As night deepened, the mountain path on Spirit Tempering Peak grew so quiet that only the wind remained.

Shen Yuxi walked alone through it. The night wind lifted his waist-length black hair, while the hem of his ultramarine disciple robes fluttered softly. The cloud patterns embroidered along the edges flashed with a faint silver under the moonlight, lending him an added air of cold, ethereal grace.

He raised his head to gaze at the crescent moon in the sky. Its clear radiance fell across his pale brows and eyes, yet it did not stir the slightest ripple in those icy-pool-like pupils.

His gaze was clearly fixed on the moon, but his thoughts had long since drifted far away. He looked as though his soul had been drawn out of him, completely lost in thought. The emotions churning in his chest were tangled and chaotic, leaving him at a loss for how to calm them.

Half of this turmoil came from his brief encounter with Gu Jingzhao just now.

When that bright, obedient "Second Senior Brother" fell from Gu Jingzhao's lips, Shen Yuxi felt the heart hidden beneath his calm exterior suddenly race wildly. Even his fingertips trembled with a faint, nearly imperceptible quiver.

Hearing the second male lead call him "Senior Brother" from such close range, with not a trace of distance in his voice, had instead carried a hint of awkwardness, like someone caught after doing something wrong. Gu Jingzhao had seemed like a little beast that had tucked away its claws and obediently acknowledged its owner, so soft that warmth seeped into Shen Yuxi's heart.

At the mere recollection, Shen Yuxi's footsteps unconsciously slowed. A faint smile quietly spread through his eyes, and even the icy aura around him inexplicably softened somewhat.
