Background / History
Kaido leads the Beasts Pirates and regards strength as the foremost standard for recruitment. After learning that Fisher Tiger had attacked Mary Geoise and freed slaves, he set out to meet him, intending to make him the Pirates’ fourth All-Star if Tiger’s strength proved sufficient. He left King and Queen to oversee his base. 12
When Fisher Tiger was not found, Kaido instead targeted Fish-Man Island for potential recruits. He forcibly breached its bubble defenses by launching himself from a ship, destroying the vessel and leaving its crew to be crushed by the deep sea. His landing devastated the island and his overwhelming aura incapacitated much of the population. 24
Jinbe confronted Kaido to defend Ryugu Palace, but Kaido defeated him with Thunder Bagua. Mobius then challenged Kaido, prompting him to recognize the younger fighter’s potential and repeatedly offer him a place in the Beasts Pirates. 25 26
Kaido ultimately fought Mobius across Fish-Man Island and Ryugu Palace. Although he overwhelmed Mobius in physical strength, combat experience, and Haki, Mobius used a Poneglyph-based defense, Dark Water’s Devil Fruit suppression, and a Fish-Man Karate water torrent to force Kaido out of Fish-Man Island. Kaido accepted the result as a defeat caused by his own underestimation of Mobius. 26 27
After being swept into the deep sea, Kaido remained alive through the Azure Dragon Fruit’s properties and encountered the thirteen-year-old fish-man Jack. He continued reflecting on Mobius’s unusual abilities while awaiting the Beasts Pirates’ eventual search efforts. 31
Appearance
Kaido is a towering, heavily muscled man with shoulder-length black hair and a fierce, demon-like face. His presence alone is powerful enough to overwhelm weaker opponents. 24 25
- Carries the spiked club Hassaikai. 25 26
- Takes on a blue-scaled dragon-man form in battle. 25 26
- Can transform into an immense blue dragon, described as thousands of meters long. 12 26
- His dragon form possesses scales, claws, fangs, and an elongated body and tail. 25 27
Personality
Kaido is boisterous, violent, and openly contemptuous of those he considers weak. His arrival at Fish-Man Island was deliberately destructive, and he dismissed the island’s defenders after his aura incapacitated most of its residents. 24
Despite this brutality, he values courage, potential, and direct combat. He respected Jinbe’s determination, wanted both Jinbe and Mobius in his crew, and treated Mobius’s refusal as grounds for a serious fight rather than deception. 25 26
Kaido can acknowledge failure when he believes it is deserved. After Mobius expelled him from Fish-Man Island, he concluded that he had lost because he underestimated his opponent and violated too many battlefield principles. 27

Kaido’s raw physical ability greatly exceeds that of Jinbe and initially surpassed Mobius in strength and speed. 25 27
