Background / History

Yuan Hui was originally a hot-headed sports-school student with a reputation for fighting. During a confrontation involving Lu Kai, he led a group that was prepared to settle matters violently until Liu Shang intervened and challenged him to pursue success through ability, influence, and accomplishment rather than brawling. Liu Shang’s words made a lasting impression on him. 92 93

He gradually became close to Liu Shang through drinking and regular conversations, coming to admire Liu Shang’s maturity, vision, and bearing. From then on, Yuan Hui addressed him as “Eldest Brother.” 116 145

After his family forced him to leave sports school and transfer to a police academy, Yuan Hui argued with them, left home without money, and sought Liu Shang’s help. Liu Shang offered him a choice: return to school or genuinely support himself without relying on his family. Yuan Hui chose the latter and joined Liu Shang’s fledgling company. 145 146

He initially lived at the company under harsh conditions, but quickly adapted, befriended the security guards and accepting practical work without complaint.
