Lagrun came in from the small courtyard behind the inn, carrying a sack of charcoal over his shoulder.
Although the nights had begun to turn chilly at this time of year, it was still far too early to fire up the boiler. He lit the boiler and fed the broken chunks of charcoal into it a little at a time. Feeling its heat, the innkeeper picked up his beer mug without even washing his hands and filled it to the brim.
Gulp, gulp.
The sound of swallowing echoed through the inn's empty hall, but it couldn't drown out the clamor outside the Furnace Grilled Fish.
The earlier explosion had left the members of the Special Operations Group in a sorry state. The regular police didn't dare show up at a time like this, leaving the rescue work to the group's limited manpower.
