Merlin's heart stirred. He had heard Swordsman Pero mention "Elemental Swordsman" several times earlier, but he had never known what it meant. He had thought it was merely a title for those who practiced swordsmanship, but apparently that was not the case.

Of course, guiding elements into one's body did not necessarily require a sword. For example, some people possessed wind elemental affinity and, with a powerful bow, could become terrifying hunters. They were called Elemental Swordsmen only because the overwhelming majority of people in this world used swords.

Swordsman Pero was already a true Flame Swordsman, but Kadoron, Mei Xue, and the others merely possessed elemental affinity. They were not yet capable of fully drawing out the power of the elements in their bodies—or rather, they had not accumulated enough elements yet—so they could not be considered true Elemental Swordsmen.

However, as long as they cultivated diligently and persistently, they might become powerful Elemental Swordsmen and wield terrifying strength no less than Swordsman Pero's punch just now.

Learning this, Merlin felt greatly excited. Did such immense power not mean that he could possess it as well?

But Anson's next words extinguished his hopes.

"Merlin, Elemental Swordsmen are powerful and have limitless prospects! But we do not have any elemental affinity, so we are destined never to become Elemental Swordsmen. You have it a little better. Almost every Light Swordsman would become a Guardian Swordsman of the Light Church, receiving the Church's aid and support. Their cultivation speed would greatly surpass that of other swordsmen.

Yet regardless of what type of Elemental Swordsman one was, elemental affinity was fundamental. Without elemental affinity, one simply could not become an Elemental Swordsman. Merlin, Anson, and the others belonged precisely to the category of people without any elemental affinity.

Those who came here to practice swordsmanship under Swordsman Pero could be divided into three groups. The first consisted of commoners without the slightest status or background. Every one of them possessed elemental affinity and belonged to the more talented group, which was why the Church permitted them to come here. If they were fortunate enough to become Elemental Swordsmen, they would be absorbed by the Church and become its armed force. Kadoron was one of the best among them.

The second group consisted of children from noble families, though they too possessed elemental affinity. Compared to those commoners, these noble children with status and family backgrounds had far broader prospects. Once they became Elemental Swordsmen, their families would send them to larger cities for further study. Their futures would be limitless. Mei Xue belonged to this group as well.

The third group consisted of people like Merlin and Anson. They were both children of noble families, but they lacked elemental affinity and would have limited achievements in the future. Although all three groups practiced swordsmanship here under Swordsman Pero, the divisions between them were clear, and each had its own small circle.

After a long while, Merlin thought of Kadoron, who had performed so impressively earlier, and quietly asked, "How is Kadoron's elemental affinity?"
