Background / History

Meng Hongchen is the cherished granddaughter of Jing Hongchen and the “jewel” of the Red Dust Family. Her grandfather arranges her marriage to Xia Yu amid instability in the Sun Moon Empire, intending to secure both her protection and the Red Dust Family’s political position through Xia Yu and Kong Deming’s influence. Although she initially resists because she barely knows Xia Yu and has feelings for someone else, she ultimately accepts the marriage out of responsibility toward her family. 2

On their wedding night, Meng Hongchen asks Xia Yu why he chose her. His answer—that she was the most suitable candidate—relieves her uncertainty, and she resolves to become a qualified wife.
