Across the Primordial Wilderness, time flew by. In the blink of an eye, several hundred years had passed. Since parting with Xihe and Yuehua, Mu Jizi and Kunpeng had never again encountered any great expert with cultivation above the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal realm!
The two continued wandering the Primordial Wilderness, but eventually grew bored and returned to Two Sages Island above the North Sea to contemplate the Heavenly Dao!
Thus, several thousand more years passed in the blink of an eye, and quite a few things happened throughout the Primordial Wilderness!
Ever since Kunpeng created Demon Script, the cultivation of acquired Demon Cultivators throughout the Primordial Wilderness had advanced by leaps and bounds. In merely several thousand years, experts sprang up everywhere, and Demon Cultivators above the Heavenly Immortal realm became too numerous to count!
By contrast, the Witch Race's million witches had not increased in number. Though each had made progress in their bodily divine abilities, the stronger one became, the harder it was to advance. This was especially true for the Witch Race, who did not cultivate Primordial Spirits and focused solely on tempering their bodies. Over several thousand years, they had all improved, but compared to the Demon Race, they were somewhat eclipsed!
Still, the Witch Race had a solid foundation. Their numbers were few, but every one of them possessed tremendous strength. The Demon Race, meanwhile, had overwhelming numbers, and there was no shortage of those with exceptional cultivation among them!
To make an analogy, the Witch Race's witches were like an elite squad of a thousand from later generations, while the Demon Race was a massive army made up of hundreds of millions. No matter how formidable the squad was, it still fell short before an army. After all, with so many people, how could there be any shortage of elites? A team formed from a thousand commanders could rival the Witch Race's squad!
Fortunately, the Demon Race had yet to be unified. That "army of hundreds of millions" was commanded separately by countless leaders, divided into innumerable forces standing side by side like a forest. Caught in the middle, the Witch Race still lived free and easy lives!
But as the saying went, one mountain could not contain two tigers. Although the various Demon Race forces often fought among themselves, they seemed to possess an inborn loathing for the Witch Race. Several forces established beside Mount Buzhou often joined hands to attack them!
Fortunately, the Witch Race had the Twelve Ancestral Shamans, whose strength rivaled that of Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals. Though the twelve did not cultivate Primordial Spirits, their own strength and wisdom were extraordinary. The power they displayed against the neighboring Demon Race forces filled those forces with dread, ensuring the witches' safety!
At the foot of Mount Buzhou, within a radius of ten thousand li, stood a vast palace. It exuded a majestic, ancient, eternal aura. A hazy presence drifted from it as it towered amid endless forests, neither abrupt nor out of place. Instead, it felt as though it ought to be there, profound beyond all mystery!
Drawing near and looking closely, one could see three great characters written hazily above the palace. The characters seemed both real and unreal, without any discernible pattern, yet anyone who saw them would unconsciously recite in their heart: Ancestral Shaman Hall!
At that moment, twelve thrones of equal rank stood within the Ancestral Shaman Hall. Twelve figures of different appearances sat upon them, conversing casually!
Though the twelve sat there at ease, terrifying waves of power emanated from their bodies, ancient and eternal. A casual glance from any one of them could extinguish countless living beings. A casual movement could stir the spiritual energy of heaven and earth into turmoil. A casual breath could whip up gust after gust of wild wind!
Needless to say, these twelve were naturally the Twelve Ancestral Shamans of the Witch Race!
They spoke casually, seemingly discussing some matter. Suddenly, one of them stood up—a middle-aged red-haired man with bulging muscles and veins coiling like dragons. He shouted at Dijiang:
"Elder Brother, those Demon Race bastards have gone too far! Such petty forces actually dare dream of wiping out our Witch Race's million witches. They are truly hateful!"
This middle-aged red-haired man was Zhurong, the Ancestral Shaman who controlled the laws of fire. Born with fire-based divine abilities, his temper was as violent as leaping flames!
"Elder Brother, just give the word. Within a day, I will wipe out those few forces one after another!"
"When will you ever change that temper of yours?" Hearing this, Dijiang, whose two strands of silver hair draped over his shoulders, could not help frowning slightly. He then said calmly, "I told you long ago that we cannot destroy those Demon Race forces around us. Do you still not understand?"
"Humph!" Zhurong snorted in dissatisfaction. "Isn't it just because we fear the other Demon Race forces? With the strength of the twelve of us, who in the Primordial Wilderness can be our enemy? What is there to fear?"
"You!" Dijiang flew into a rage, his heart brimming with frustration. With the bitterness of one who hated iron for not becoming steel, he said, "We may not fear those Demon Race members, but what about the witches of our Witch Race? Must we sacrifice our million witches merely for a moment of satisfaction?"
"This..." Zhurong was struck speechless. After thinking for a while, shame appeared on his face. "Elder Brother is right. I failed to consider things thoroughly!"
"Humph! Failed to consider things thoroughly? Or did you take my words for wind passing by your ears?" Dijiang's face turned icy, and his sharp gaze made Zhurong wish he could find a crack in the ground and crawl into it!
"Elder Brother, do not be angry. Brother Zhurong has always had this sort of temperament; he cannot entirely be blamed!" At this moment, Houtu, whose face carried an expression of great compassion, spoke up to persuade him!
Several other Ancestral Shamans also joined in urging him. Only then did Dijiang's expression ease somewhat. He sighed and said, "It is not that I blame him. I merely lament that my own strength is insufficient, insufficient to lead our Witch Race toward glory!"
"Elder Brother, what are you saying? Looking across the entire Primordial Wilderness, how many could possibly be your match?" Xuanming frowned slightly and said, "If even Elder Brother cannot lead our Witch Race to glory, then how can the rest of us call ourselves the ancestors of the Witch Race?"
"Sister Xuanming speaks reasonably! Elder Brother, do not belittle yourself!" Zhurong hurriedly echoed.
Seeing this, Dijiang felt as though a warm current had flowed into his heart, making him feel immensely comforted. Yet whenever he thought of the perilous crisis now facing the Witch Race, his heart grew heavy. After pondering for a while, he said again, "Brothers and sisters, say no more. I know well enough how much I am worth!"
After saying this, he could not help sighing again, and a trace of sorrow appeared on his face!
At this sight, Zhuyin, the Ancestral Shaman of time who controlled past and future, suddenly changed expression. His heart skipped a beat, and he sensed that something was amiss!
After thinking for a long time without finding any answer, he asked in a deep voice, "Elder Brother, why is this? Have you encountered some difficulty?"
"This... alas..." Hearing this, hesitation flickered across Dijiang's face. He wanted to speak, yet did not know where to begin. In the end, he could only let out another deep sigh!
The moment that sigh left him, the extraordinarily wise Ancestral Shamans all sensed that something was wrong!
Zhurong said in vexation, "Elder Brother, why keep sighing? You are making your own brothers feel stifled. If there is some difficulty, bring it out and let your brothers share the burden. That is better than Elder Brother worrying over it alone!"
"That's right! Brother Dijiang, what could there possibly be between the twelve of us that cannot be spoken of?"
"With only a few difficulties, why should the twelve of us fear them? Elder Brother, quickly tell us so we can make plans together! Do not keep it bottled up inside and suffer alone!"...
