Background / History

The Profound Heaven Sect was founded more than three thousand years ago. Its founding sect master entered the Dao through the sword, establishing sword cultivation as the sect’s central tradition. Although it offers courses across different disciplines, its reputation as a sword-cultivator sect has eclipsed its other fields. 1

The sect’s fortune is bound to the Twin-Life Tree, a spiritual tree planted by the founding sect master. Successive sect masters and elders carved sword scars into its trunk, leaving behind traces of refined sword intent for later disciples to comprehend. 1

At some point in its history, the sect narrowly survived a major calamity. The then-young Twin-Life Tree was buried under a mountain-rock slide, but later pushed aside the boulders and recovered. Rocks nourished by the tree’s spiritual qi became self-healing bluestone, later used in major sect structures. 15

In the present era, a sudden fissure appears in the Twin-Life Tree’s trunk. True Person Yu Qing’s divinations repeatedly indicate a possible calamity of sect annihilation, while Heavenly Secrets Pavilion master Xuanji Zi warns that the greater threat may be the collapse of the Heavenly Dao across all Nine Domains. 1

Heavenly Mystery Assembly

The Heavenly Mystery Assembly is held once every three years and serves as the sect’s initiation examination. It consists of nine trials. 1

Outer Sect Grand Competition

The annual Outer Sect Grand Competition selects outstanding outer sect disciples for promotion. It is a major opportunity for disciples to earn inner sect positions, reputation, and greater access to resources. 14 17

The competition assesses more than combat ability. During the documented competition, applicants registered special skills for separate talent testing, completed written examinations, and fought in arena matches. Cheating was punished through the Discipline Hall. 16 17

New Inner Sect Instruction

Newly promoted inner sect disciples receive three months of concentrated instruction at Spirit Medicine Peak. Golden Core Realm and higher disciples rotate as teachers, with personal disciples teaching during the first month; elders observe classes and provide evaluations. 20
