"The Black Great Wall?"
"What's that?"
Di Reina looked baffled. So did Anna beside her.
Du Kao gave them an I thought so look, then glanced at Lian Feng.
Lian Feng understood and explained:
"The Black Great Wall is an enormous, man-made organization dedicated to creating gods."
"Creating gods? How is that possible?"
Di Reina didn't know much, but she knew Earth was still in the Pre-Nuclear Era. How could it create gods?
Even if Earth poured all its resources into the project, how many gods could it produce?
Lian Feng offered no further explanation. She picked up a remote from the conference table and pressed a button.
Images appeared on the projection screen: a black flying ship, blue-and-white armor, and life-forms whose hostility seemed to radiate through the screen. They clearly weren't from Earth.
"These images of the Taotie Civilization, from the Nether River Star System, were captured by Earth's satellites.
The Taotie Civilization is a brutal civilization built for war, with no moral limits. Earth Star is in grave danger now that they've set their sights on it.
That's why we must launch the god-creation project early, to meet the coming threat," Lian Feng said.
She switched to several more images, each showing a young person carrying a Super Gene.
"Some of these are Super Gene warriors from our former Deno Star System. Others are seeds of hope given to us by a god of the God River Civilization, so we can face unknown threats," Du Kao said.
"Galaxy Power, Nuoxing War God, Light of the Sun? Hey, that last one's me!" Di Reina said.
"That god is a great sage. We call him the Space Principal. He is all-powerful and everywhere at once.
Reina, the Space Principal brought your Light of the Sun gene from the God River Civilization and entrusted it to the Lieyang Civilization," Du Kao said.
"Pan Zhen never told me any of that," Di Reina said.
"You're still young. General Pan Zhen likely kept it from you so you wouldn't have to worry, and could simply enjoy being a princess," Du Kao said.
"Hmph. Pan Zhen always treats me like a child!" Di Reina pouted.
"General Du, what does any of this have to do with Reina?" Anna asked, her expression serious as she looked him straight in the eye.
Du Kao stiffened slightly. Something about Anna's bearing really did remind him of Wang Shu!
Wang Shu was young, yet he gave Du Kao an overwhelming sense of pressure.
That was why Du Kao didn't dare treat him like a child—or try any tricks on him.
"These young people are still inexperienced. They don't know the truth about the world. They've grown up in peace and have little experience fighting extraterrestrial life.
Reina, on the other hand, received an advanced theological education from childhood. She's knowledgeable, powerful, and kindhearted.
I'd like her to lead these future Super Warriors. To guide them and help them."
Du Kao looked utterly sincere, slipping in praise for Reina so subtly it was almost impossible to notice.
His words struck a chord with Reina. Put that way, she realized she had quite a few good qualities!
It felt wonderful to be recognized!
Without giving it much thought, Reina waved a hand and declared generously:
"Ahem. Helping each other is only right, isn't it? As the Lieyang Civilization Future Queen, it's my duty to help weaker civilizations.
General Du, you can count on me. I'll be their captain."
Anna had been about to advise caution, but Di Reina had agreed so quickly, so rashly, without a moment's thought!
A few words were all it took to win her over!
Du Kao and Lian Feng exchanged glances. Their plan had worked. The corners of their mouths twitched into faint smiles.
Still, they had no ill intentions. Earth's future gods truly did need someone to guide them!
And Reina was an excellent choice!
She was young, warmhearted, beautiful, and powerful. Taken together, those qualities made her the obvious choice.
"I disagree!"
A cold voice sounded out of nowhere. Space rippled, and Wang Shu appeared, his face stern.
"Wang Shu! Where did you come from?"
Di Reina looked surprised, though his stern expression made her a little afraid.
Du Kao's heart sank. Lian Feng, meanwhile, felt an inexplicable flicker of delight at Wang Shu's arrival.
"If I hadn't come, you'd be counting the money for the people who sold you," Wang Shu said coldly.
"Wang Shu, no one's selling anyone. This is a sincere invitation, a testament to the friendship between our civilizations. There's no coercion," Du Kao explained.
"Exactly. What's wrong with me helping Earth on humanitarian grounds? Earth's a great place, too. I can't just stand by while the Taotie destroy it," Di Reina said. She didn't think it was a big deal.
"Forget it. Explaining this to you is a pain. I'm taking you back to Lieyang Star right now. You're not coming out again." Wang Shu grabbed Di Reina by the arm and started pulling her away.
Di Reina had no intention of accepting that. Her temper flared, and she snapped:
"What's your problem, Wang Shu? Is it wrong for me to want to help Earth? And I'm not going back!"
"Reina, listen to Wang Shu," Anna said.
She was worried, too. She had a feeling there was more going on with Earth than appeared on the surface.
"No. I'm the Empress of the Lieyang Clan. No one gets to decide what I think," Di Reina said firmly, determination in her eyes.
Wang Shu looked at Reina. Knowing he couldn't talk her out of it, he said:
"If that's what you want, then fine!"
Reina's expression eased. She no longer looked ready to fight him over it.
"I destroyed the Great Wormhole Bridge near Pluto. The Taotie shouldn't be able to invade for a while. Use that time to make them stronger." Wang Shu turned to Du Kao, his face expressionless.
Du Kao straightened and gave a crisp military salute. "Thank you!"
Wang Shu had no desire to stay in the same room as that scheming old bastard. He turned to Di Reina and Anna and asked:
"Are you coming, or do you plan to stay here all day?"
"Coming," Di Reina said at once.
Nether River Star System.
"Great My God Karl, the Angel Civilization has gone too far! They unleashed a Great Judgment at the Great Wormhole Bridge. Most of the Taotie Flying Ships were destroyed, and I was badly wounded."
Shi Hao stood in the center of Death Song Academy's great hall, half his exoskeleton armor melted away. His face twisted with anger.
"Oh? The Great Wormhole Bridge was destroyed?" Carl remained calm, without a trace of concern. "Then build another one."
"..." Shi Hao fell silent.
"My God Karl, this body of mine was badly damaged. Please grant me your blessing," Shi Hao said reverently.
"Sno, take him away and rebuild him," Carl said mildly. He had remained calm throughout.
"As you command."
Dressed in black robes, Sno walked forward and led Shi Hao out of the hall.
Carl set down his snow-white Goose Feather Pen and rose from his dark desk. With his hands behind his back, he gazed up at the vaulted ceiling and murmured:
"Liang Bing should be on Earth Star by now."
