Background / History

The Profound Heaven Sect was founded more than three thousand years ago. Its founding sect master entered the Dao through the sword, establishing sword cultivation as the sect’s central tradition. Although it offers courses across different disciplines, its reputation as a sword-cultivator sect has eclipsed its other fields. 1

The sect’s fortune is bound to the Twin-Life Tree, a spiritual tree planted by the founding sect master. Successive sect masters and elders carved sword scars into its trunk, leaving behind traces of refined sword intent for later disciples to comprehend. 1

At some point in its history, the sect narrowly survived a major calamity. The then-young Twin-Life Tree was buried under a mountain-rock slide, but later pushed aside the boulders and recovered. Rocks nourished by the tree’s spiritual qi became self-healing bluestone, later used in major sect structures. 15

The Twin-Life Tree’s roots now spread beneath more than half of the sect and intertwine with its spirit veins, creating a unique cycle of spiritual energy. This environment greatly accelerates the cultivation of sect disciples and is a major foundation of the sect’s prosperity. 148

The sect is situated at the convergence of twelve spiritual veins in Lingshu Heaven Domain. Successive sect masters protected this blessed land and used the Twin-Life Tree to nourish the spiritual veins in return, allowing the sect’s fortune and resources to continuously reinforce one another. 225

In the present era, a sudden fissure appears in the Twin-Life Tree’s trunk. True Person Yu Qing’s divinations repeatedly indicate a possible calamity of sect annihilation, while Heavenly Secrets Pavilion master Xuanji Zi warns that the greater threat may be the collapse of the Heavenly Dao across all Nine Domains. 1

After the Immortal Sects Assembly seventeen years earlier caused severe losses among the major factions, the Profound Heaven Sect closed its gates for sixteen years and avoided overt competition with other sects. In the following years, however, it resumed acting decisively against Demonic Cultivators and evil cultivators, repeatedly uncovering long-hidden threats. 222 225

Standing and Principles

The Profound Heaven Sect is recognized as the foremost sect of the Lingshu Heaven Domain. Its large disciple body, deep foundation, wealth, and powerful elders make it one of the domain’s dominant forces. 1 37

It is also regarded as one of the three strongest forces in the Nine Domains and, alongside the Primordial Unity Sect, one of the two principal righteous-path sects responsible for confronting Demonic Cultivator threats. 222 225

It presents itself as a righteous sect responsible for safeguarding living beings, enforcing strict rules among its disciples, and preserving peace between Lingshu’s sects and noble clans. 1

True Person Yu Qing resides on Misty Spirit Peak and serves as the current sect master. Shen Yuxi is his only direct disciple. 1

Heavenly Mystery Assembly

The Heavenly Mystery Assembly is held once every three years and serves as the sect’s initiation examination. It consists of nine trials. 1

Outer Sect Grand Competition

The annual Outer Sect Grand Competition selects outstanding outer sect disciples for promotion. It is a major opportunity for disciples to earn inner sect positions, reputation, and greater access to resources. 14 17

The competition assesses more than combat ability. During the documented competition, applicants registered special skills for separate talent testing, completed written examinations, and fought in arena matches. Cheating was punished through the Discipline Hall. 16 17

The elders temporarily entrusted the competition’s organization to the personal disciples as practical training in coordination, judgment, and leadership. 14

New Inner Sect Instruction

Newly promoted inner sect disciples receive three months of concentrated instruction at Spirit Medicine Peak. Golden Core Realm and higher disciples rotate as teachers, with personal disciples teaching during the first month; elders observe classes and provide evaluations. 20

Teaching rewards are determined by how much the new disciples improve over their outer sect performance baseline. 20

Hundred Sects Tournament

The Hundred Sects Tournament is a decennial gathering that combines youth competitions, cultivation assemblies, and magical-treasure exchanges. It is ordinarily hosted in rotation by major Lingshu forces, though outside-domain factions have increasingly participated. 3

After the previous tournament was cancelled amid the fallout of the Immortal Sects Assembly, the major powers select the Profound Heaven Sect to host the restored event because it can control the overall situation. 225

The sect does not compel most disciples to participate. Other than Chu Shihan and Shen Yuxi, who must represent their respective lineages and the sect’s younger generation, participation is voluntary. 221

During the tournament’s opening, the Twin-Life Tree releases Spiritual Dew and produces a nine-colored heavenly phenomenon. Yu Qing and the sect elders interpret it as a blessing from the tree, then lead the disciples in paying it reverence. 248

Resources and Equipment

The sect is wealthy but does not distribute resources without condition. Disciples earn points by completing sect missions, then exchange those points for resources; this system applies equally regardless of background or status. 34

• The storehouses contain treasures recovered from expeditions, demon-beast and spirit-beast materials, and limited emergency reserves of spirit ores and spirit plants. 15
