Bang.
Lin Fei felt his entire body fly up and then rapidly plummet, followed by a heavy crash onto the ground. His head felt dizzy, and he heard a piercing screech of brakes in his ears. By then, his eyes could no longer open, and his remaining consciousness could only catch the chaotic sounds all around him.
"Call the police quickly, someone got hit by a car."
*****
Endless darkness. In a hazy blur, Lin Fei seemed to see a flash of light. He woke up abruptly, as if startling awake from a nightmare, gasping for breath with heavy chests heaves, his heart still filled with deep fear.
Where is this? A hospital?
Lin Fei remembered being sent flying by a speeding car, so he hurriedly checked himself up and down. He wore fluffy pajamas and lay on a soft, large bed, completely uninjured.
Strange, I was clearly sent flying by a car, so why am I not hurt at all now? Also, even if I weren't injured, I should be in a hospital. Is this a hospital?
Only then did Lin Fei raise his head and look around the room. The room was very large, and the bed even had curtains. Through the curtains, the clear blue sky outside the window was visible.
Gradually, however, Lin Fei noticed something was wrong. There were no electric lights, no air conditioning, and not even a single thing related to electricity.
There was only a writing desk, a tall wooden chair, and a round stool. On the desk sat some thread-bound books and a candlestick holding three unburned candles.
A jolt went through Lin Fei's heart, and he hurriedly hurried over to a huge mirror in the room. Reflected in the mirror was an immature and unfamiliar face—a high-bridged nose, a slender face, and a sickly pallor. Though he had a head of long black hair, his eyes were blue.
The person in the mirror was no longer the face Lin Fei knew!
Who on earth am I?
Lin Fei muttered to himself, collapsing onto the bed. Suddenly, a sharp pain wracked his head, and a flood of unfamiliar memories surged in like a tide.
Merlin? I am Wilson Merlin?
Lin Fei quickly sorted through this sudden influx of memories. The world he had transmigrated to was still very backward, somewhat resembling the medieval period of his past life, ruled by many kingdoms. The place he was in was Blackwater City, a medium-sized city in the Bright Kingdom.
Merlin's father, Old Wilson, was a minor noble. Although he was only a baron—the lowest tier of nobility—he had genuinely earned it through military exploits. He joined the army in his youth, served for twenty years, and even participated in the Bright Kingdom's campaign to subjugate the eastern heretics of the Black Moon Kingdom, rendering distinguished service.
After retiring from the army, Old Wilson was granted the title of baron by the king, along with a sizable fief. However, Old Wilson preferred living in the city, so he only went to his fief during tax collection season.
In Merlin's mind, there were many memories of Old Wilson, but the memories of his mother were very vague, limited to just a general outline. Merlin's mother was an easterner who had fled to the Bright Kingdom as a refugee. His father married her and fathered Merlin, and this head of black hair was inherited from his mother.
However, his mother died shortly after giving birth to Merlin, so even Merlin himself could not remember what she looked like.
Knock, knock, knock.
Just as Merlin was lost in the memories within his mind, a knock sounded outside the door. Merlin hurriedly returned to the bed and spoke up, "Come in!"
The bedroom door was gently pushed open, and a maid wearing gray maid attire walked in. Holding a stack of clothes in her hands, she spoke softly to Merlin, "Master Merlin, these are your clothes for today."
Seeing this maid, memories immediately surfaced in Merlin's mind. This was his personal maid, named Lucija.
Merlin replied indifferently, "Alright, leave the clothes here and you may go."
Lucija had been keeping her head down, but now she raised it slightly, allowing Merlin to catch a glimpse of her appearance. Her facial skin was very fair, and although there were a few small freckles, they did not detract from Lucija's beauty overall.
"Master Merlin, Miss Macy is waiting for you downstairs to have breakfast."
Merlin nodded and said, "I know, I'll be right down."
Lucija gave a slight curtsy, lifted the hem of her skirt, and left the bedroom gracefully. Only then did Merlin get up, picked up the clothes Lucija had left on the table, and quickly changed into them.
The white shirt inside this outfit was very comfortable, likely made of cotton cloth, and bore no trace of machine sewing—it was obviously purely handmade. Slipping on the black outer coat, Merlin stood in front of the mirror and examined himself closely. Aside from his gaze still retaining a trace of his past life, everything else felt completely unfamiliar to him.
Merlin left the bedroom, went downstairs to the hall, and saw his younger sister, Macy, sitting straight in a chair with a look of dissatisfaction, evidently having waited for some time.
"Hurry up, Merlin, or we'll be late for the Church again later."
Macy urged him impatiently.
"Oh? Where are we going later?"
Merlin sat down in a chair and asked with a frown. He truly did not know where they were going today; although he had accepted many of Wilson Merlin's memories, some portions were still missing.
Macy opened her eyes wide, barely restraining herself from exploding, and lowered her voice. "Merlin, don't play dumb. Even though Father went to the fief to collect taxes, before leaving, he instructed that you must go to sword instructor Pero for training every single day!"
Merlin did not speak, silently committing all of this to memory. That single remark from Macy had revealed a great deal of information: Old Wilson had gone to the fief and would not be returning anytime soon. Because of this, at least until he completely fused with these memories, he didn't have to worry about slipping up and getting exposed by Old Wilson.
"I know."
Merlin replied indifferently, then picked up the knife and fork on the table and began to eat breakfast.
Breakfast consisted of bread, milk, and some very thick wheat porridge. The taste was actually quite good, and Merlin's appetite soared as he drank three small bowls in succession.
Merlin ate quickly. After wiping away the remaining food crumbs from the corners of his mouth, he finally had time to examine Macy closely.
Macy was born to Old Wilson's eighth wife. As for what that wife was called, Merlin had no clear memory.
At the mention of Old Wilson's eighth wife, a pair of enormous breasts inexplicably popped into Merlin's mind—yes, huge, plump breasts. Merlin used to privately refer to Old Wilson's eighth wife as the Big-Breasted Madam.
Thinking of the Big-Breasted Madam, Merlin subconsciously looked at Macy's chest. Although Macy was only fourteen years old, she had already developed quite well. Her entire body had distinct curves, especially her chest, which perhaps inherited the superior genes of the Big-Breasted Madam and was also quite impressive in scale.
Macy did not notice Merlin's gaze, urging anxiously, "Hurry up, we're running out of time. Sword instructor Pero is very strict."
Thus, both Merlin and Macy quickly boarded the carriage that had been prepared beforehand and headed toward the Church.
