Chu Tian groaned inwardly, but he did not regret exposing the matter. He only regretted not coming up with a more suitable way to say it.
He truly could not bear to watch an innocent girl get dragged down by a scumbag and have her acting career ruined.
"Trust me, sis. I really don't mean any harm," Chu Tian said, looking at Guo Fumei with complete sincerity. "I only learned through certain channels that your boyfriend has been unfaithful. I couldn't bear to see you being deceived, so I wanted to warn you. It doesn't matter whether you believe me or not."
Guo Fumei pursed her lips and said nothing, but deep down, she had already begun to believe Chu Tian.
Her boyfriend was a producer. Actors were not like idols; neither their companies nor their fans would interfere much with dating or marriage.
But keeping their relationship private had been her boyfriend's decision. He said he did not want people claiming that she only got acting opportunities because of her boyfriend's status.
Guo Fumei was a strong-willed person herself. When her boyfriend said that, she had been deeply moved, believing that he was thinking entirely of her and that he had been wronged for her sake.
But once the seed of suspicion was planted, it grew wildly in the wind.
She thought of how her boyfriend had recently kept using social obligations and work as excuses. Though they were in the same production crew, they barely had any time to meet in private.
Could he really be...
Guo Fumei silently took out her phone, opened WeChat, and sent a message.
Seeing this, Chu Tian casually looked away and continued watching the filming on set, silently giving the action-oriented Meimei a thumbs-up.
After accepting the cameo role, Chu Tian quickly received the new script.
The director apologetically explained that too many productions had started filming in Hengdian recently, leaving no vacant hotel rooms. Since Chu Tian and Gu Shiyan were boyfriend-boyfriend, they would have to make do with sharing a room for the time being.
As he spoke, the director seemed to think he had done a wonderful deed by bringing lovers together, and he gave Chu Tian a suggestive wink.
Chu Tian: "..." Well, thank you so very much.
So that evening, Gu Shiyan led his little boyfriend, whose face was flushed red with embarrassment, back to his hotel room.
"Little Huang will bring the RV over tomorrow," Chu Tian stammered. "I-I can go back and stay there tonight. It'll be the same if I come to the set early tomorrow morning."
"Have you forgotten the terms of our agreement?" Gu Shiyan reminded him good-naturedly. "Are you in such a hurry to avoid suspicion?"
Chu Tian immediately wilted. Then he thought, if Gu Shiyan was not afraid, what was he afraid of? It was not like this was their first time sharing a bed.
With that thought, he perked right back up. Full of determination, he went to wash up first, then put on Gu Shiyan's clean pajamas and sat on the bed to read the script.
No wonder the director had immediately invited Chu Tian to audition the moment he saw him, even willing to add scenes for Gu Shiyan because of it. The role truly suited him perfectly.
He was the only son of a cotton mill director in the 1980s. At a young age, he became a technician at the factory. Because he was excessively handsome, he was known as the "Factory Heartthrob," and countless young women adored and pursued him.
One obsessive young woman had confessed her love to him frantically. Even after being rejected multiple times, she stubbornly clung to him, only to be mocked behind her back and targeted by countless rumors.
Unable to win him and slandered by others, the young woman committed suicide in a fit of rage. Before dying, she even left behind a love letter.
The girl's family placed all the blame for her death on the Factory Heartthrob. They blocked his door, cursed him, demanded a life for a life, and even caused a scene at the factory, demanding that he be stripped of his position.
The once spirited young man was driven into losing his job and becoming unable to leave home. In the end, the overwhelming mental pressure drove him insane.
He was only a tragic minor character in the ensemble drama, but choosing an actor for the role had nearly made the director tear his hair out.
To fit the role perfectly, the director's requirements were that the actor had to be the right age and more handsome than every other actor in the cast.
That was because the original novel described the Factory Heartthrob's appearance in many ways. He was the most strikingly beautiful male character in the entire book and deeply beloved by its readers.
The director had never found an actor who satisfied him, so the role had remained vacant until now, when he happened to encounter Chu Tian visiting the set.
The instant the director saw him, he was stunned as if beholding a celestial being, certain that Chu Tian was the Factory Heartthrob himself.
Only a young man who looked like this could capture the hearts of so many young women and inspire such frenzied devotion, just as the original novel described.
To accommodate their schedules, the director urgently rearranged the filming order. Chu Tian had scenes scheduled for the next day.
He memorized the script through the night, eventually falling asleep without realizing it and completely forgetting the awkwardness of sharing a bed with Gu Shiyan.
Seeing Chu Tian sleeping in a crooked position and even softly snoring, Gu Shiyan helplessly adjusted him into a more comfortable posture.
Chu Tian had guessed that, with his warning, Guo Fumei would act quickly, but he had not expected her to act so fast.
Early the next morning, Chu Tian was still trying on makeup when a sudden burst of noisy cursing erupted outside.
Chu Tian, who had been dozing in front of the vanity while letting the makeup artist work, instantly woke up. He sprang to his feet and ran toward the commotion, leaving the makeup artist standing there in bewilderment with an eyebrow pencil still clutched in hand.
Chu Tian slipped nimbly through the crowd like a fish and quickly squeezed his way into the center.
Ahead of him, Guo Fumei had unleashed her full firepower. One hand gripped a man's tie, while the other yanked the second female lead's long hair. She held them both in check by herself while unleashing a torrent of curses.
"You bitch! You two were screwing around behind my back, and you even brought her into the production? I actually believed your bullshit and treated her like a sister, taught her acting with all my heart, and let you fools play me like an idiot! If someone hadn't warned me, I'd still be kept in the dark by the two of you!"
The man Guo Fumei refused to release could barely be considered decent-looking. Being watched by so many people made him feel humiliated, and his face darkened with rage. He viciously shook off Guo Fumei's arm and tried to rescue the second female lead, whose face had twisted in pain from having her hair pulled.
That made Guo Fumei explode even further. With an enraged roar, she pounced on him, and the three of them began wrestling in a tangled heap.
The onlookers were startled and rushed forward to break up the fight.
One was a producer, one was the female lead, and one was the second female lead. None of them could be allowed to get hurt.
Chu Tian rushed forward too. He was not there to break up the fight; he simply wanted to help Meimei, the heroic warrior taking on two enemies at once.
In the chaos, the scumbag was viciously scratched across the face by Guo Fumei. He covered his face in pain, saw blood on his hand, and flew into a rage, kicking Guo Fumei.
He wore hard-soled leather shoes. If that kick landed solidly, the consequences would be severe.
In that split second, Chu Tian's head went hot, and he stepped in to block it.
Bang—
After the deafening impact, it was as though someone had hit pause on the set. Everything fell silent.
Guo Fumei watched helplessly as Chu Tian was kicked flying by the scumbag, crashing into the wooden prop platform behind him. She was so horrified that her soul nearly left her body.
"Xiaotian!"
Bang!
Following Guo Fumei's shocked cry came another deafening impact.
Gu Shiyan, who had rushed over just in time to witness Chu Tian being injured, felt the string in his mind snap. The mask of courtesy and gentlemanly restraint he always wore cracked apart. With a fierce expression, he charged forward and smashed his fist into the scumbag's face, knocking him to the ground.
"How dare you hurt him?"
Gu Shiyan threw off his jacket, pinned the man to the ground, and rained down punch after punch, each one landing with brutal force. Amid the horrified cries around him, he beat the man until he vomited blood.
"Gu... Gu Shiyan..."
