2B Is the Best!

The laboratory was secure on all sides, and Red Queen monitored it around the clock.

Besides, Professor Connors ate, slept, and did everything else at the company. There was no opening to exploit.

When he saw Professor Connors, Coulson smiled and asked, "Mr. Li Wei, have you found the people who ambushed you last time?"

"Not yet."

Li Wei shook his head.

He looked at Coulson. "You know who they are?"

"The Devil's Gang."

Coulson smiled. Beside him, Gwen Stacy stirred at the name.

Li Wei made a mental note to deal with them later.

"Thank you."

He knew Coulson was offering him a favor.

"Li, we can start the experiment."

As soon as they finished talking, Professor Connors cut in.

"Then let's begin."

Li Wei nodded.

Professor Connors immediately grew excited.

If not for Li Wei's investment, he would have started experimenting long ago.

The test subject was a white rabbit. It was missing one leg.

With Red Queen's help, the Lizard Serum had been substantially refined.

But science demanded rigorous testing.

Professor Connors pressed a button, injecting a green liquid into the rabbit.

"The serum contains DNA from lizards and other creatures that can regenerate."

Li Wei began explaining.

Any research needed people who could use its results, and this serum would clearly be most useful to organizations like S.H.I.E.L.D. and the military.

After all, America was the one major power that had launched war after war in recent years...

Coulson watched closely.

The serum's effects were startling.

In mere moments, the rabbit's severed limb began to grow. A lower leg pushed out of its body like a chick breaking through its shell.

It looked like a chicken foot at first, but rapidly developed into a complete leg.

But then...

"Something seems off," Coulson said.

Li Wei remained calm. He had expected this. "It's perfectly normal!"

The rabbit suddenly turned violent.

It hurled itself around the test chamber, ramming its body into the glass again and again.

Bang! Bang!

It hit hard enough to make a tremendous racket.

Professor Connors said, "That's blast-resistant glass. It'll be fine."

Coulson nodded. He really had been worried the rabbit might break through.

"Why is it so strong?" Coulson asked.

If he hadn't seen the rabbit inside, he would have thought a kangaroo was in there...

"The serum makes its recipient stronger," Li Wei said. "We want to create a world without the weak."

"Exactly!"

Professor Connors smiled.

After a while, the rabbit finally calmed down and began hopping around the chamber, eating grass.

"Experiment successful!" Red Queen announced, then recorded the data. "Human trials are recommended next. Human subjects may experience lizard-gene mutations. Please make the necessary preparations."

Coulson was genuinely interested now.

"It's a shame we won't get to witness the human trials."

"That isn't necessarily true." Li Wei smiled. "If you can provide test subjects, I'll let you observe."

Finding subjects was what troubled Li Wei. Human experimentation wasn't easy in America.

Of course, that was mainly because he had a conscience.

Without one, he could have tricked people into it.

Others had done just that, luring Black people with promises of free medical care and experimenting on them. Some had even injected them with HIV...

Sometimes, the depths of corporate cruelty defied imagination.

"I'll need to report back," Coulson said at once.

He believed the Lizard Serum had tremendous value.

After all, some people liked prosthetics, but others preferred their original limbs.

Once the experiment was over, Coulson left immediately.

"Director Fury. Director Hill."

Coulson soon returned to headquarters and went straight to the director's office.

Nick Fury and Maria Hill were both there.

Nick Fury had been asking Maria Hill what she thought of Li Wei.

Despite her relationship with Li Wei, Maria Hill remained objective and gave him a coolheaded assessment.

She kept details like Li Wei's measurements to herself, though. Those were hers to know.

Nick Fury gradually gained a clearer picture of Li Wei. As he waved Coulson in, he asked, "How does he compare with Tony Stark?"

"He's a hundred times better than that playboy," Maria Hill said bluntly.

Tony Stark was far too arrogant. From her time with Li Wei, she had found him quite likable.

Aside from his habit of taking shots at Tony Stark in front of the media, he had no flaws!

Nick Fury nodded. He wasn't worried about Maria Hill falling in love.

She was the deputy director, an outstanding agent. She wouldn't let feelings sway her!

"Coulson, how did it go?"

They both turned to him.

Coulson smiled. "We reached an agreement, and I got to watch their experiment."

He then described what he had seen.

When he heard Future Technology Company needed human test subjects, Nick Fury said, "I'll make the arrangements. Thanks for the effort."

"No trouble. If there's nothing else, I'll head out," Coulson said.

"I'm leaving too."

Maria Hill stood up.

Neither of them liked lingering in Nick Fury's office. The pressure was a little much.

"Gwen, do I have anything else this afternoon?"

Li Wei asked Gwen Stacy.

"Yes. People from the Osborn Group are coming over," Gwen said with a nod.

"All right, then."

Li Wei had been planning to slip away.

He was tired today and wanted to go home early to rest.

Maria Hill was at an age when her appetite was fierce. Li Wei had barely managed to keep up.

"I'll rest in my office for a bit."

Li Wei returned to his office and found 2B sitting on the sofa with impeccable posture.

As if she never got tired.

Oh, right. She didn't.

"2B, I'm going to rest for a bit."

Li Wei walked to the sofa and lay down with his head on 2B's lap.

Though her body was mechanical, her skin felt just like a real person's. It was wonderfully comfortable.

2B obediently began massaging him.

She controlled her strength so every touch was just right. The pressure never varied; every motion was identical.

After a while, 2B suddenly spoke.

"Master."

"Hmm?"

"What happened last night... 2B can provide that too."

Li Wei jolted upright.

"Really?"

"Members of YoRHa will give everything for humanity," 2B said with utmost seriousness. "Besides, it's already written into my programming."

Li Wei was overjoyed. 2B is the best!
