. Though noisy, their words carried a deep bond of brotherhood and sisterhood. Dijiang was deeply moved. After pondering for a while, he finally sighed. "Our Witch Race has nearly a million clansmen, but compared to the countless members of the Demon Race, that number is pitifully small. In such circumstances, how could I not worry?"
Hearing this, Zhurong answered without a moment's thought, "Brother, is this the only matter troubling you?"
When he saw Dijiang nod, he continued, "What is there to worry about? Every member of our race possesses extraordinary combat strength. How could those acquired demons compare with us? Though our clansmen are few, we are more united than the Demon Race. What force would dare provoke us?"
"Alas~~~ If it were truly so, I would not be burdened by this worry!" Dijiang glanced at Zhurong, disappointment flashing through his eyes. Then he said, "At present, our Witch Race is protected by us, so no great calamity has befallen us. But what if someone comparable to us emerges within the Demon Race, unifies the entire Demon Race, and makes them united from top to bottom? What then?"
Those words shook the minds of all the Ancestral Shamans. Before this, how could they ever have considered the possibility of the Demon Race being unified? Among so many demons, just how great would the divine abilities of the one who could unite them all be? When that time came, would the Witch Race not face the disaster of extermination?
At that thought, a chill rose in the hearts of all the Ancestral Shamans!
At that moment, Dijiang continued, "That may very well be the day our Witch Race is exterminated!"
The words "the day of extermination" were enough to move one to tears, instantly casting a bleak and desolate air over the hall! Though the Ancestral Shamans had already entertained such suspicions, hearing it spoken aloud by Dijiang was entirely different. Houtu and Xuanming, whose dispositions were somewhat gentler, could not help letting out faint sobs. Zhurong, meanwhile, snorted out heavy breaths through his flared nostrils in agitation!
In an instant, the spiritual energy of heaven and earth erupted into turmoil, and streams of terrifying magical power spilled out beyond their control!
Seeing this, Dijiang sighed softly. His heart was filled with disappointment, and after that disappointment came endless helplessness. He was a wise man. Ever since the Witch Race and Demon Race had begun to loathe one another, he had already seen this threat of extermination. Thus, he had been seeking a solution all this time, yet had found nothing!
As he watched the Demon Race's power slowly rise, a crushing pressure grew in his heart. After considering it for a long time, he decided to tell the other eleven brothers and sisters, hoping they might have a way to resolve it!
Even after thousands of years, he, who controlled Space Law, had failed to find a solution. He had held no expectations for his eleven siblings. Yet when he truly saw their mournful silence upon hearing the news, he could not help feeling disappointed!
Those who had never experienced such a heart caught between hope and fear could never truly understand it!
"Alas~~~" With a sigh, Dijiang waved his hand, yet still could not help asking, "My brothers and sisters, do you have no solution either?"
"This..." The Ancestral Shamans exchanged glances, all at a loss for where to begin!
"So be it!" Dijiang waved his hand and gave up. "Leave now. Return to your respective tribes and properly restrain your clansmen! Strengthen your cultivation, and do not stir up trouble again!"
"Yes, Brother!" The Ancestral Shamans replied listlessly, their minds elsewhere. At the thought of the Demon Race becoming one, they shuddered with cold dread!
Thus, the Ancestral Shamans took their leave and returned to their respective tribes. They told the matter to the witches below them, firstly in hopes that they might think of a solution, and secondly to spur them on to cultivate diligently!
And so, a hundred years passed!
One day, Houtu suddenly summoned all the Ancestral Shamans, saying that she had an important matter to discuss!
Upon hearing this, the Ancestral Shamans were shaken. They thought of one possibility, set aside their immediate affairs one after another, and rushed straight to Houtu Hall...
Within Houtu Hall stood twelve thrones, upon which sat the twelve Ancestral Shamans. The twelve sat in a row, looking down at a Witch Race member at the Primordial Unity Golden Immortal realm standing respectfully below!
"You are the great witch Zhou Yi, known as the wise one in Sister Houtu's tribe?" Dijiang suppressed the excitement in his heart and kept a gentle smile on his face, one that gave off a warm and approachable air!
