Background / History

Lingling first meets Su Xi and Xia Luo during an investigation into a suspected gemstone thief. Introducing herself as Qin Luoyu, a magical girl contracted for three months, she explains that she is actually the gemstone's buyer and had visited at night to inspect it. Her reluctance to communicate directly led the seller to mistake her for an intruder. She had worn shoe covers, avoided touching or opening anything, and repaired the lawn after stepping on it. Once the misunderstanding is resolved, she flees in embarrassment in a streak of purple light 134.

While patrolling near a mall, Lingling sensed a suspicious Calamity reaction and followed it into the building. The signal vanished after entering an elevator, leaving her lost in the underground parking garage; too embarrassed to ask the security guard for directions, she contacted Su Xi for help instead 142.

She subsequently helped investigate the reaction, which proved to be a Lesser Calamity concealed in a hotpot restaurant's slop bucket. Although crowds overwhelm her, she accepted an outside role during the evacuation, using her phone to discourage people from returning toward the restaurant's back kitchen 143 144.

Lingling gradually became close with Su Xi, whose direct and unceremonious manner makes her feel more at ease than most people. She also befriended Lin Xi, whom she tutors and spends time with alongside Su Xi 145 148 176.

She lives alone at Emerald Bay, where her routine originally centered on reading, drawing, watching videos, daydreaming, and talking with Little Bell. Her home has private-elevator access and other upscale amenities. After ten days away, Lingling returned to their city with Su Xi and Lin Xi, sleeping on Su Xi's shoulder for much of the two-hour train journey. The group then returned to Emerald Bay 376.

Despite her timid presentation, Lingling can be quietly assertive. She deliberately holds onto Su Xi when she wants her to stay, accompanies her into dangerous situations, and bluntly teases Lin Xi when the opportunity arises 153 212 312.

Her attachment to Su Xi becomes increasingly watchful and possessive. When Mu Zhixue contacts Su Xi late at night, Lingling calls such contact “dangerous,” says she is watching Su Xi to prevent her from slipping away, and promises to get lost with her if necessary 369.

Lingling is particularly self-conscious about displaying her transformed form. She initially refuses Lin Xi's repeated requests and offers her bow as a compromise. When she eventually transforms before her friends, she firmly rejects unwanted touching and cancels the transformation rather than continue enduring the noisy bells and attention 381 400 401 402.

Growing Friendship with Su Xi and Lin Xi

Lingling becomes a regular presence in Su Xi's and Lin Xi's daily lives. She tutors Lin Xi, hosts meals and overnight stays, and begins joining social events despite her discomfort around people 148 175 177.
