Because Shen Mo had been following Shen Yue, the two of them were locked in the same cage.
Shen Mo looked exhausted. He clutched his sister's sleeve and leaned against the cage, pretending to doze while his Divine Sense quietly entered the space.
He had discovered a more convenient method while cultivating. His body remained outside to absorb demonic energy, while his soul absorbed spiritual energy within the space. This let him cultivate faster and more easily than usual, allowing him to focus on two things at once.
Shen Mo wandered through his space, looking over the land he had cleared. The fields where he had scattered seeds were now full of vegetable seedlings.
He dug up all the seedlings that needed to be planted separately, such as eggplants, peppers, and cucumbers.
He replanted the dug-up seedlings in another field and set up trellises for some of them.
As he passed the little river, Shen Mo spotted a sapling.
He squatted down, propped his head in his hands, and thought for a moment before remembering that he seemed to have buried some peach pits here.
Shen Mo touched its tender branches and leaves. "I never expected you to actually sprout. Since you've grown, you can stay here."
Perhaps it grew so well because it was beside the river, where the water supply was abundant.
And since it had only sprouted in the space recently, its fruit could be passed off as mutant fruit from this world and taken out for his sister to eat.
As Shen Mo walked, he arrived at the springhead. This was the place with the most abundant spiritual energy in the space.
After habitually collecting the Spirit Spring Water, Shen Mo circled the springhead a few times, his expression turning strange. "Why does the springhead feel bigger?"
He stared intently at it and discovered a hint of green at the center of the spring.
Had grass grown there?
But what was that blue light flowing through the leaves?
Shen Mo tried to pluck it, only for his hands to pass straight through it.
"Can't touch it. What is this thing?"
He suddenly remembered that there had originally been a small black dot where the springhead was. He had thought it was a stone, and since he could not pry it out, he had not given it much thought. Unexpectedly, it had been a seed.
"This sprout looks like a little sapling, but its veins are actually blue. It looks rather pretty. Unfortunately, I can't tell what species it is yet. Still, if it can grow here, it probably isn't ordinary."
As for where it came from, Shen Mo had no impression of it. He guessed it had either been left behind by the previous owner or appeared on its own after the space upgraded.
Because of the sapling, Shen Mo inspected the space all over again.
Although he found no other foreign objects, he noticed another surprising change.
The white mist shrouding the space had receded considerably, and the space itself had expanded by quite a bit.
The system just upgraded, and the space changed so much. Could the evolution of this space be connected to the system's upgrades?
Shen Mo stroked his chin and lowered his eyes in thought.
During this period, he had always cultivated at night while sleeping, sending his soul directly inside to cultivate. He had not taken a close look around the space.
As for whether that was truly the reason, he would find out when the system upgraded again.
Having figured that out, Shen Mo stopped dwelling on the matter.
After drinking a few mouthfuls of Spirit Spring Water, Shen Mo felt a warm sensation spread through his body, and his eyes flickered slightly.
It seemed the Spirit Spring had upgraded as well. Its effects were far better than before, healing some of the injuries to his soul. At last, it no longer looked so shattered that it might dissipate at any moment.
Everything seemed to be moving in a better direction. He truly hoped this kind of life could last a little longer.
Shen Mo's gaze softened. He sat cross-legged beside the Spirit Spring to meditate, while his body outside the space silently absorbed the demonic energy in the air.
Outside the space, night quietly fell. It seemed something was approaching, and the surrounding demonic energy grew several times denser.
Shen Mo opened his eyes and looked at the exhausted people in the cages. He took out some bread and water from the space and tossed them over, reminding them, "It's already night. Eat something and recover your strength. There may be danger soon."
Though no one was particularly hungry in such circumstances, they still picked up the bread and water and ate in silence, replenishing their energy.
Shen Mo quietly observed the movements around them.
Yang Xuan finished eating in two or three bites, then tipped back his head and gulped down water. Wiping his mouth, he complained, "When are those people coming? I can't sit still anymore. This is so annoying. I'd rather get into a fight."
The moment he finished speaking, a gust of foul-smelling wind suddenly swept over them.
Everyone looked around alertly and saw pairs of blood-red eyes emerging from the darkness through the windows.
"Bats!" Cui Yang stood up, his body taut as he watched their surroundings warily.