In truth, Dijiang was not the only one deliberately wearing a gentle smile. The other eleven Ancestral Shamans were doing the same. Houtu had said that Zhou Yi, who stood respectfully before them, possessed a method to resolve the crisis facing the Witch Race!
The Twelve Ancestral Shamans were no strangers to the name Zhou Yi. During their struggles with the Demon Race over the years, they had long heard many tales about him!
Zhou Yi was the sole oddity in the Witch Race. Why call him an oddity? Because when battling the Demon Race, Zhou Yi was unlike the other witches, neither valiant nor fierce. Instead, he was exceedingly timid and afraid of death. His own strength rivaled that of a Primordial Unity Golden Immortal, yet in battle, he specifically chose demons beneath the Golden Immortal realm! Whenever a slightly stronger demon came looking for him, he would flee far away.
By rights, such an oddity should have been ostracized by the other witches. Yet the opposite was true. Not only did he thrive within the Witch Race, he had even earned the title of wise one! Such conduct was truly beyond anyone's reach!
"This little witch cannot bear such praise, Ancestor! How could Zhou Yi possibly deserve the title of wise one?" Zhou Yi hurriedly knelt on the ground, trembling with fear and reverence!
Seeing this, Dijiang could not help shaking his head with a laugh. This man truly was a living treasure of the Witch Race. After pondering for a moment, he impatiently asked, "According to Sister Houtu, you have a method to resolve the danger facing our Witch Race!"
"I must inform you, Ancestor, that Zhou Yi does have a method, but it is somewhat difficult to carry out!" Zhou Yi hesitated for a moment, yet did not deny it!
"Oh? It is difficult?" Dijiang's brow furrowed slightly. He assumed Zhou Yi wanted to use this as leverage to demand some benefit, and anger rose in his heart. Yet for the future survival of the Witch Race, he could only suppress it. No longer as gentle as before, he said indifferently, "Difficulty is nothing. So long as you have a method to resolve the crisis of our Witch Race, I will grant you one drop of Ancestral Shaman Essence Blood!"
As those words fell, a cold gleam flashed in Dijiang's eyes, terrifying to behold!
However, Zhou Yi had his head lowered and did not see it. Hearing Dijiang's words, he could not help swallowing!
One drop of Ancestral Shaman Essence Blood? If he obtained a drop of such essence blood, then after cultivating a little, he might be able to rival demons at the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal realm!
At that thought, a trace of longing rose in Zhou Yi's heart. But the instant it appeared, he wiped it away. He could clearly hear the change in Dijiang's tone before and after his words. As the publicly acknowledged wise one among the witches, he naturally understood. He knew that even if he asked for that drop of essence blood, he likely would not live to enjoy it!
He was inherently greedy for life and fearful of death. Naturally, he would not throw away his life for a single drop of Ancestral Shaman Essence Blood!
Besides, he had never expected any reward in the first place. If he could lend a hand when the Witch Race faced a crisis, that alone would be an immense honor to him!
With that thought, Zhou Yi said in terror and reverence, "I must inform you, Ancestor, Zhou Yi has never wished to demand any reward. It is only that Zhou Yi's method truly is somewhat difficult!"
"Oh?" Dijiang's expression eased. Seeing that Zhou Yi did not seem to be lying, he could not help blaming himself for being overly suspicious. He then asked, "The fact that it is difficult only proves your method is useful. Say no more—quickly tell us the method you have conceived!"
The first update is here. This week, everyone has not been very supportive. On the new book rankings, not only has this book failed to advance a few places, it has actually fallen back. I originally planned to post three updates every day, but after thinking it over, I should save up more drafts in case something unexpected happens later!
Another announcement: this week, the two daily updates will be posted separately, one before 8 a.m. and one before 8 p.m.!
Alas~~~ This week, Scholar has once again missed the new book homepage rankings. I wonder whether next week will be possible. Anticipating it!
If you think this book is good and want to avoid being unable to find it next time, please remember to add it to your bookshelf!
