The bartender, who had been polishing a wine glass, smiled professionally at his words. After glancing at the bounty poster, he said to the pirate:
"The bounty poster is real. How could a bounty issued by the World Government be fake?" With that, the bartender continued polishing the glass.
At that moment, pirates around the bar drew sharp breaths.
A bounty of 100 million Beli would make him the fourth-largest pirate crew on Wind Island. Yet such a big shot was only sixteen years old. It was unbelievable.
The commotion here drew the attention of all the pirates in the tavern, and they all turned to look over.
Once they learned about Mark from the bounty poster, the entire tavern became restless.
They had not gone out to seek adventure in a long time. They had never expected such a powerful figure to have emerged on the seas.
Only one person paid no attention to the bounty poster. He sat alone at a table by the window, taking occasional swigs of liquor.
He wore a black cloak, and his face seemed to be covered by a layer of black mist. Only a pair of seemingly glowing eyes was visible, making it impossible to see his features.
As he drank, he occasionally glanced at the pirates at the other tables, an indescribable look in his eyes.
This person was Mark!
He had been here for about a day. During that time, he had been gathering useful information.
By now, he had more or less figured out the situation on the entire island. All that remained was to act. The first place he had chosen to strike was Merck Tavern, known as the largest tavern on Wind Island.
There were many pirate forces on Wind Island, numbering dozens of large and small crews.
The largest among them were three pirate crews, and they were also the true rulers of Wind Island.
Viper Pirates: Captain Viper Links, bounty of 140 million. A scheming and ruthless man, like a venomous snake.
Green Lizard Pirates: Captain Giant Lizard Jack, bounty of 160 million. He had a burly build and suffered from lizard scale disease. His skin was as thick as a lizard's, and he possessed tremendous strength.
Collision Pirates: Captain Quilado, bounty of 190 million. His weapon was a battering ram, and he stood nearly five meters tall. He was exceptionally fierce.
This was the information he had obtained.
And it was not limited to Wind Island. He had also acquired intelligence on Snow Island.
Before coming here, he had thought Wind-Snow Twin Islands were two separate islands, but that was not the case.
They were one island, yet like Ice-Fire Island in the original story, the island had been divided into two halves by two different climates.
One half was dry and sandy all year round, while the other was a world of ice and snow.
Wind Island was controlled by the three largest pirate crews, and Snow Island was no exception. It too was controlled by its three largest pirate crews.
Red Star Pirates: Captain Red Star Jialimu, bounty of 110 million. A ruthless woman whose weapon was a rapier.
Evil Spirit Pirates: Captain Evil Spirit Pajedo, bounty of 210 million. He looked as vicious as an evil spirit and was an Animal-type Dog-Dog Fruit, Hyena Model user.
Sword Demon Pirates: Captain Sword Demon Pukesen, bounty of 150 million. A murderous swordsman who had made his name by slaughtering civilians. His actual strength was average; he was a powerful swordsman.
This was all the intelligence Mark had gathered.
Although none of their bounties were low, and aside from Red Star Jialimu, all of them had higher bounties than his, Mark was not afraid of them. He even looked down on them somewhat.
These people were pirates from many years ago. They had entered the Grand Line in their youth and earned some fame, but they had not dared to enter the New World, that true demon sea. Fearing pursuit by Marine Headquarters as well, they had gathered on Wind-Snow Twin Islands.
Later pirates, intimidated by their reputations, did not dare to do anything excessive here. Gradually, the structure of Wind-Snow Twin Islands took shape.
The six great pirate crews grew increasingly powerful as well.
But Mark did not think much of their combat strength.
These people had not fought for many years. Their strength might not even compare to some Supernovas. Mark was completely confident in dealing with them.
They simply had overwhelming numbers, while he was alone. So he could only use the strategy of defeating them one by one and take them down individually.
As for the reason... he needed money, and he also needed experience fodder.
He needed money because these people had occupied this place for many years. According to the intelligence he had collected, their assets amounted to as much as two or three billion Beli. That would be more than enough for Mark to build a new pirate ship.
And experience...
He had always lacked it. On the road to becoming stronger, the faster, the better.
Especially when he had encountered so many excellent prey, there was no reason for him not to make a move.
The tavern was exceptionally noisy.
Mark merely sipped his drink calmly. He was waiting for someone.
Viper Links!
The captain of the Viper Pirates. This tavern belonged to him.
According to the information Mark had obtained, Links returned to the tavern at this time every day to inspect it. He was extremely suspicious by nature. He feared that the pirates in the bar would steal some of his Beli, and he also feared that someone would cause trouble at the tavern.
Mark had just taken a mouthful of strong liquor when he sensed the surrounding noise grow much quieter.
Then he heard the bartender say respectfully, "Lord Links, you're back!"
A sinister voice rang out.
"Mm."
Then he said nothing more.
Mark looked in the direction of the voice and saw a tall, thin man with a pale face, phoenix eyes, and a faint scar running from between his brows to the corner of his lips. The man radiated a sinister aura as he walked behind the bar and spoke with the bartender.
The surrounding pirates all looked at the man with reverence and fear.
Viper Links had arrived.
Mark gently set down his wine glass, then rose to his feet and slowly walked toward the bar.
At this moment, Links was flipping through the recent account books behind the bar. The bartender waited respectfully beside him, while some pirates acted as if they saw nothing and continued drinking on their own.
Mark walked up to the bar and said to Links, who was checking the accounts:
"Captain Viper, hello."
Links, who had been checking the accounts, frowned and slowly raised his head. His expression was somewhat unpleasant.
He did not like being disturbed while checking the books. Everyone on this island knew that.
Having suddenly been interrupted, Links was annoyed.
Seeing the man in the pitch-black cloak before him, he said impatiently:
"What do you want!"
Mark did not care about his attitude at all. With a sincere expression, he said:
"Lend me some money."
"What?" Links suspected that he had misheard. Borrow money from him? Was this man looking to die?
The surrounding pirates all revealed mocking expressions upon hearing this.
Even the professional bartender showed a strange smile.
Borrowing money from pirates? Had this man been hit in the head?
"While you're at it, lend me your head too." Mark smiled faintly, utterly unconcerned.
Whoosh! In an instant, Links leaped back two steps like a cat with its fur standing on end.
A man in a cloak, his face obscured by black mist, asking for money and then demanding his head—he was definitely no simple character.
The cautious Links reacted quickly, but Mark gave him no chance!
"Dark Water!"
