"I'm willing!"
Bai Mo answered almost without hesitation.
Was this a joke? It was like someone handing him a pillow just as he was dozing off. Sanctuary Academy itself—or rather, the world beyond the present age that it represented—was an excellent opportunity for him at this moment.
After living through that ordinary yet helpless life of despair in his nightmare, Bai Mo understood even more deeply how important it was to seize that sliver of hope.
He did not want to, and absolutely could not, miss any chance to change his fate.
"Very good." Natsuki Minamiya seemed quite satisfied with his decisiveness and nodded. "Once Ling Luochan and the others return, you'll come back to the academy with us."
After receiving that affirmative answer, Bai Mo felt somewhat reassured. But soon, he thought of someone even more important.
He stepped forward, looked sincerely at Natsuki Minamiya, and made his request. "Teacher Nayue, can you help my sister awaken her martial soul? Can she join the academy?"
However, Natsuki Minamiya did not answer immediately. With an inquisitive gaze, she looked past Bai Mo and fixed her eyes on the silver-haired girl who had been holding the little beast and hiding off to the side.
After a while, she said softly, "This sister of yours... do you really know her?"
Those words were like a basin of cold water poured over Bai Mo's head. His expression instantly turned ugly, and he could not help turning toward Na'er as he argued forcefully, "Of course I know Na'er. She's my sister."
But as soon as he finished speaking, the sister he had sworn to protect with his life gently lowered her head. Her silver hair fell forward, concealing her expression.
An apology as faint as a mosquito's buzz came from beneath her hair:
"I'm sorry, Brother."
That apology made Bai Mo's heart sink to the bottom, but Natsuki Minamiya seemed to have expected this all along.
The lace parasol in her hand slowly turned. Her sharp gaze saw through Na'er's body before shifting toward a patch of seemingly empty space.
"You've watched for so long. Are you still not coming out?"
The air in the room seemed to freeze in an instant.
A low, ancient voice suddenly sounded beside everyone's ears. It was not loud, yet the majesty it carried was enough to make time and space tremble.
"As expected of the Gap Witch who commands space. You... are you really human?"
The moment those words fell, the space behind Na'er began to twist violently, visibly to the naked eye.
The light, air, and even the dust there seemed to be seized by an invisible giant hand and forcibly kneaded into a ball.
The once-clear walls of the wooden cabin blurred, rippling strangely like reflections on water.
Then, at the center of the distorted space, a pitch-black crack was silently torn open.
A hand—a hand with distinct knuckles, pale skin, and immense strength—emerged first from the crack and pressed against its edge.
Next, a tall and upright figure slowly stepped out.
He stood nearly two meters tall, broad and powerfully built without appearing bloated. Simply standing there, he seemed like the center of heaven and earth, making the rundown little cabin appear tiny.
His jet-black hair nearly reached his waist, with a conspicuous lock of golden hair running through it. It looked as though it had been cast from divine gold, displaying his extraordinary nobility.
His features were resolute and handsome, every line seeming to have been meticulously carved by a god. Yet he carried an aloof coldness and majesty that made him seem detached from the world.
He wore a well-tailored black robe. The fabric was heavy and luxurious, woven from some unknown material, and faintly flowed with dim light beneath the gloomy lamp.
The collar, cuffs, and hem of his robe were embroidered with exceedingly intricate dragon patterns in golden thread, exuding nobility and dominance beneath their understated design.
Yet what could not be ignored most was his gaze.
Those were a pair of pure golden eyes, utterly without impurity, sharp and profound, as though they contained the birth and death of stars.
When his gaze swept across the room, everyone within—including prodigies such as Nan Qiuqiu and Xiao Hongchen—felt a tremor rising from the depths of their souls.
This was not pressure from soul power, but an absolute suppression of a higher order, originating from the level of life itself.
It was as if they were not facing a man, but a forest, an ocean—the incarnation of this planet's very will.
He was Di Tian, the Beast God who ruled the world.
Facing the figure who had emerged from the spatial crack, Natsuki Minamiya still maintained her usual composure and elegance.
Her lace folding fan snapped shut with a crisp sound. Her deep blue eyes met Di Tian's golden dragon eyes, and there was even a hint of understanding in her voice.
"So it's you, Black Dragon. That makes sense. On this planet, there truly aren't many who can play with spatial abilities before me."
After saying that, her gaze no longer rested on Di Tian. Instead, it returned to the trembling silver-haired girl, the meaning behind her words self-evident. "So this girl is one of yours."
When Di Tian appeared, and when Bai Mo heard Natsuki Minamiya say the words "Black Dragon," the last trace of wishful hope in his heart completely vanished.
He understood everything.
His little sister Na'er was not some ordinary girl with the same name and appearance. She was the Silver Dragon King, Gu Yuena.
Though he had long suspected it, when the naked truth was placed before him, a powerful sense of unreality still seized him.
What had he done to deserve this? He possessed neither the divine core of the Golden Dragon King nor anything that could attract the ruler of the Soul Beasts.
Had this past year of relying on each other been a carefully orchestrated play, or merely a capricious coincidence of fate?
"I'm sorry... Brother."
Na'er's voice carried a sob. As she lowered her head, her silver hair slipped down, concealing the guilt and panic covering her face.
She did not dare look into Bai Mo's eyes.
She had never expected her identity to be exposed so completely.
Natsuki Minamiya's strength had far exceeded her expectations. With a single glance, she had seen Di Tian hidden within the folds of space.
More importantly, she herself had only just awakened most of her memories. Her heart was in chaos, and she had not prepared herself to face all of this.
Bai Mo fell silent.
The air in the room seemed to have solidified. The terrifying pressure Di Tian emitted from the pinnacle of life pressed down upon everyone's hearts like an invisible mountain.
Xiao Hongchen, Meng Hongchen, and the others had all turned pale. Even moving a finger was exceedingly difficult, so they could only grit their teeth and endure.
Yet amid that suffocating silence, Bai Mo slowly began to move.
